Join JHS for a TEE-rific ⛳ weekend with THE PLAYERS Championship!

This weekend THE PLAYERS Championship is hosting a fun-filled event (including FREE adoptions) at JHS!

Visit our Adoption Center at 8464 Beach Blvd this Friday, January 31, though Sunday, February 2, to adopt a new family member for free* and enjoy tasty treats from Sips Ahoy Food Truck. Plus, all adopters will receive free swag for their new furry friend all courtesy of THE PLAYERS. 💙

Join the Jacksonville Humane Society at PetSmart today for a fun, feline adoption event! 🐈💚 JHS is offering half price cat and kitten adoptions at the PetSmart store located in St. Johns Town Center today, January 25, from 10am - 3pm! Adoption fees for adult cats are reduced to $25 and adoption fees for kittens are reduced to $50. Stop by and meet some of our ❄️cool❄️ cats and kittens!

*$20 city licensing fee may apply, and a cat carrier is required at the time of adoption.

Today is National Change a Pet's Life Day! 🎉🐾 YOU can be the change in the lives of pets in need – including dogs like Petunia. Petunia, a 1-year-old dog, was found injured and alone after being hit by a car. A kind community member stopped to help and rushed her to JHS for care. ❤️‍🩹

It was obvious Petunia's leg was broken, and our team jumped right to work with a lifesaving surgery to remove her leg. A volunteer generously fostered Petunia while she recovered from surgery and gained the strength she needed to find a loving home.

A few weeks later, Petunia - now a confident tripod! - returned to JHS and found a new family to hop into her next chapter in life with!

Petunia's life was changed thanks to the support of countless folks in our community. Your donations to JHS made it possible for Petunia to:

🧡 Recover from surgery in a foster home and gain confidence.
💚 Receive medical care such as a lifesaving leg amputation, vaccines, and parasite treatment.

JHS friends, meet OSCAR. This very special boy would love to tell you about himself, and for you to help him find a new family. ❤️

"Hi, I'm Oscar! I am 8-years-young and would love to have a family to call my own. I know I look a little different than other dogs - when I met the nice people at JHS I had a jaw injury and they didn't know if I would make it. Thankfully, they took a chance on me and now I'm feeling AMAZING!

I recently spent some time in an awesome foster home and they taught me that I can be just like any other dog. 🥹 I love to play, snuggle, and hang out with kiddos. I'll be honest... I will probably need help from doctors in the future so that I can stay my silly, happy self. I don't have any teeth, and my tongue flops out, and I'm a messy eater. BUT, I'll always say "Thank you for loving me!" with cuddles and kisses.

I'm so grateful for everyone who has helped me so far, but I would love to take on the future with a family. Plus, the puppies around me are yappers, and I'm ready to go home. Could you help a silly-looking wiener dog out? You can find me at JHS - I'm the handsome one in a sweater. 😉"

🚨 ADJUSTED HOURS: Due to incoming winter weather, JHS will have a delayed opening tomorrow, January 22. ❄️ Our Adoption Center and Pet Help Center will open at 1pm.

The pets at JHS are being cared for by a small crew of staff and volunteers - some of whom have decided pets like Bernard need a scarf. 😆❤️

Registration is now open for our next camp for kids on Monday, February 17! 🐾

Animal enthusiasts in grades 3-8 are invited to spend "Pawsident's Day" at JHS! We'll become behavior detectives and learn all about animal body language, craft paw-triotic treats for the dogs, and even help some residents of JHS with their paw-sidential campaign posters. And, of course, we'll have the opportunity to meet a new furry friend or two. 🐶🐱

🎊Meet JHS's Winter 2025 Kind Kid: Sabal!🎊

We're kicking off our new seasonal blog series by celebrating Sabal, a 7th grader who has been inspiring us since 2021 with her acts of kindness and generosity towards the pets at the Jacksonville Humane Society.

Sabal is an active member of our Pawsitive Reading program and regularly bakes and donates homemade treats for the pups at JHS. She has also spent time promoting some of our animals for adoption and has even treated a couple JHS pups to Dog Day Out field trips with her family! 🐶

Sabal's dedication to helping the pets at JHS shows how one person's compassion can make a world of difference, no matter their age! 🧡💚

It's the first holiday weekend of the year, and you know what that means - time to adopt a new friend! 😍

All adoptions at JHS are $20 or less this weekend in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There are more than 100 animals at our shelter who would love to be home with their new families by the end of the weekend. PLUS, Animal Care & Protective Services will be at JHS on Monday, January 20, with additional dogs available to adopt! ❤️

Hopper has been busy in the office this week working on ideas to get new volunteers to JHS - AKA, for him and his friends to get more treats! 😉

After some brainstorming, we are thrilled to introduce…. First Saturday Group Dog Walks! 🐕‍🦺🎉

First Saturday Group Dog Walks is a new JHS volunteer program open to ALL members of the public, not just current JHS volunteers. Getting involved is simple:

1️⃣ Clear your calendar for the first Saturday morning of each month. Why would you NOT want to come hang with some JHS pups?!

3️⃣ Pat yourself on the back, get excited, and start practicing those treat-handing skills!

📣 Calling all high school students in need of volunteer hours! Registration just opened up for our next High School Service Day on Saturday, February 1!

Students in grades 9-12 can join us from 11-3 to complete service projects benefiting the pets at JHS while learning about how stress can impact animals and what we can do to help. We'll also get to meet a new furry friend or two! 🐾

All participants will earn 4 hours of volunteer service.
