The farm is turning into a snowy winter wonderland. The snow is accumulating quite fast. We will update everyone in a bit if we will be open or not today for lessons as even though snow is pretty it's not overly safe to ride in. It builds up in their feet as they ride which turns their feet into high heels and can cause them to fall. Remember safety is our number one priority at all times! Stay tuned for updates. We will reach out once we can figure out how much we're getting and if we can get it cleared and this the ground soft enough.

I know many were excited for Lady to join the lesson program BUT that has been all put on hold for good reason for a long time!
Killpen rescue Standardbred Hoosier Jackie aka Lady is PREGNANT 🎉🎉 rough estimate for due date is about April. Not only did we save one life... We saved 2! We started noticing quickly that Lady's figure started changing and so did her personality and we were all under suspicion that she was carrying a special package. And today that was confirmed! Ultrasound picture is of the baby's eyeball, the little one is doing great and on track with everything so far. Due to her being a rescue, we unfortunately do not know who Daddy is but regardless this baby will be so loved! This will be the first baby born at our facility (we've had previous born but at other farms), we are so excited to have a little team misfit bundle of joy running around soon enough! This is an exciting and beautiful journey and we are so thrilled.
PLEASE note this baby will NOT be available for adoption. He/she will stay with us permanently. And also please DO NOT enter lady's area, she is very guarded and not cuddly right now. Once the baby is born and everything is okay and the baby is old enough for visitation then we will start allowing people to meet and greet, but please note babies are not toys. Everything we do will be done carefully and correctly to ensure that this baby grows up loved, educated and good-natured.
For right now we've got lots to prepare for and lots of planning to do so stay tuned ❤️

While we wait for our ring to thaw from these freezing temps we put together a list of amazing items for winter riding (especially good ideas for gifts for your riders of all ages). Winter is hard as we get cold but there are wonderful items to keep you toasty while you ride! * Remember some temps no matter how warm your dressed won't be safe to ride in so always stay tuned to our update messages when we are in freezing temps times. Safety is #1 priority for horses and riders!
Here is a list of essential items to help you through the winter riding months!!
: comfort plus winter helmet cover
: winter riding gloves ( you MUST be able to make a fist in them so keep that in mind when buying the right pair)
: heated winter gloves are great too
: thermal socks
: thermal underwear for under your riding clothes
: winter riding pants (they are SO warm)
: winter jacket (make sure to not get one with a super puffy hood as they are difficult with helmets)
: heated jackets or vests are great options too!
: winter riding boots
: snow boots are ok for riding too as long as you have enough movement to put your heels down!
: winter bibs or snow pants are good too! I ride in mine all the time (example below)
: face covers that fit under your helmet are good too BUT whatever you have under your helmet MUST fit properly and not fall down or ride up as it can interfere with vision which could cause an accident

Things NOT recommended!!
- hot hands in your gloves as they interfere with your ability to move your hands properly with riding.
- hats with any sort of pom poms, bows etc. Hats under a helmet must fit properly and have nothing on top to interfere with the helmet sitting flush to your head. A popped up helmet is a dangerous helmet that provides no protection!
- absolutely NOO UGGs! They do not have a significant heal and have no traction underneath to prevent slippage of stirrup. I've seen accidents involving uggs.
- remember if you layer don't over layer. You must be able to move your arms and legs!

Last of our Tuesday night schooling at the indoor at the horse park until mid January. It was such a blast with everybody! Huge group tonight, lots of smiles and fun! The weather was absolutely perfect for it too! We will be back for more fun once they open back up after the few weeks of being closed for the holidays. Stay tuned for when we have sign ups for it (only available currently for our boarders, leasers and advanced students 12+). Remember these aren't lesson times, its just a time to enjoy riding in a large indoor so your horse can stretch it's legs.

Another day another show with some of the team misfits crew! Today we were at baymar! Competition was rough, some classes (like the one clover was in) had 14 riders. Our horses and riders did great amongst the hard competition. We have our homework that we have to work on but that's what schooling shows are for. We use them as practice to work on our skills, bring out the greener horses and see where we're at and then come spring we bring our top game!! Great job ladies! Super proud of all of you ❤️❤️

We are offering Christmas Eve and new years eve lesson/pony ride specials!
Lessons for these holidays specials are just $20 an hour per rider!!! Pony rides available for $10 a half hour per rider!!! Below are the times we will have available on these dates. Perfect night at the horse Park Tuesday night schooling in the indoor! Team misfits having a blast together working on stuff for the winter show season! These open night schooling are the greatest way to get used to riding in a big open indoor with people during the winter when the ground isn't so nice. We've been going for years and it's always a blast!

Winter English show series start next weekend! For those interested in showing here is what you need to have in order to show!
- black helmet ( or black helmet cover)
- tan show pants
- adults need black tall boots
- kids 10 And under need black paddock boots and jod straps.
- black or blue or green or gray show jacket
- white collared show shirt
- kids 10 and under bows for their hair
- teens- adult need hair net.
- black gloves
- need a white show pad like pictured below ( I have available only for our school horses)

Pictures below are the examples of what is needed to complete the look. You are responsible for providing your own attire on top of your show fees. We will have show lists coming soon. Remember to ask if you're ready to show! We will determine which show series and class division is right for you!

Today was a prime example of why we wear helmets and to always expect the unexpected! We choose to do one of the most dangerous sports there is, we ride 1,000+lb animals that have minds of their own. Absolutely Anything can happen in a split second. Today's example is from the cowboy barrels (using cones) demonstration where me and Celeste were going beautifully until we weren't. In a split second she fell and landed on my leg, smashed my left side hard into the ground. This was a total FREAK accident. But in life with horses stuff happens. Does it suck falling off, hitting the ground, breaking bones?? Yes BUT we dust our butts off, get back on and continue. Why? Because we love horse's and we love this sport. EVERYONE eventually falls, it's not a if it's a when. At the end of the day you pat your horse, give them treats, go rest and go again the next day! Today was a good lesson learned that every one does fall, and how to handle the situation! * yes I'm going to get looked at* Thank you Sheila for getting it on video!

Every rider needs to at least once in their life to go gallop on the beach horseback! It's the most freeing you will ever feel! Enjoy the montage of clips from today's beach ride. Facebook wouldn't allow me to post them all together individually so I had to make a montage. And yes I'm FINALLY on tiktok. Our tiktok account will only be for our rescue horses journeys, standardbred journeys and off property adventures / shows. Feel free to follow!

Ok yall don't mind my absolutely horrible drawing , but you will get the idea of what i'm talking about with it. We have a lot going on starting in march! Starting off with the field getting excavated, Following up with construction of some new tack sheds, along with the big wooden run in refix. A lot of volunteer opportunity time, will be starting up along with other opportunities for our regular students. Stay tuned for more information on when everything starts! This is a big year for change and a bigger opportunity for growth ❤️ we have so much planned for 2024!

Night farm check done. Horses aren't minding the storm at all. They could care less. Only caring about their hay. Yall asking about lessons tomorrow, it's not top Priority right now. We got A LOT of water! This storm isn't anywhere done yet so who knows what damages will come over night. Our top priority is making sure we get through this storm Without significant damages. We will update everyone in the morning about lessons but know most likely they will not be happening tomorrow due to the insane amount of rain alone. But stay tuned!
