We are back to highlight another special pooch! Congratulations Paco, you are our Dog of the Quarter!

Paco was adopted by Paula from a shelter on Isola de Mujeres in Mexico, after being sent to NYC when he was a little over a year old for treatment for heartworm and ehrlichiosis. Paco’s veterinarian called Paula to ask if she was interested in keeping him for a weekend since she knew Paula was thinking about a second dog. Initially, Paco was very skittish and afraid of people, other dogs, the elevator, and even rain! He was very underweight and appeared emaciated. It didn’t take long for him come around and adapt to his new environment. In fact, he’ll take his filet mignon medium rare, thank you! He went from 26 pounds to 46 pounds and very healthy. He loves attention, especially from children. He was very popular on walks in NYC and now, in Jacksonville. He will be 15 on July 2nd and continues to be Paula’s bundle of joy! Happiest of Birthdays to one pawesome pooch, we all love you very much Paco!

We are back to highlight another special pooch! Congratulations Murphy, you are our Dog of the Quarter!

Murphy comes to us from Connecticut and is so special to Jackson and Christi - he’s their best friend! Murphy is an amazing hiker and loves to explore the woods. He can walk the trails for miles and miles without batting an eye. Since their recent move to Florida, Murphy has definitely grown to love the coastline and all our beaches have to offer. When he’s not fetching tennis balls or chasing squirrels, he LOVES sitting on their porch and people-watching; which is one of his many weird quirks. Murphy definitely makes life fun and lights up everyone’s day, no matter the place or time. He just has a heart of gold and is loved unconditionally!

Happy New Year, 2021 promises to be an exciting year! We are excited to kick off the new year with the highlighting of another special pooch! Congratulations Buddy, you are our Dog of the Quarter!

Buddy comes to us from the sunny beaches of California and is a very special member of the McAlister Family. I met Buddy at our community dog park where he loves to sniff all things green and roam to his heart’s content! Buddy is one of our senior pooches and requires special care daily, but he never lets it get him down. He has a playful spirit and remains young at heart. Buddy enjoys shorter walks and longer naps these days, but don’t let him fool you! He gets a pep in his step and will venture out for longer strolls with his humans. He also loves and protects his humans without fail. Buddy, we love you!

Welcome to October, we are nearing the end of 2020 and we are excited to kick off this month with the highlighting of a special pooch! Congratulations Kylee, you are our Dog of the Quarter!

Kylee, and her sister Rylee, were abandoned when their owners moved. They lived in the woods for 4 months because they were too scared to get near anyone to be rescued. Clay County Animal Control used humane traps to capture them. Rylee was caught first, but it took 3 weeks before Kylee could be caught. Her owner, Shirley, started fostering Kylee in May of 2019. She was a very scared dog. Shirley couldn’t go near her and Kylee had to be kept on leash when she was out of her kennel. It took 3 months before Kylee would allow Shirley to pet her. As if fear of humans wasn’t enough, Shirley found out that Kylee was heart worm positive in March of 2020. Kylee is a trooper however! She successfully completed the 3 shot protocol a little over 3 months ago and is back to being a silly, sweet, loving lap dog! She’s also the big sister to Isabella and Loki Bear. Kylee is an amazing pup!

Heartworm disease is a potentially fatal condition in pets, spread by mosquitos, in the United States and other parts of the world. Heartworm prevention is by far the best option for this terrible disease. The American Heartworm Society recommends year round prevention for dog and cats in the US, even in regions that experience cold winters. Let’s keep this in mind as we enjoy those cooler temperatures! Thanks for keeping us in the know!
