Don’t forget to tune in today to 104.5 FM WOKV for the special Care-a-Thon event dedicated to raising funds for the Child Cancer Fund. It is a worthy cause that could use your support. Perhaps you might even have the chance to speak with Dr. Williams later this afternoon over the phone when you consider making a donation, as she will be volunteering her time answering phones during the event. Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.

On August 22-23rd tune in to 104.5FM WOKV for the 10th annual Care-a-Thon and delve into the world of giving back. Let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of supporting the Child Cancer Fund, a cause close to our hearts. In a heartwarming twist, did you know that our very own Dr. Williams, has a personal connection to this cause? Her daughter, Victoria, bravely fought and triumphed over childhood cancer, showcasing the strength and resilience that we all aspire to embody. It's truly inspiring to see Dr. Williams and Victoria come together to give back, as they graciously volunteer their time for the upcoming Care-a-Thon on Thursday. Their dedication and unwavering commitment to helping those in need serve as a reminder that together, we can make a difference in the lives of others. So mark your calendars, spread the word, and let's all come together to support the Child Cancer Fund during this special event. In a world filled with uncertainty, let's choose kindness, compassion, and generosity to light the way for those in need.

Your kids aren’t the only ones who might need extra TLC as back-to-school season kicks in. After spending the summer with their little human buddies, your dog now has to adjust to more hours alone. And when the kids are home, homework might take priority over fetch, which can leave your pup feeling a bit down.
If your dog starts misbehaving or acting out, remember: patience and grace are key. You’re not a terrible pet parent if things don’t go perfectly.
Here are a few tips to help ease the transition for both your dog and yourself:

🐶Practice Your Morning Routine
If you have a bit of time before school starts, begin introducing your dog to the new schedule now. Adjusting your dog’s routine—like walk and feed times—before the school year begins. This way, on the hectic first day, your dog won’t face another big change.
🐶Practice Leaving Your Dog
It’s a good idea to start practicing leaving your dog alone, especially if they’ve struggled with separation anxiety or haven’t been alone much over the summer. Listen from outside or use a we**am to observe their reaction. Introducing short departures in the weeks leading up to the changes. Gradually extend the time you’re away, but always return before your dog shows signs of panic. The goal is to keep the experience positive and stress-free.
🐶Monitor Your Dog’s Behavior
When the school year begins, watch for any changes in your dog’s behavior. Obvious signs of anxiety might include barking, destructiveness, or accidents in the house. However, subtler signs like lethargy, trembling, or changes in appetite are also important to note.
If you observe any of these behaviors or if your dog seems off, please call our office for advice.
🐶Create a Safe Space for Your Dog
Even if your dog has free run of the house while you’re away, it’s crucial to set up a cozy, secure spot just for them. If your dog is especially attached to the kids, consider leaving behind a couple of their old T-shirts (as long as they don’t chew them!) so your pup can snuggle with their scent.
🐶Stay Calm During Departures and Returns
Leaving your furry friend can be hard, but experts advise against making a big fuss with hugs and drama when you leave. Overloading your dog with emotions might increase their stress. Instead, keep departures low-key and calm. The same goes for returns—try to avoid creating a big emotional event when you come back.
🐶Rely on Food and Toys
For many dogs, a Kong toy stuffed with peanut butter or a tasty doggy treat can make being alone a bit easier. Freezing the Kong beforehand can provide extra entertainment as your dog works to get every last bit of the treat.
Give the toy to your pup a few minutes before you leave so they don’t start associating it with your immediate departure.
🐶Make Time for Your Dog
As the school year gets busy, try to carve out quality time for your dog. Long walks, playtime, and teaching new tricks or commands are great ways to keep your pup engaged and happy.

Introducing Buck, a lively 14-week-old Labrador Retriever who didn't fail to impress with his remarkable listening skills. On a recent visit to our clinic, Buck confidently approached the scale, eagerly awaiting his turn to be weighed. With a wag of his tail, he remained still as our skilled technician Sara carefully recorded his weight before Dr. Williams administerd his scheduled puppy vaccines. It's evident that Buck is a well-behaved and obedient companion, showcasing his exemplary behavior at such a young age. Let's give a round of applause for this exceptional and well-mannered pup! 👏👏👏👏

This 9 wk old cutie pie had to make a trip to the ER after feasting on dirt. Yup, you read that right…DIRT!
He had his first visit to Deerwood Animal Clinic to follow up from that unexpected night.
Luckily for him, and his worried owner, Raven George is feeling much better and a diet change has definitely been recommended!

Hey there! If your furry friend gets anxious or scared of loud noises, here are the "official" times for fireworks (but we all know they don't always stick to those, right? 😉). If your pet needs medication, like for thunderstorms or something, or if you're thinking about using pheromone collars, please make sure to give them to your pet BEFORE the fireworks start. Also, just a heads up, we'll be closing tomorrow at 5 pm. If your pet needs any meds, please give us a text or call before noon. Thanks a bunch!
