Xylitol is an ingredient that comes from birch bark and can be found in many different items like:
Peanut Butter
Sugar Free Gum
Skin Care Products
Nasal Sprays
Vitamins
Toothpaste
Mouth Rinse
Dental Floss

In dogs, if they ingest this ingredient, it causes a release of insulin which can lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). They could start vomiting. become weak and even possibly have seizures. They would need to be seen immediately if they ingest this. You can contact the ASPCA Pet Poison Control if they ingest any as well or go to the closest emergency hospital.

Eeyore has been progressing well after his surgery at North Florida Neurology. He had to get his neck stabilized due to a birth defect in his spine and a cyst removed that was compressing his spinal cord.
