Happy National Popcorn Day! 🍿🐾 We all know popcorn is the perfect snack for movie nights, but did you know it's also a paw-some treat for your dog (in moderation, of course)?

Now, before you toss a handful of buttery popcorn to your pup, remember: no butter, no salt, no flavoring! Plain, air-popped popcorn is the way to go. Your dog doesn’t need the extra calories or a salty surprise that could send their stomach into a tailspin. But a few kernels here and there? Totally fine!

Just imagine your pup's face when they realize they’re part of your snack time. They’ll be popping with joy (pun totally intended)! 😆🍿🐕

And hey, if your dog does the “popcorn dance” where they bounce around trying to catch it mid-air, don’t worry—they’re just showing off their amazing skills... or maybe they’re just hoping you’ll throw more. Either way, they’re winning!

So today, celebrate National Popcorn Day by sharing the plain love with your furry friend (and maybe sneak a few kernels for yourself too!). Just remember: popcorn isn’t a full meal, but it’s definitely a fun snack for both you and your pup to enjoy together. 🐶❤️🍿 🍿

Is your cat suddenly going outside the litter box? It can be frustrating and confusing, but there are a few common reasons why this might be happening. Let’s take a look at some of the most common causes and what you can do to help your feline friend get back on track.

1. Medical Issues
One of the first things to consider is your cat’s health. Urinary tract infections (UTIs), bladder stones, or kidney disease can make it painful or difficult for your cat to use the litter box. If you notice blood in the urine, frequent trips to the box, or signs of discomfort, it’s time to visit the vet for a check-up. Addressing any underlying medical issues is key to solving the problem.

2. Stress and Anxiety
Cats are creatures of habit, and changes in their environment or routine can lead to stress. A new pet, move to a new home, or even a change in your schedule can make them anxious, causing them to avoid the litter box. Try to identify any recent changes and see if you can provide your cat with a calm, safe space to feel more comfortable.

3. Dirty Litter Box
Yes, cats are picky! A dirty litter box is one of the most common reasons cats refuse to use it. Make sure to scoop the box daily and change the litter regularly. Also, some cats don’t like the texture or scent of certain types of litter, so experiment with different options to see what your cat prefers.

4. Litter Box Location
Cats can be particular about where their litter box is placed. It should be in a quiet, low-traffic area, away from their food and water bowls. If the box is in a noisy or high-traffic area, your cat may avoid it. Ensure it’s accessible and private for your kitty.

5. Multiple Cats
If you have more than one cat, there might be territorial issues at play. Make sure you have enough litter boxes—at least one per cat, plus an extra. Cats are very particular about sharing, and having more than one box can help avoid conflicts.

6. Behavioral Issues
Sometimes, a cat may be marking their territory or simply rejecting the box for behavioral reasons. If your cat is spaying or spraying outside the box, you may need to consult with a behaviorist for advice on how to address it. They might suggest pheromone diffusers, specific training, or other strategies.

What You Can Do:
🐈‍⬛Visit the vet to rule out any medical conditions.
🐈‍⬛Clean the litter box regularly and experiment with different types of litter.
🐈‍⬛Create a calm, stress-free environment and maintain a consistent routine.
🐈‍⬛Ensure you have enough litter boxes for multi-cat households.
🐈‍⬛Try using a pheromone collar like NurtureCalm to help reduce stress and anxiety.
Remember, your cat’s behavior is often a sign they need help, whether it's medical or environmental. With a little patience and understanding, you can get your kitty back to using the litter box where it belongs! 🐱🚽

🐾 Happy National Dress Your Pet Up Day! 🐾🎩

Today’s the day we embarrass our pets for the sake of adorable Instagram photos and memories they’ll never forgive us for. 😅

🐕 Dogs:

“Sure, I’ll wear the sweater… but only if treats are involved. Lots of treats.”
Pro tip: If your dog starts zooming while dressed up, just accept the outfit’s fate—it’s now part of the furniture.
🐈 Cats:

“You put what on me? Expect revenge at 3 AM. Start with your favorite lamp.”
Somehow, though, they look majestic even in a taco costume, while we look like chaos in sweatpants.
👗 Our Reality:

Five minutes of dressing up.
Fifteen minutes of bribery.
Thirty seconds of photos before the meltdown begins.
Let’s be honest: they’ll spend the rest of the day plotting against us, but it’s worth it for the priceless photos. Drop your best (or most hilarious) pet dress-up pics in the comments—we need to see them! Bonus points if your pet’s side-eye game is strong. 🐾😂

Meet Rusty, the 11-year-old cocker spaniel with a heart full of love and a spirit that’s truly unmatched. Though Rusty has been facing some health challenges, including a grade 4 heart murmur, heart disease and numerous lumps that have been growing, we weren't going to let anything stop him from getting the care he deserves.

