Did you know a Box turtle only roams 1 mile its whole life? If it is removed from its area/home then for the rest of its life it will roam aimlessly stressed out... trying to find "home" until it dies a very sad death.

Please do not remove turtles. Do not take them home as pets. If one is injured please mark the exact spot found for the wildlife center. If a turtle is in the road you can help by moving it directly across the street in the direction it was heading. Thank you!

I post this every few months because it's not really known. Many people think it is harmless to let their children take home a docile turtle to play with and release it someplace they see appropriate. I was once that kid. Please share the knowledge.

A warning about water that doesn't run and especially those farm ponds.

If you have animals who can drink out of a pond where there would be fertilizer run off, and the weather gets hot and dry, then blue green algae bloom could cause serious problems for you.

Blue green algae can thrive in a pond and not even necessarily be seen. When animals drink contaminated water it can cause muscle tremors, severe respiratory distress, liver failure, diarrhea and other severe issues that often lead to death.

Now is the time of year where this algae bloom most often occurs.

This warning includes dogs, horses, cows, and many other creatures.

AUGUST 20th - $25 MALE CAT NEUTER DAY! No income or residency restrictions - open to everyone. Call 740-353-5100 between 10 and 4 (except Sundays) to get scheduled.

1. Kittens must weigh at least 2 pounds
2. Each cat must be in it's own carrier
3. Nothing to eat after midnight (water okay)
4. Rabies vaccine optional - $5
5. CASH OR CHECK ONLY and the exact amount is helpful and speeds up the process!

We always get asked "when are you going to do this for females" and unfortunately we cannot offer this service for female cats/dogs or male dog neuters. Thank you!

Sign up for the RASCAL spay/neuter clinic scheduled for August 1, 2023 will start tomorrow at 10 a.m. and will continue until the clinic is full.

*Prices are listed on the flyer and appointments are first come first serve.

*You must visit the shelter IN PERSON at 2308 Lick Run Road to schedule and pay. Payment is due the day you make the appointment, and we accept cash and debit/credit card. We do not accept checks.

*We are open Monday - Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Please make sure to bring your dogs on a regular leash (leave your retractable leashes at home, please) and each cat must be in its own carrier. Feral cats MUST BE IN A TRAP.

APPOINTMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. If you do not show up for your appointment the day of surgery, you will not be issued a refund and we will be unable to reschedule your surgery.
