MUST READ IF YOU'RE A CLIENT TO ANY DOG TRAINER.

When the trainer isn’t there, maintaining consistency and responsibility in dog training is essential to reinforce the behaviors and progress achieved during professional sessions. Here are some key points to emphasize:
1. Follow Through with Commands
Always enforce the commands your dog has learned, using the same verbal cues, hand signals, and tone. Inconsistency in commands or expectations can confuse the dog and weaken their understanding.
2. Set Clear Boundaries
Consistently maintain the rules and boundaries established during training. If certain behaviors (like jumping or pulling on the leash) were corrected, allowing them occasionally sends mixed signals.
3. Repetition and Reinforcement
Practice daily, even if it’s only for 10-15 minutes. Short, frequent training sessions help reinforce obedience and keep the dog engaged. Repeating exercises in different environments mimics real-world scenarios, reinforcing behavior.
4. Use the Same Rewards and Corrections
Be consistent with the type and timing of rewards (like treats or praise) and corrections if necessary. This reinforces what’s expected and helps the dog associate actions with consequences.
5. Incorporate Training into Everyday Life
Don’t limit training to designated sessions. Reinforce commands during walks, playtime, and mealtime to make good behavior part of their routine.
6. Address Unwanted Behavior Immediately
Correct undesirable behaviors as soon as they occur. Delayed corrections confuse the dog and make it harder for them to associate the behavior with the consequence.
7. Confidence and Leadership
Dogs respond best to confident, calm, and assertive leadership. If you’re unsure or inconsistent, the dog may test boundaries or revert to old behaviors.
8. Communicate with Your Trainer
If challenges arise, consult your trainer for guidance. They can help troubleshoot issues and suggest adjustments to maintain progress.

Consistency and structure build trust and clarity for the dog, ensuring long-term success even when the trainer isn’t there.

Meet Tank, an 11-month Olde English Bulldogge, a breed distinct from English or American bulldogs. Tank is a robust working-line dog. Tank has a history of biting, typically directed towards dog trainers 🤣. Tank underwent training with a prominent dog training company in Jacksonville, Florida; however, they were unable to correct his aggressive behavior towards humans and other dogs, causing frustration for his owners to the point of considering euthanasia. Fortunately, they contacted me; this is our third session, and in close proximity, without a muzzle, and with the ability to assume leash control over him.
