First came the chicks, then puppy Junie, and a day later our LGD Oak happened into our laps, and he had to have some goats to watch over of course, then pretty soon after we found out we were having a baby girl!

On Small Business Saturday we would like to recognize Companion Canine Dog Training! Becky and Gueseppe are such a vital part of our dog program here at S1! They volunteer their time to help train our dogs, volunteers, interns and staff so our pups are more adoptable! They bring so much knowledge and experience to our rescue. Happy 1 year wedding anniversary to us! 🤍✨

This year was busy! We moved onto a homestead.
Continued growing our business. Added 2 new dogs, 2 goats, 16 chickens, AND a baby to the family. Life is good. 💍🐶☺️

Another successful Board & Train in the books!! Reactive, pulling, “doesn’t like to listen” Sheldon is a changed man 🙌. With a newly learned foundation of obedience skills, this 8 year old terrier is ready to take on the world again with his owners!

Board and Train programs are a great solution for dogs that need a hard reset. We bring them into our home to teach them new behaviors and coping mechanisms. Then when the dogs are ready to go home, their owners only have to apply the new knowledge & enjoy the fun parts of training!

As dog owners, we play an important role in our dogs’ social interactions! When new dogs meet, it’s not just about letting them figure it out on their own – we’re there to guide the interaction. If one dog misses a cue or the situation feels off, we can intervene with obedience commands like recalls or use a long line to redirect them. In some cases, removing a dog from the situation when needed is the best choice, ensuring everyone stays safe and calm. We can also teach our dogs the importance of taking breaks during interactions to avoid overstimulation.
