We are holding a raffle this week! For every donation of Purina Dog Chow 18lb bag or Friskies Pate 30 count, will equal ONE entry to either a dog or cat basket.
Drawing will happen at 4pm on Saturday, September 7th during our vendor event.

Since Friday, 8/30, we have taken in 13 cats and 26 dogs! This statistic shows how common it is to lose a furry family member coupled with the amount of pets that we have seen come into OCAS in 5 days.

Community members, we are looking for help and need heroes!! 🎖 🦸♂️we have 36 wonderful dogs and puppies looking for a home - many are long term residents that have been at the shelter waiting on a forever home. Apollo and Mocha met the kindest lady today. Kristin reached out to us because she wanted to sponsor the longest resident dog and ended up sponsoring 2 - Apollo and Mocha.
The sponsoring of Apollo and Mocha was in memory of her late sister, Rachel ❤️ Rachel sadly passed from an unexpected illness on August 29, 2022. So in honor of her immense love for animals, Kristin came to the shelter to sponsor and meet Apollo and Mocha to help them find their next loving home.
Kristin said, “She (her sister) loved animals more than anyone I know - except for my grandmother.”
We appreciate Kristin for allowing us to be a part of honoring her sister, Rachel ❤️ here’s to helping fulfill the next wish, finding Apollo and Mocha a loving home.

Sherman has dawned on his pumpkin outfit because he is already looking forward to the pumpkin season 🍂 the cooler weather last week has him ready for pumpkin spice everything, sweater weather, and all things Fall.
Sherman is a 2 year old Maltese mix breed at 16lbs, perfect for cuddling! His adoption fee is $80 and covers his neuter, microchip, vaccines, flea/tick prevention, heartworm testing, heartworm prevention, and other necessary vetting.

Apollo rocks 🐾
Our Adoptable Rock of the Week is Apollo! He’s a 10 year old husky mix who is house and crate trained. Apollo is always in good spirits, no matter what, and he gets along well with kids and other dogs, although he isn’t a fan of felines – he likes to chase them. He’s looking for an active family that can keep up with him. Apollo has found himself back at the shelter through no fault of his own, and he needs a committed adopter. We had 3 adoptions yesterday, happy life to Hersey, Hamlet, and long-time pup, Skye! ❤️
We wanted to share that Skye went to foster back in July and her foster fell in love with her, so he made it official yesterday 🐾 he joined our weekend foster program to help dogs get out of the shelter for a few days and help us learn more about them for adoption.
🔆 If you are interested in helping, we need more adoptions and fosters! We had 12 new intakes yesterday and only 3 pets adopted.

This little guy is a 2 year old, long haired chihuahua that is ready to go home today! Stewart came to us as a stray pup, so we don't know much about him except that he is a sweetheart 💞 his adoption fee is $80 and covers his current vetting!

Archer (hound mix) and Penelope went for their spa day today🧖 🧖♀️ our wonderful donor, graciously paid for their baths today and now they are ready for their home.
Archer is an active pup that reminds us of a blonde expresso ☕️ He is about 53 lbs and has been at the shelter for 32 days. He loves sniffing the yard, car rides and is an alert happy pup. Where are all our hound lovers?
Penelope is sweet pea and reminds us of a sweet carmel macchiato🧋She is 43 lbs and has been at the shelter for 34 days waiting for a visitor! She’s happiest running in the play yard and showing off her zoomies and after that she’ll “sploot” and relax at your feet. Penelope is house trained per her previous adopter and will sit for treats or a toy. She is so friendly and just wants a family of her own!
Both these pups and over 35 other deserving pets are waiting for a chance at a forever home. You can make a difference in helping these great pets by choosing to adopt! Stop by the shelter to meet them and let’s this month!

Meet Lotto! This handsome dude a pittie mix, who’s a little over a year old. He is a loveable boy who will melt your heart with his expressive eyes and friendly personality. He loves chasing a ball, going for a walk and loves belly rubs.

FOSTER PET HIGHLIGHT 🐾
Hi there!! My name is Flower and it must be because I’m beautiful and sweet!
I can’t wait to meet you, especially if you’re going to throw some toys for me! I love, love, love to chase balls, play fetch and tug. I’m muscular and athletic and enjoy keeping up my beach bod. But once I’m done running around, I’ll sploot on the floor to cool down, panting with my super long tongue hanging out. That’s how you know I need a break. Oh hey, did you notice my ears? One up and one down – always. It’s sort of my trademark.
My foster mom says I’d be a terrible watch dog because I seem to just love everyone I meet. Wanna come over and I’ll show you my toys? I’d love if you could throw them around for me! No? Okay then, I will chew on my Nylabone for a bit or maybe we can hang out on the couch together and watch a movie, and share some popcorn?
Wait, did you just grab the leash? Yes! I would love to go for a walk! Thank you for asking! I like to smell everything and meet people, especially at the farmers market. I can also pass by other dogs nicely. I’m interested in them but if we can’t say hi, that’s okay too. Just build in some extra time for our walk because I’m an attention grabber and people will stop and ask if they can say hi to me. It’s hard having the paparazzi around. 🤷🏼♀️
Did I mention I like going in the car? I ride really well and am happy to go wherever you want to take me. Farmers market, park, outdoor dining or hiking! I’m up for it all!
I am learning to drop my toys, which is hard because I love them so much, but I happily will trade you for another toy to chase and drop the one I have. And I take treats very gently, in case you’re wondering.
When it’s time for bed or you need to go out for a bit, I’ll take a nice, long nap in my crate. Did I mention that I sleep through the night without a peep? And, I’m housebroken! I even whine a little at the back door to let you know when I need to go out.
I’m ready for a real family. While I look “happy as a clam” here at my foster parents, they need to help some of my other friends at the shelter too. I’ve so enjoyed my foster family and the people at the shelter are really nice, but I’d love a family to call my very own. Will it be you? I can’t wait to meet you!

***ADOPTED*** How does a good boy like Richard keep being overlooked? This handsome boy has been at the shelter for over a month and no one has taken notice. Richard is about 5 years old, clever, playful and an all-around good pup. He is 70 pounds, mixed breed and heartworm negative. He does well meeting new people and other dogs too. We would love to see him go home today!
Our adoptable friends at Western Blvd PetSmart got a special treat this morning, but what they really need is a forever home. Apollo, Wells, Jacques and Mya are all long term residents. We released our numbers for full transparency yesterday. To keep those numbers trending positively, we need adopters. So if you are looking to add a canine companion to your family, stop by the Western Blvd PetSmart or our shelter location today and give a shelter pet in need a second chance.

Our longest shelter resident Jacques is so much more than a sad pup behind a kennel door. Jacques is playful, silly, and full of life and personality. Jacques lives for playtime and his toys and loves his time outside. Our shelter volunteers do such an amazing job getting our pups time outside the kennels, but dogs, especially busy pups like Jacques need a home with lots of freedom to run and play. We would love to see Jacques finally go to his perfect home with a big, fenced yard to explore and a human who can keep up. Just look at that tail wag! If you are looking for a loyal and charismatic companion, give this boy a chance! Please share and help him find his human ♥️

Willy came to us with an injury to his eye and our veterinary team thought he would benefit from having it removed to make him more comfortable. Now he just needs a home to let him continue his recovery ❤️🩹 he is named after the Goonies for their One-Eyed Willy and he is just as spunky.
