W!nner w!nner; mealworm dinner!🪱
Please excuse the bleeped words. I have to do it to prevent sc@mmers from finding my posts.😂
I counted out 41 slings from Lola’s egg sack. Sadly, 1 of them didn’t make it, but I still counted them.
Congratulations to Jenina Aasen and Stacy Hewitt for being the w!nners of our very first c0ntest!🫶🏻 I will reach out to you shortly to ask for your contact info through Facebook messenger.
Once again, thank you to everyone that participated and shared.🥰

Little updates:
-The slings still haven’t fully emerged; I will announce our w!nner as soon as they do.🙈
-My tagging feature doesn’t seem to be working. Im not sure why. I mainly wanted to use this just for g!veaways and when we do our official launch. I guess I’ll have to rely on facebook’s algorithm for that.🫠
-I’ve gotten 3 messages this past week from Florida residents asking if I will have a permit for my spiders. I did make a post about this, but I know not everyone sees my posts in their feed. I do not have a permit because at the moment, I only have Florida native spiders in my possession. A permit isn’t required unless I obtain non-native species. I’ve already chatted with the Florida Department of Agriculture to make sure everything is good on my end so that my customers do not have any issues. If you’re a Florida resident, no worries! None of my spiders need permits at this point and if I do ever decide to branch into non-native species, i will get the permit for them.
-We’re super close to 1,000 followers! I’m sure we will be there by the time the slings reach i6. So, once the slings are i6, I will have another g!veaway. This g!veaway will be a bit bigger to celebrate our official website launch and 1k followers. I can’t give too many details because I have a few secret surprises I’ve been holding back for several months now.😂 But what I can say is that I’ll be giving away another spider and an enclosure, along with some other neat small goodies to ONE w!nner. We will do a live “spin the wheel” for the w!nner of the 1k follower contest. I will never make a w!nner pay for shipping; just so you guys know. I’ve won a free spider in a contest before and was never told I’d have to pay for shipping, so that was a surprise to me.😳
-Oh and lastly, we’ve had 2 pet stores express interest in wanting to buy wholesale, so I may be working with them in the near future. I think it’s neat that they want to make sure the spiders they’re selling are captive bred. If I do agree to send them some spiders, it will only be when I have more clutches of slings than I know what to do with.

Thank you to this week’s top engagers! I appreciate you guys so much. All of these peeps are small business owners as well; selling jumping spiders and/or enclosures and accessories.🥰 Give them a follow if you don’t already.

Keeping feeders is a part of jumping spider ownership. I have a quick care guide as a pinned post on my page. In that quick care guide, I go over how to keep your feeders. It’s very easy.
But something we do not talk about often is:
How do you dispose of feeders that are mostly dead or old? You may see that your mealworms are turning a little black. If you’re seeing quite a few turning black after some time in the fridge, they’re dying and need to be disposed of. Even though most of them look dead, some of them could still be alive. Properly dispose of your feeders by freezing them for 48 hours to insure they’re dead and then throw them away in your trash can. Be a responsible keeper.❤️ This goes for ANY feeder.

Thank you to everyone who entered into the g!veaway and everyone who shared the post, especially breeders. It’s cool to have breeders supporting each other in this hobby.🥰
The slings still haven’t emerged from the egg sack, but almost all of them are hanging around at the entrance to the sack, so as soon as they emerge for me to count and put them in their big deli cup, I will announce the w!nner in a post.
Once we have a w!nner, I will reach out to them to ask for a phone number and preferred gender for their spider. I just want to ask for a phone number because sometimes Facebook messages can go unseen.
Again, I want to stress that I have to wait for the slings to reach i6 in order to ship them to the w!nner. This can take around 3-4 months, but as soon as they reach that instar, I will shoot a text to the w!nner to arrange their shipment.
Thank you all for the support.❤️

In case some of you don’t know, The Florida Department of Agriculture has established fairly new guidelines regarding non-Florida native arthropods. Florida’s department of agriculture is now requiring Florida residents to have a permit in order to keep, sell, or receive species of jumping spiders that are not native to Florida. In order to obtain said permit, you must submit a “specimen” to the department of agriculture that you will not get back.
I understand the root reason for this new process. It’s detrimental to states to have non-native species released into their environment. Releasing non-native species can dilute the native populations and cause more issues than we could ever predict.
What I want to bring to light is: PLEASE be aware of the harms of releasing non-native animals, arachnids, insects, or feeders outdoors. There have been many times throughout the years that non-native animals have been released outdoors and it has created issues with the natural structure of local environments. IE: African Land Snails invading Florida in the 60’s-70’s, ball pythons appearing in Hilo, green iguanas invading Florida in the 1960s. All cases are similar because all of those species were kept as non-native pets and released into the environment, thus reproducing in non-native lands.
If you have a pet that is NOT native to your area, please do not release it into your local area. Find someone to take them. If you have feeders that you need to dispose of, please dispose of them properly. Do not throw them in the garbage outside if they’re alive, do not release them in your yard.
You can properly dispose of feeders by sticking your feeders in the freezer for 48 hours and then disposing of them in your outdoor garbage can.
I like to think that all of us in this hobby have a deep appreciation for the environment, our natural habitats, and for our different species of jumping spiders. If we begin to be neglectful by releasing our pets into non-native areas, we could put our hobby in jeopardy. Our local governments could start making laws even more strict.
Phidippus Regius (regal jumping spiders) are very known for predominately being from Florida. However, they also belong to other areas such as the Bahamas, Pennsylvania, the Carolina’s, and some other states. Each state’s regal jumping spiders differentiate from other locales. For example, most of us know of “apalachicola” variants of regals. They tend to be larger in size and have a more distinct pattern and coloration. They belong to the apalachicola area of Florida.
Basically, what I’m saying is: just because regals are technically native to you, does not mean that the variant you’re keeping IS native to you.
If you live in Florida and are keeping regal jumping spiders that you obtained from a breeder in a different state, your pet may not be a native.
I also want to stress that all of my spiders come from Florida native parents, so thankfully, I do not need to obtain permits. I did have plans on branching into other species that aren’t native to Florida, but I’m putting that on hold due to the complexity of the new guidelines. This also changes how I have to go about breeding. I’m going to have to be very thorough with who I obtain my parent spiders from so that they’re Florida natives. I may also have to introduce wild caught locals into my breeding practices at some point in the future as well. I guess that’s for my future self to worry about at a later time.
So, if you’re a Florida resident, you’re safe to obtain regals from me because they’re Florida locale.❤️ Also, please remember that ANY spider you receive from me is and always will be captively bred and raised.

