Starbie went to the shelter for her 4 week heartworm check. Technically, she is a few days early, because her 30 day mark is the 13th. Scheduling conflicts prevented that from happening, so we went in today.

Starbie got to see her favorite volunteer Angie and staff member Britton. She got her nails trimmed. Most importantly, she got great news: “Lungs and heart sound healthy” from the vet. We celebrated with a bath and drove home. Have I mentioned that Starbie is excellent in the car? (See pic)

Congratulations to Starbie! Huge barrier removed. She has a clean bill of health!

Starbie is available for adoption through Animal Care & Protective Services. She’ll remain in foster care until her furever home is found.

Starbie is 3 weeks and two days into her forced relaxation, post heartworm treatment. She can’t wait to resume taking neighborhood walks. Thanks to my mom and Duke, who share their home with Starbie and provide her a quiet place to recover.

STARBURST wants you to know that she’s hit her two weeks post heartworm treatment injections. Other than being very bored to prevent a clot breaking off as the heartworms dissolve, she’s doing great. She likes hanging out in her crate, sniffing the outdoors, rolling in the grass and requesting tummy rubs.

**What she misses most during her recovery:
Daily walks

**Newest discovery:
She loves watermelon and carrots.

Starbie is my foster girl and is available through Animal Care & Protective Services.
Her heartworm treatment was provided through generous donations made to Friends of Jacksonville Animals, Inc.

Got a great call last night from the vet tech at ACPS: Starburst got through Round 1 of her heartworm injections and did well. She required sedation, but was up and eating by 6:30 last night. Starburst hates cats (and squirrels), and was feeling well enough to bark at the cats stuck in the vet area with her. 😆 Round 2 is today, and she can be picked up to go home at 6:00 pm.

🚨SOS🚨 Sicky Pup Alert 🚑

I had to be brought back to the shelter and then I started coughing a bunch and throwing up. I definitely was feeling icky 🤢🤮.

They thought it could be my ❤️‍🩹 heartworms 🦠 giving me issues, so they did a chest xray 🩻 and it's not advanced, so it wasn't that. We aren't sure if I picked up a bug 😷 from my outings or the shelter, but I'm being treated now just in case it's a bug.

Momma Lynda Leffler Gridley offered to foster me so I could rest up throughout the week in a home thankfully. Thank you so much 😭🥲. These soft fluffy beds are so much more comfy 🤤 when I'm not feeling good than the cement floors at the shelter 🥹.

In case you didn't know, 💡a large majority of dogs enter the shelter with heartworms🦠. This is easily preventable with monthly prevention, but I never got any before coming to the shelter 😭. We get monthly prevention now 💊, but because controlling a calm environment is necessary for full treatment and recovery we don't get fully treated unless we are in a foster home 🏡. I'd really love to get treated, but need a dedicated foster to do so since the treatment will be stressful on my body and the shelter is too stressful of an environment. Thanks to Friends of Jacksonville Animals, Inc. ❤️ They will be covering the expenses for my heartworm treatment 🧑‍⚕️. They have fun fundraiser events all the time to help me and my buddies that live at ACPS. Please check them out 🙏!

I hope I find my family soon, so I can start treatment 🐾🌟❤️. Please give your furry babies monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention💊.
