Many of you saw the many posts about Quackers, our Magpie house duck hen. We also shared that she passed away unexpectedly on April 29th this year. We were privileged to have almost 9 months with our little angel.

On July 29th, a miracle happened. One of the nests that had been abandoned about a week prior by another hen, had a little one hatch out on their own. We'd thought the nest was no good and had planned to clear it out that weekend. We'd had some rain and the weather was nice and warm. We're fairly certain this helped that last week of incubation and our surprise baby to hatch.

We saw her running after any hen she could find but they all rejected her. She was crying and we brought her inside. We didn't have any other ducklings or chicks inside, so we took care of her. It was not ideal since we hope for all babies to be raised by their own mamas or at least their species. In this instance though, since that wasn't possible, we talked it over and decided that we would be taking on a new, permanent little house duck once again. We weren't sure if our hearts could handle it after losing Quackers. However, we believe that this little one was a gift from Quackers in a way.

We've named our little one Harley. Since her first day of life ended up with her riding on a Harley, safely tucked into my shirt. (Long story. Lol.) She has been growing like a tumbleweed and mending our hearts in her own way. We still miss Quackers so much. Harley has just helped us to reopen our once shattered hearts.

We wanted to share some pictures and videos of our sassy and spunky little Harley. She does go with me to work sometimes and helped us with fostering two little ones that had been abandoned by a first time mother. She's not overly fond of other ducks, but she'll tolerate them as long as they don't touch her. πŸ˜‚ She has already started trying to share our showers but thankfully has not started jumping in with us. We had amazing neighbors that gave away a free bassinet and pet gate for us to use for her inside the house. We should hopefully have her new duck diapers within the next 10 days so we can let her move more freely inside. Harley does go outside a little but just for short periods as long as I'm near her and within her eyesight. Can't wait to share more of our little Harley as she continues to grow and blossom. ❀️

We need your help!!!

This is the black and white version of the brand logo we've drawn and hope to use for our Farmyard. We are great with our animals, farming, planting, growing, etc., but not so much when it comes to graphic art. Due to this, we're reaching out to our followers and Non-Follower audiences to see if any of you may be able to help.

This is the black and white version, so it's a black canvas in essence. Please feel free to save it to color and design however you think it would look best. Don't forget to send it back to us when you're done. We'd love to create everyone that participates and especially to the colored design that will eventually end up being our offical brand logo.

We're very excited to see the creative energy and inspiration that everyone brings. Our entire farmyard and family thank you so much for your help with this!!

Meet the newest member of the farmyard, Duplin!!!!

He was presumably dumped when someone moved out of their home. Duplin tried making one of our close friend's home, his home. However, this was not a good fit for them, so we got the call. After some discussion, we felt Duplin might be a good fit here depending on how his behavior towards dogs, other cats and birds is.

So far, he really wants to play with Nova, but Nova is less than thrilled at sharing attention. The dogs are being very respectful of Duplin's space and he's already calmed down to the point of ignoring them as long as they do not try to sniff in any closer than 6 inches from his body. Lol.

With regards to the inside birds..... he's been great. Quackers nipped at Duplin within the first 5 minutes of meeting him to establish dominance. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Duplin took the hint and is very respectful of Quackers' personal space. Duplin will watch the quail from a distance but he isn't really overly interested in them expect when they crow.

More to come as we see how the newest addition of the farmyard settles in!

Nest Number 3!!!!

We found that Rachel did not like to share a nest with our other two Magpie hens, Wilma or Wanda. She decided to make another nest of her own in the smaller chicken coop in the duck pen. So far she is up to 7 eggs.😁

Rachel might be small (at around 4lbs or so) but she is an award laying hen. Jacob proudly stands guard close by at all times while Rachel tends the nest and eggs. She hasn't started incubating them yet and with temps starting to drop, we may incubate them in an incubator to ensure they make it.

We'll keep everyone updated through this new nest journey. Quackers is from Rachel and Jacob's first clutch hatch. As much as we love our little house duck, we'd rather have future hatches to successfully learn they're ducks and join the outside flocks.

Wow, our quail are on fire since they've started laying. This is just from 3 days. Not all of them off laying yet, but this is just incredible!

Once they're all laying, we're planning on incubating based on breeding groups. We're looking primarily for healthiest, best temperaments and for fun... colors. Cannot wait to expand our little 'quailary' here on the farmyard. New setup pics to follow soon!

When you send your husband to for more feed and He comes home with extra treats from for the birds. Plus He found the cutest little shirt for our youngest daughter. Knowing her love of chickens, He couldn't resist getting it for her.

Can't tell who's more spoiled.... the kids or our livestock. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
