Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time to show love to everyone in your life, including your pets! However, it’s important to be cautious with traditional Valentine’s candies around pets, especially chocolate, which can be toxic to dogs and cats.

Here are some fun and safe ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your furry friends:

Pet-Safe Treats: Choose pet-friendly treats instead of human candy. You can find special Valentine’s-themed treats at pet stores.

Gifts: Consider giving your pet a new toy, a cozy bed, or a cute Valentine ’s-themed outfit.

Quality Time: Spend extra time with your pet. Go for a long walk, play their favorite game, or just cuddle up together.

Special Meal: Prepare a special meal for your pet. Make sure it’s something they love and is safe for them to eat.

Big problems can hide below the surface. Oral infections, also called periodontitis, are among the most common diseases seen in pets and are among the least expensive to treat. Prompt treatment will not only relieve pain, but could also help prevent kidney, heart, liver, and gastrointestinal infections seen with chronic oral infections.

🐾🌡️ What to Do with Hypothermic Animals: A Guide for Wildlife Helpers 🌡️🐾

With the frigid temperatures we are currently experiencing, encountering a hypothermic animal can be a critical situation, and knowing how to respond can make a difference in their survival.

1) Do NOT feed

2) Do NOT submerse in water.

3) Bring them inside out of the weather into a quiet, warm, dark location

4) Stroke them to stimulate blood flow.

5) Get them to a vet as soon as possible.

If you see an animal frozen to the ground, do not attempt to pick it up! Instead get LUKEWARM water and pour it around and under the animal. Once free, immediately dry the animal and wrap in a dry towel. Seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Please remember feeding and warming a hypothermic animal too rapidly can be harmful and may lead to serious complications. It's important to warm them gradually and provide nourishment slowly to avoid overwhelming their system.

If you need animal help, call us at 904-779-5569 and leave a message. We check messages hourly, 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week!

Road conditions may be hazardous, making transporting wildlife dangerous. Text a picture of the animal to your rehabber first so they can determine the best course of action to take to ensure everyone's safety.

‼️ Remember, none of our animals are pets and it is illegal in Florida to own wildlife without proper permitting. ‼️
