That’s right! All of our awesome adoptable pets are only $15 now through January 31, 2025!

This time of year is the slowest for adoptions but yet one of the highest for intakes 💔

So let’s change that and clear our shelter!

Come say hi on Saturday AND Sunday from 10am to 12:30 at Petco in Martel 🐶

Our volunteers will be bringing some of our adoptable dogs. It’s a great way to meet then outside the shelter ❤️

Stephanie & Josie's Story
"Bringing a fur baby into your life, of course brings happiness, but improves mental and physical health. Being a disabled combat woman veteran, wife and just an adult, all of those “jobs” bring a whole world of stress, fear, mental and physical battles. Josie Wales was brought into my life through the “Rescue a Hero” program through VFW Post 12215 with exceptional training by Tim Guzman at Blue Collar K9 Training/ A Hero’s Best Friend. With Josie’s training, I am able to be physically active within my disabilities without struggling with commands. She instinctively knows when I have an anxiety attack and provides me comfort or forces me to be social, as she wants to meet everyone she sees. I feel confident when I take her to the office or fire camp, that she will be respectful and patient through meetings or presentations, she knows that she is “working”. Josie can light up a room with her happy smile and tail wag. She insists on greeting everyone at the office first thing in the morning, she is usually received with “Oh I needed some emotional support” or “you’re the best thing to happen to me this morning”. Not only did Tim and Bill save a wonderful dog, but they also gave her the tools to bring happiness, love and fur to everyone she meets. I am truly blessed and saved by her gentle soul."

Have you ever considered becoming an animal shelter volunteer dog walker. It is incredibly rewarding and the staff is absolutely incredible! If you would like more info on volunteering there, give them a call!!

Our volunteers participated in a class hosted by Blue Collar K9 Dog Training Northern California.

Tim Guzman is the owner and trainer of Blue Collar K9. Tim is a huge help with not just our volunteers, but with our dogs at the shelter as well.

Yesterday, Tim helped our volunteers learn about proper dog walking, how to continue basic skills such as sit and wait, leashing up the wiggly ones and had a Q and A for any other challenges our volunteers needed support for.

Walking dogs at the shelter is a huge benefit for our population. It gets them outside, fresh air, burn off some energy and best of all, it’s time with people. It’s also an opportunity for them to learn! 🐕

Thank you so much Tim for all that you do for the doggie community.

Does your dog pull, jump on you, bark at you, not listen to you, or have bad manners? We can absolutely help!!! This pup was guilty of all of these and after 15 minutes she was walking like a champ and listening to her mom and dad. No pinch collar, no e collar and no treats to bribe. Just lots of understanding and teaching. Call us for information, questions, or a free phone consultation!

Wow what a day for Brownie. She went outside and played!!!!! Yes Brownie played and had fun. Cleo another dog in our rescue has been playing with her the last 2 days inside. Well today they went out and Brownie had a blast. Probably 30 plus minutes. So she can do it. Now we just need to find her forever home with someone that will help her succeed.

Today was a great day for Brownie. She is slowly coming out of her shell. We are hopeful she will take a few steps outside tomorrow without freaking out. We want to thank everyone that has reached out to us about Brownie and have bought stuff for her. The support actually made me tear up. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And there is no sound on this video sorry.

Brownie is doing good!!! She has real good days and then some so so days. Going outside still scares her so much though but with time and patience it will get better. Brownie came to stay with us at Blue Collar K9 on 8/15/24. She is very afraid of being outside and we are working hard to help her with this. We are not sure of her history, but she came to shelter with 8 week old puppies and her puppies have all been adopted. She was having a tough time at the shelter with all of the noises, sights and smells so she is taking a vacation and staying with us. Currently, she is most comfortable in her kennel and is gaining confidence every day inside of her kennel. Slowly, she is learning to come out a little bit at a time. We want to continue to share her progress here in hopes that her perfect person or family will see her and be ready to help when the time comes. She will need a home with someone who will give her plenty of patience to come out of her shell, because inside that shell is a very sweet girl. She enjoys other dogs and she likes kids. Please reach out to us if you would like to meet brownie or are interested in adopting her.

No pinch collar, no E collar, no treats. 30 minutes and this dog is walking like a champ for his owner!!! It’s all about respect, consistency and fairness.
