Before Caesar Millan, there was our father, David G. Young, Sr. Our dad loved animals with all of his heart and taught us how rewarding a relationship with an animal could be, including the true value they bring to a family. Our dad served in the US Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Boatswains Mate. He was our hero, and our inspiration behind starting Sweet Pea Kennels. Growing up, we heard all k

inds of stories about our dad that showed his true passion and love for animals. While serving in the US Navy, he once kept a pet seal and dog on the same boat. The dog and seal became so close that they could never keep them separated. Dad would set the seal free every morning to go hunt and eat, then raised it back onto the boat in a stokes stretcher when it would bark to be let aboard. Pretty sure it doesn’t get much cuter than that! At parties, if the hosts had a dog, dad basically ignored everyone and spent the entire evening with the dog. Our mom often tells us the story about how our dad taught his dog how to ride a tricycle. The neighborhood kids used to come to the door all the time and ask our mom “Can Dave come out and play?” Dad would line up the kids in a circle, and his dog would ride the tricycle around the circle licking each kid on the face. Can you imagine that? What a show! Even meal time was a special event for “Dave Young dogs” (as the family saying goes), as he would prepare their dinner every night. Dog food, table scraps, some leftover fat from the fridge, ketchup or barbecue sauce for flavor, and an egg on top to ensure a shiny coat. And don’t forget the warm water, because who wants their dinner cold? One evening, watching our dad prepare the dog’s supper, our cousin said “When I die, I want to come back as a Dave Young dog.” Just watching our dad love, train, spoil, and care for dogs made it obvious that they were loved deeply, and their lives were easy and rewarding. In the mind of a young boy, being reincarnated as a Dave Young dog was probably a better option than going to heaven. This phrase soon became a family mantra that was repeated over the years whenever someone would watch my dad with dogs. Sometimes we thought he got along with dogs better than people. After many years of corporate America and jet-setting around the world, the two of us brothers have decided to settle back down near our hometown and start our own kennel business. We both manage the day-to-day operations of the kennel, with David (“Dave”) G. Young, Jr. being the Chief P**per Scooper and Steve Young being Chief Puppy Cuddler! At Sweet Pea Kennels, we breed dogs in order to place purebred puppies into the homes of loving families, and we truly enjoy what we’re doing every day. Sweet Pea Kennels is on our families land and the puppies are surrounded by constant love and affection from everyone – and it doesn’t get much better than that. We are excited as a family for this next chapter in our lives, and to be able to do all of this in our loving father’s memory.

Kennel Assistant
This position requires a strong love of pets and attention to detail.

The majority of time is spent keeping rooms and pet runs clean and sanitized; exercising, feeding and picking up after the pets; ensure needs of the boarding guests are being met and reporting on the pet's condition to management staff.

This position requires a Flexible Schedule and AVAILABILITY ON WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.

Must possess a good work ethic and work well with others. A genuine interest in pet care is a must.

Our Kennel Attendants not only provide excellent care to our guests, they are also the reason our facilities sparkle and smell awesome.

If you are uncomfortable scooping p**p and cleaning up after pets - this job is not for you.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.

The following shifts are available:
Various shifts depending on business needs.

DUTIES:
• Ensure food bins are stocked
• Provide water bowls and meals to animal guest three times daily, or as directed
• Provide meds to animal guests; mark and initial med book and door cards accordingly
• Clean and sanitize the work area immediately following feedings, including dishwashing and sanitizing counters, carts and applicable work areas
• Provide exercise to animal guests
• Clean and sanitize pet kennel areas, including removing pet waste, laundry, changing mop heads and buckets, vacuuming and emptying the central vac
• Clean outside runs, including grassy
• Obtain customer feedback information including special pet handling requirements
• Ensures pet's medical records are current, updated and noted on applicable door card
• Partner with facility manager to meet and exceed the customer's service expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A keen instinct for animal safety, proper procedure and loving commitment for the pets.
• Ability to regularly stand for extended periods.
• Able to walk dogs of all sizes on a leash, ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Bend, stretch and work in and around pet hair and dander.
-Reliable and punctual
- Must have reliable form of transportation

Get the training you need at Sweet Pea Kennels!

Puppies and rescues are unfortunately are returned frequently, which causes undue stress and heartbreak on the part of the dog. What better way to prevent that than with some quality training with your fur baby.

At Sweet Pea Kennels we offer group classes and private training to help ensure that new pup of yours will be an effective and happy member of your family for years to come. Training can help your new puppy mature faster or it can help your an older dog build a strong bond with you and your family.

Group classes go over the essentials;
Sit
Stay
Come
Heel
Down
And leash training.

Group Classes are typically designed for puppies above the age of 16 weeks old, or for dogs that have never received any type of training before.

Private Classes are also available and are customized to you and your pups needs. Private classes are also great for dogs who might not get along with other dogs or people.

Training Classes now Starting
Training Classes now Starting

Sweet Pea Kennels is proud to Announce we are now Starting weekly Training Classes. We are now offering training classes for Puppies, Adult dogs, Dogs with behavioral issues, or if you want to train your dog in personal protection, search and rescue, or odor work. Group Training classes are on Tuesday 6PM and Saturday 9AM. Each Class will Have 6 Seats. Classes will be once a week for 6 weeks – $129.00 Private classes are 1 on 1 session - $50.00 a session Board and trains – $62.00 a day (days that training is conducted) Decoy work – $15.00 an hour. (including travel time) Personal Protection training – Prices vary depending on skill of canine.
