We know we are closed on Mondays but we wanted to celebrate some of our adoptions from last week 🎉 we had a total of 46 adoptions! We thankful for each adoption especially long timers Poodle and Mac 😊

With that being said, we did still intake 71 pets last week. The numbers: 17 cats, 53 dogs, and 1 pig. If you’re missing your pet, please visit our website to look and hopefully reclaim your pet.

Where are our hound lovers ❤️🐾

In our area, we get a lot of hounds. They are such sweet, cuddly, and have a lot of endurance. Coonhounds and other hound breeds are intelligent and active breeds. They strive when you let them follow their nose! 👃 so, if you are wanting a hound, look up some fun nose games for them, take them on walks or runs to follow their nose, and they typically do best with other dogs.

Our November 2024 numbers are complete and we are still proud of our ability to persevere. Between the spike in intakes in October and the case before Thanksgiving, our number reflect the challenges that we faced. Our total live release rate was 85.04% 🎉 while it's not over 90%, we are still proud of our accomplishments and perseverance!

So, how can our community show support and continue the positive changes?

4 - Volunteer at the shelter. Can't foster or adopt but have extra time? Donate your time by being a volunteer. To apply, visit our website here:

Next, the amount of additions to our owner surrender waitlist continues to grow. This month we added 61 people. If you are needing to surrender your pet, please make sure that you visit our website for resources and to understand the process at https://www.onslowcountync.gov/2272/Rehoming-Resources
So, how do we overcome this? SPAY & NEUTER = Fixing your pets to reduce unwanted litters. It is truly that simple. Please visit our website here for more low-cost resources and information about the surrender process: https://www.onslowcountync.gov/.../Information-and-Resources

Lastly, we are creating positive relationships with our community organizations, establishing a TNVR program to help reduce cat overpopulation, hosting low-cost clinics for rabies vaccines, educating spay/neuter to the public and most importantly, the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and fosters. These numbers are a reflection of the support and positivity that our community has for us and vice versa. We are so appreciative of our community and staff that continue to strive to be better!

Lastly, with the onboarding of the large intake of approximately 40 pets from the case, we are asking our community to follow these steps when you find a stray pet:
1 - Create a lost/found report on our website to increase reunification rates: https://www.onslowcountync.gov/1199/Report-LostFound-Pet
2 - Walk through the neighborhood that you found the pet and complete a search of the area found to help reunite the pet quickly. When you remove the pet from the area, the likelihood of reunification decreases.
3 - Go to a microchip scanning station in Onslow County or a vet office to have the pet scanned for a chip. We now have one at the shelter for outside of business hours!
4 - Lastly, bring the pet to the shelter during our business hours to turn over to the county for the stray hold. **Please note: We do not complete paperwork outside of the business hours due to needing to complete other duties. However, we now have a microchip scanning station placed by Paws 4 Purpose to help you reunite the pet outside of our business hours.
5 - (Stray dogs only) Contact Animal Control when outside of shelter business hours by calling county dispatch at 910-455-9119 or by pressing 1 on our main line 910-455-0182. **Please note: Stray dogs are not considered emergency calls and Animal Control will assist during their scheduled hours.

Lastly, we want to leave you with how you can help at the shelter or in the community. You can Volunteer, Foster, Donate, Adopt, or just be supportive. This is a community and our goals are still the same - transparency, honesty, and compassion.

We had 12 adoptions finalized today 🐾 we are thankful for each one!

However, we foster returns and more intakes, we are now up to 98 dogs and 65 cats at the shelter. Our Holiday Promotion goes until December 15th, 2024, so come find a pet a new home for the holiday ❄️

One of the Holiday Fosters was adopted today! His adopter met and fell in love with him at his foster’s home and now…he has a home of his own 🐾 happy life and a wonderful THANK YOU to our Holiday Fosters for this Thanksgiving!
