Lockhart Cattle Company is a fifth generation, family owned and operated, cow outfit in Jackson, Wyoming. This ranch focuses on producing local, high-quality, grass-fed beef. All Lockhart beef is raised naturally and humanely with no antibiotics or added hormones. The headquarters of the ranch boarders the town of Jackson’s southern edge but the ranch is comprised of five large tracts of land loca

ted throughout the valley. Sustainability and conservation are a top priority for Lockhart Cattle Company. In fact, the Lockharts were named a 2015 landowner of the year by Wyoming Game and Fish for their effort to improve wildlife habitat on their ranch land. Lockhart beef is unique in that cows are born, raised, and butchered in Teton County. This ranch leads the way in sustainable ranching practices by focusing on the health of the ranch land including clean water, clean air, wildlife habitat, and open space. beef in several markets throughout the valley including Aspens Market, Pearl St. Market, and Liquor Down South. You can also purchase whole and half animals to fill your freezer. Taking cattle over Teton Pass 1950s. Of all the old photos I have come across this one has to be my favorite. In this photo they are driving yearling cattle over the pass to put them on the train in Victor ID. In these years the train was the only way to get the valleys cattle to market. When I see photos like this I can’t help but think that the days must have been longer back then and the men resolute.

We a right in the middle of winter operations here on the ranch. I often get asked if things slow down on the ranch in the winter. And the answer is no, some could say it gets busier. The cows need tended to every day this time of year. Cattle don’t know if it’s a holiday or a weekend and they need taken care of just the same day in and day out. Along with daily feeding we keep multiple water sources flowing, we ensure herd health, manage equipment breakdowns, move snow, fix fence, and keep the meat business moving foreword. We all find our own way of getting through these cold dark days with a smile on our face. For me it’s a time focus on what I can control, and to have as much of a positive affect on those things as I can.

We bought a Cow! Sadie is so excited to be getting some meat with feet once again, she and Bodie are meat eaters. Say hello to a new vendor of ours, Lockhart Cattle Co. they are a six generation, family owned and operated cattle operation who focus on the health of their land, clean water, clean air and open space. They look to be doing all the right things and we want to get their beef to southeast! We will update you soon with our delivery date - some cuts we are expecting : ribeye, roast, new york, fillet mignon, burger, tip roast, coulotte, brisket, short ribs and many more!

Hereford cattle paved the west - it’s hard to find a historical ranch that was not filled with red and white cattle at one point. We are always grateful for our healthy herd of bald faces.

Family is the foundation of our ranch and it is the glue that binds us together. The greatest challenges often reap the greatest rewards; coming together as a family to keep this ranch operating and part of the community is what gives us the greatest fulfillment.

We are happy to report that calving is going smoothly. The babies are thriving and the cowboys are looking forward to a week of good weather. The calves are usually tucked up tight and close to their mothers, so it’s a treat to see them playing around together like this. They all banded together for a romp around the snow while their mothers were feeding on the hay we had laid out.

A few days ago we moved the mother cows on to the calving grounds. Just like a farmer planting a crop; the first calf will mark the beginning of our season. It will be the beginning of long nights calving, unpredictable days getting the cows to summer pasture, and countless hours in the hay field. All to bring the herd home for the winter so we can start our season again next spring. There are so many things in this life that you just can’t count on. But on this place one thing is for sure, the calves are on the way.
