12-year-old Carnation arrived at JHS as a lost pet, and from the beginning we knew she was something special. Carnation had a joyful, loving personality and she quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite. We knew she had joy to spare - and she had to share it!

Carnation joined our Dog Day Out program and became friends with all her adventure partners. She participated in JHS Kids Camp and was so happy there - her smile was huge when hanging out with kiddos! 🥰

Weeks went by, and then the most incredible thing happened... Carnation's mom came to JHS! 😮

We learned that Carnation had been missing from her family for several months. Her mom was overjoyed to be reunited with her beautiful girl. She was even more grateful to hear of all the fun Carnation had while she was with us. ❤️

We thought we knew what Carnation's joy looked like - but nothing compared to the look in her eyes when she was back in her mom's arms. 🥹

for our incredible community of foster families! Volunteer foster families help JHS by providing temporary, in-home care to JHS animals who are underage, sick, injured, in need of socialization, or simply in need of a break from the shelter. Last weekend, local NOC Rucks members carried more than 1 TON (literally!) of donations to JHS. That's right - these folks carried these donations on their backs to our doors, and we were absolutely blown away - both by their physical strength, and their generosity! 💪

NOC Rucks members then spent the morning giving all the pups at JHS long walks and making enrichment items. 🐕 AND, on top of all that, 2 volunteers adopted dogs the same day! 🤩

We are so grateful to NOC Rucks for donating their time (and their muscles!) to the animals at JHS. 💚 Want to get in on the generosity? We had such a fun time at Deck the Howls last year, we're bringing it back this year! ❄️🐾

JHS is joining dozens of animal shelters across the country to celebrate the holiday season by “decking the howls” on Friday, December 13, from 5-7pm!

Families are invited to spend a festive PAW-liday evening with our pets featuring:

📖The opportunity to get cozy and read holiday stories to the dogs and cats at JHS (bring your favorite holiday book or borrow one of ours!)
🦴Decorating dog cookies
☃️Designing holiday cards for the pets
🎄Crafting animal ornaments
🎁“Gift wrapping” special toys for the cats
💡Competing in animal trivia
🎟️Participating in a one-of-a-kind raffle

This tiny kitten arrived at the Jacksonville Humane Society needing a little extra love. He was having trouble eating and gaining weight, and his health was declining. We weren't sure if he was going to make it. Until... A-Okay lifted his small head and started to eat.
