I have a chocolate Male up for discussion. He is around 9 months old. He comes from a well bred AKC dogs with a decent pedigree both parents are clear on all the genetics and parents were OFA certified. He was a clients dog but needed to rehome due to his wife’s medical issues arising while in training. He is through obedience and some basic collar conditioning and we are messing with him with birds to see what he has in him. I have a job offer up in Alaska with a guide service and will be leaving soon and need to have him a new home before I leave preferably. My plan was to flip him as a started dog before duck season. But Alaska has called. This is a perfect opportunity to get a dog that’s potty trained, crate trained, and obedience trained for that same amount as a puppy. No matter if you duck hunt or not this dog would starve in an active pet home as well! 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ pictures and meet ups available through messages or text!

**LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK REGARDING DOG BOARDING AND DAYCARE FACILITIES**

I am looking to start another small facility in the near future that specifically does boarding and daycare. As well as a small boarding and daycare facility id like to include a small pet shop that provides dog food and collars and the basics you need to have a dog. This has been a goal of mine for many years I have plans to eventually build a larger facility on my property in Jacksonville as well but looking to get started sooner rather then later. Just throwing the idea around and looking for some feedback from clients of mine as well as people who have never used me for training but use another boarding facility or daycare. If you have any recommendations for what you would like to see or things you have noticed other places don’t have I would love to hear it. My goal is to put it somewhere near Maysville NC as the small town I am lucky enough to call home is booming and exploding in economic growth. I’d also like to hear dog food and product suggestions as well! I am in the planning and funding stages of this venture and looking for the proper location to start currently. We want to congratulate Ryan and Clare on two 3rd places finishes in her first ever UFTA trial.

I can’t take all the credit on this one Ryan has been one proactive owner since purchasing ‘Clare’ from me last year. He started off by continuing to have her with me for training a few more months to get her ready to hunt. Boy oh boy have they hunted since then from quail, to Michigan grouse, to NC timberdoodles. Ryan and Clare have tirelessly worked together to become a heck of a team. I knew this dog was special. I was hesitant to sell her to Ryan but after we talked back and forth awhile I knew he was the perfect fit for this dog. Clare was a dog from day one, pointing, holding and retrieving all came naturally. Super proud moment for me as a trainer as I don’t field trial bird dogs. But this shows my hard work setting the foundation for Ryan to build from and Ryan’s effort to build the walls and put a roof on that foundation to get her to this point today!

My good friend Jeremie Lovejoy from Country Roads Retrievers put on a Youth Giveway Duck Hunt at Oak Hill Shooting Preserve allowing 18 kids to shoot ducks over the past 2 weekends with the help of some amazing sponsors. I am glad this year I was able to sponsor a kid for this event and help out by picking up ducks for him this weekend. I will do this event as long as it is going on, the smiles on the kids faces were priceless. Thank you to all the other sponsors and people who donated to this event as well and thank you again Jeremie for doing this event! Count me in for next year!

As hunting season gets closer, our preparation with the dogs gets to be more and more. Today we ran a setup with a winger and live shackled bird outta holding blinds. We also added in a goose flag from @tanglefreewaterfowl, goose shell style decoys, goose silos from @divebombindustries and a dove mojo from @mojooutdoors_official. This was a HRC style setup with popper shells. With the @momarsh_sws invisilab thrown in for an added factor!

Being a dog trainer isn’t all about training the way a book or DVD’s tells you, it has a lot to do with doing what best helps the specific dog in front of you. Luke was very unsure when it came to the water. He came to me too late in year to put him in the water last year. So we weren’t able to get him into the water until the other day we tried to get him in one of my training ponds to no avail. He would walk to the edge get his feet wet and go no further. We tried using my personal dog Aurora as a mentor dog on a retrieve for him and no luck with that either. So we took him out to some of my other training grounds and we took him for a swim. This is a video I took of Luke and my bird boy, Junior, swimming around the pond after I got out of the water and went to put away all 5 of the other dogs we had out swimming. Sometimes you gotta just think outside of the box to best suit the dogs specific individual needs. This is what I love about what I do. I’d say gunner has done great through our 3 week on leash obedience program and looking forward to the 3 weeks of off leash and collar conditioning. Gunner is a sweet energetic boy who came to us because he needed some training in public around other people and dogs as well as reliable off leash recall. Super pleased with this boys progress in our obedience program. This is a video of me walking gunner in heel allowing him to drag the leash in Home Depot while running some kennel errands yesterday. He was able to walk past lots of people and another dog and through crowds. Gunner also was able to receive love from a few people inside the store while I was talking to people and handing out a few business cards. Was beginning to look like it was gonna be lots of pigeon only work for our bird dogs this spring. But I am happy to announce to my current clients and prospective clients that I have been able to get my hands on enough birds to get me through until my summer suppliers quail are available. Birds make bird dogs and only birds. We use mainly frozen ducks for our duck dogs with the exception of a few live mallard flyers and live pigeons but, these bird dogs need flight/weather conditioned birds that will get up and go when pressured. I could have got it done with just pigeons because all my dogs have already been started and worked with on pointing and flushing quail. But it’s so much more productive and effective to have both pigeons and a game bird species like quail to work dogs on. Enjoying this group of dogs a lot and having lots of success. Brilley has a problem with cheating and flaring obstacles so running him back and forth down the keyhole in a “NO NO” drill fashion to teach him to go straight there and straight back and that’s the only way he can go. This is what it is all about! This is Truff and her owner James out on a dove hunt. James comes out and trains with me on the weekends whenever he can, when him and Truff first came out she had never seen a bird, didn’t want to get in the water, wouldn’t pick up marks she was only around 7 months old. We put in the work to help get Truff excited about birds and turned her into a little water dog! As well as giving James the Knowledge he needed to go home and work with Truff! My favorite part of being a dog trainer is helping owners and their dogs become a better team and flipping the switches and taking a average dog and turning it into a bird dog! Shooting down some Pigeons for this pretty girl today for the first time! Super proud of how much this dog has progressed in only 2 months. She has had maybe 20 bird contacts and she isn’t paying the gun no mind, retrieving marks like she was a retriever and nailing birds like a grown dog on point. She is steady until someone gets in front to flush but now to shoot down some quail for her. Then to steady her up before season comes in! Cant wait til October! Waylon Update: This is what I love most about training dogs! The small wins!