Before proceeding with his needed procedures, including lump removals and a dental cleaning, (as you may or may not be aware, Periodontal disease in dogs and cats has been linked to heart disease in numerous studies. The more severe the periodontal disease, the greater the risk of heart disease. For example, dogs with advanced gum disease have a risk of endocarditis, a potentially fatal infection of the heart's lining, that's up to six times higher than dogs without gum disease) we took the necessary precautions to ensure Rusty could safely undergo anesthesia. Rusty had a chemistry panel (bloodwork) done, and he visited Dr. Borde, our trusted veterinary cardiologist, for a thorough echocardiogram. An echo is a non-invasive ultrasound that gives us a detailed view of the heart's structure and function, allowing us to assess the severity of heart disease and tailor our approach to anesthesia and surgery.

Rusty also underwent an EKG on the day of the procedure. This test records the electrical activity of the heart, helping us to monitor his heart’s rhythm and ensure there were no underlying issues that could make the anesthesia dangerous. With these important diagnostic tools and a tailored treatment plan, Rusty was able to safely undergo his surgery.

The results? A large mass was removed, and his teeth were cleaned, complete with full mouth radiographs (X-rays) to ensure his dental health was in the best shape possible. Later that same day, Rusty went home with a fresh smile, and his grateful owner was able to enjoy the company of his pup with a pearly whites and fresh breath.

This journey is a reminder that just because a pet has heart disease, it doesn't mean we can't treat other issues they may be facing. It just means we take extra care. Heart patients require more caution, and we rely on tools like echocardiograms and EKGs to make sure their heart health is managed while addressing other concerns.

Thank you to Rusty for showing us the true meaning of resilience and to his owner for trusting us with his care. Rusty’s journey is proof that with the right steps, older pets with heart disease can still lead a comfortable, happy life—and get the treatments they need to feel their very best. 🐾❤️

🐾 Meet Kolbe, the dog with big ambitions! 🐶

Kolbe heard we are hiring for an experienced technician and he decided he would show us how he's perfect for the job! 😆💼 Was he trying to help with the paperwork? No. Was he searching for the treat jar? Definitely. 🦴👀

When we gave him his job responsibilities he straight-up gave us a look like, “I’m actually here for the treats! 😎

Kolbe's new title? Treat Consultant.

🛁🫧 Happy National Bubble Bath Day!🫧 🛁

It’s the one day a year we pretend our dogs love bath time. Spoiler alert: They don’t. 😂

🐕 Dogs and Baths:

Some dogs think the tub is a portal to another dimension.
Others act like you’re washing away all their dignity along with the dirt.
And then there are the rare unicorns who actually enjoy bubble baths (probably because they think the bubbles are snacks).
Let’s be real, though—by the time the bath is done, we’re just as wet as they are, and the bathroom looks like a hurricane hit. 🌀

So, celebrate today by giving your pup a spa day they didn’t ask for but definitely need. And don’t forget the post-bath zoomies—that’s where the real fun begins!
***BE SURE TO USE A SOAP/SHAMPOO SPECIFICALLY FOR PETS***
We have some great Soap free Shampoo (that smells good!) for purchase in clinic. 🫧🫧🫧
Share your soggy doggy or kitty photos in the comments—we promise we won’t laugh (much). 🐕🐈

TAKE DOWN TUESDAY!
RIP to the oldest Publix in Jax on Southside and Old Baymeadows Rd which met its demise after 50 glorious years! We're mourning the loss of our convenient ( literally next door), go-to spot, where the staff knew us by name (thanks to our daily visits - those PubSubs and chicken tenders are irresistible, after all!). Now, we're eagerly awaiting the grand reopening of the shiny, new and improved Publix!

🐾💞 Happy National Cuddle Up Day! 💞🐾

Today’s the perfect excuse to snuggle up with your favorite furry friend… though let’s be honest, they’ve probably already claimed your favorite blanket, your couch, and your heart. ❤️

🐕 Dogs: The enthusiastic snugglers who think “personal space” is just a human myth. Bonus points if they weigh 80 pounds and still think they’re a lap dog.

🐈 Cats: The masters of selective cuddling. They’ll cuddle when they want, where they want—and on their terms. (Which may or may not include your keyboard right now.)

No matter how your pet shows their love, today’s the day to bask in the warmth of their fluffy companionship. And if your pets aren’t the cuddling type? Well, there’s always corporal cuddling! 🤣😁
Share your best cuddle moments in the comments—we’d love to see your snuggly sidekicks in action! 🐾📸

🌴🐾 Year-Round Protection for Your Pets in Florida 🐾🌴

Florida may be the Sunshine State, but it’s also paradise for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. These pesky critters thrive in our warm climate all year long, making year-round prevention a must for your furry friends!

🐕 Heartworms:

Spread by mosquitoes (which we have plenty of!), heartworm disease is dangerous and potentially fatal for dogs and cats.
Prevention is not only easier but much safer and more affordable than treatment.
🐾 Fleas and Ticks:

Fleas can infest your home faster than you can say "scratch!"
Ticks aren’t just gross—they can spread diseases like Lyme and Ehrlichiosis.
💊 Why Year-Round Prevention Matters:

There’s no “off-season” for these pests in Florida.
Gaps in prevention leave your pets vulnerable, even in the cooler months.
Protecting your pets year-round keeps them healthy, comfortable, and itch-free!
Talk to us about the best prevention options for your pets—because nothing says “I love you” like protecting them from pests and parasites!
