Hunters! Many of you will travel out of state for a great whitetail hunt this season. Many of these states are CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) states. Meaning you can only bring deboned meat, antlers with clean skull plate and the cape. Here is a quick tutorial on how to get the job done so you can safely return with your trophy. The head used was brought in for a European mount that's why there is no cape attached. As far as the cape goes you'll want to leave 4" or more of skin from behind the front shoulder and 6" of foreleg skin. Remember, you can never bring in too much cape if in doubt! Please check State regulations on designated CWD states. If you have any trophy care questions post them here and we'll get them answered. Once the skin is off the animal keep it dry and cool if it can't be frozen. Let the skin breath when possible.
