HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

With the New Year approaching, we all know that fireworks will be part of the big celebration. Here are some tips on how to keep your pets safe and calm during this time:

- Keep your pets indoors! Even calm pets can get spooked by fireworks.
- Put them in a safe place! Move them to a room where they can be comfortable and turn on the TV or music and cover the windows to drown out the noise.
- Make sure to have the proper collar with identification tags on them. Microchipping your pet is a huge plus!
- Give them a new toy or treat to help keep their mind off the noise.
- Exercise prior to fireworks starting can help wear your pets out so that they may sleep through all of the noise.
- Finally, if none of these seem to work, call your pet's veterinarian to see if a calming medication can be prescribed.

If you already know that your pet does not do well during this time of the year and medications are needed, it is recommened to call at least 3 days prior to get medications filled.

As a reminder, we will not be open this Saturday to fill any medications if they are needed so please give us a call today!

Dear Valued Clients,

Our groomer, Mary, has decided to retire from grooming. We are very excited for her and all that this next chapter of her life will bring. We will greatly miss her and we know our clients and patients will as well. Please join us in wishing her the best of luck in her future endeavors!

At this time we have decided to discontinue grooming services at Miramar Animal Hospital. It has been our pleasure to offer grooming services for our patients and we will miss seeing all their freshly pampered faces!

We believe that it is in the best interest of our patients and clients to focus solely on the medical aspect of our veterinary practice. It is our goal to provide the best patient care and look forward to caring for your pets for years to come.

As always, we appreciate your understanding and support. We look forward to seeing you at your pet’s next appointment.

-Your friends at Miramar Animal Hospital

1. Focus on Their Nutrition - High protein sources, such as chicken, fish and eggs, help build muscle and a healthy coat. Fruits and vegetables are also a great source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are needed for a well-functioning immune system.

10/10/2022

4. Dental Care - Assuring that your cat or dog has proper dental care with also extend your pet's health and quality of life. Check your pet's mouth // gums should be a healthy, pink color and teeth should look clean without signs of brown tartar. Use a special dog toothbrush or piece of soft gauze, and massage the teeth or gums. Once your dog gets used to this, you will be able to brush their teeth two or three times weekly as part of a regular routine. If brushing your pet's teeth is unsuccessful at home, dentals can be scheduled at least once a year to insure healthy teeth and gums.

10/10/2022

5. Brush Their Fur and Grooming - Whether your pet has long or short fur, regular brushing should be done every few days if possible. The reason for this is to remove any dead hair and it also distributes natural oils for a clean, healthy coat while also stimulating the skin. This is also a great time to bond more with your pet. Grooming is also a big part of your pet’s wellness. bathing your pets every 2-3 months is ideal unless you noticed that your pet is very dirty or smelly. Also make sure to use the proper shampoo for your pet’s skin and coat, no harsh chemicals. Putting cotton balls in your pets’ ears during bath time will also reduce the risk of water getting into their ears and causing a potential infection.

10/10/2022

6. Nail Trimmings - Some pet parents are hesitant on trimming their own pet's nails but if you’re willing to accept this challenge on your own, just make sure to have a comfortable pair of nail trimmers for your hands. Nail overgrowth can be uncomfortable. A good way to tell if a nail trim is due is to listen out for any "clicking" as they walk on hard surfaces. Their nails grow in a curve so excessive lengths of the nails can cause the toes to splay as they walk.

10/10/2022

8. Quality Time - Happiness is an important component in your dog's overall wellness, so don't underestimate the benefit of spending time with your best canine or feline friend. Left alone without companionship or mental stimulation, animals can become depressed, act out in destructive ways, or even become lethargic. Your pet is a family member. Interact with them // talking, walking, playing together, stroking, and giving the affection and attention they so deserve. Your dog and cat will benefit and reward you with unconditional love.