🕷️G!VEAWAY TIME🕷️
To celebrate our first clutch of babies at Jumping Jax Spoods; we’re doing our very first g!veaway contest!
All you have to do is guess how many spiderlings are in Lola’s egg sack. W!nner receives a free spider WITH free shipping (unless local).🥰 US participants only.
-Comment your guess; 1 entry only. Please share this post, but sharing is not required. It’s just appreciated.
-Whoever guesses the closest to the answer w!ns.
-C0ntest ends Sunday 5/19 at 12PM EST. W!nner will be announced Sunday afternoon IF all of the slings have emerged from the egg sack by then.
-W!nner will not receive their free spider until slings have reached i6, to insure safe shipping. This could take around 3-4 months. Contact information such as phone number and email will be asked from the w!nner to insure communication prior to shipping.

Pictures included of the current progress of the egg sack; just to make it more fun.❤️

Did you know?
When jumping spiders are pre-molt, their abdomens tend to swell up and look pretty big.
This is because when they’re getting ready to molt, their body gets ready for the process by building up hemolymph within their body to help push their old exoskeleton off. Along with that, their exoskeleton builds up a layer of critical oils between the old exo and the new one. The critical oils help the exoskeleton to slide off easier.
I see many people frantic because their spider hasn’t eaten in 2-3 weeks and their abdomens are staying the same size… or even getting larger. No reason to stress! Your spider may be getting ready to molt. Other signs of pre-molt are:
-Building a thick hammock or making their current hammock thicker
-lounging around in their hammock and not coming out.
-Skittish behaviors such as running and hiding when attempting to hold them, scared of their prey.

Just a little update as a pinned post!
Lola is our only mama right now. She layed her first egg sack a little over 2 weeks ago. I separated her from the sack 2 days ago because she had came out and I’m starting to see some of the eggs developing into little spiderlings. It’s easier to separate her now Vs when they start emerging and she seems to be doing perfectly fine. This is just a current update of things. I get messages asking if I have spiders available; I do not at this moment have any available. This is the only clutch so far and it’s going to take some time before they emerge and are old enough to adopt out. It will very likely be a small clutch; the egg sack is pretty small.
Once the slings reach i5-i6; I will upload my website. I won’t be taking orders through FB; only through my website.
I have plans on pairing Jade as well, but that will be in the future; as she’s still not mature yet. Jade is a Florida white regal.

It’s cute watching mama Lola hug her little eggs. So far, everything is going well. We still have plenty of time before the babies come, but I’m getting a head start on her clutch’s individual cups. I work full time and do this, so it’s good to prepare ahead of time.🙂❤️

What a nice surprise this morning🫶🏻
So far, the eggs are looking fertile.
Mama is Lola and dad is Oggy. Lola came from dark phase parents and Oggy came from an orange phase mom. This clutch could be a mixture of orange, dark, and tan colored little babes.

That head tilt🥰🥺 Raven is always intrigued by my strands of hair, lol.

A successful pairing between Oggy and Lola❤️
I’m a little surprised because Lola is one of my sassy girls.😂

I’m back in the full swing of things! If the spiders would just cooperate.😂 You can’t force it; of course.
We’ve made lots of much needed changes and made a little creation space in the spare bedroom along with a new set up for the spiders. I still have lots of other things to do to make things easier for running the business, but it’s a good start. I’m thankful for my fiancé because she’s been very encouraging. She helped me put together the bookshelf and the chair. She also got me the table and chair.🥰
I’ve finished designing my website, but I haven’t put it online yet. I’m waiting for the future babies to be old enough to adopt out before I put my site online because I have a really neat surprise on there.
Thank you for your patience! On a serious note, we spent lots of time with our fur baby, Emma. She unfortunately passed away in January and I had to wait for myself to be in the right head space to put my energy back into kickstarting this business. There was a long period of time where I wasn’t sure if my desire to do this would return. I just needed some time. It still hurts, but I’m starting to enjoy what I’m doing again and can’t wait for everything to be up and running.

Hey everyone. Breeding the spiders has been put on a temporary hold until further notice.
Our 8 year old boxer baby, Emma, was just diagnosed with Lymphoma after having a surgery to remove a mass in her small intestine. Caring for her has been a full time job and probably will be for a long while. I have to take care of my baby.❤️ I’ll keep everyone updated.

I got this sweet little Bean today. I’m naming him/her Bean.
This little one is a white line regal. I’m about 85% certain it’s a boy, but it’s i6 and comes from white parents, so I can’t be too quick to gender them because they can make some major changes at i7-i8. Afterall, Jade had green chels for a little bit. It’s siblings are still black as well. Lol.
I gotta say, though, this little one is very social and silly.❤️

It’s bittersweet seeing how much Jade has grown since I got her. I believe she was i5 when I adopted her and she’s molted with me 4 times now. She can take her time with this (potentially) last molt; I don’t want her to grow up yet.🥰❤️
