BRRR, it’s cold out there, Jacksonville! 🥶 Take it from our friend Arthur, the best way to brave the cold is with your favorite blanket… and with him by your side!

Arthur is a 10 year old cat who wants nothing more than a lap to cuddle on. He can often be found sitting on a bench near the window waiting to meet new friends, and is always grateful when someone comes to pet him and say hello. ❤️

What else makes him unique? Arthur has a crimped ear, his tongue always sticks out, and he has FIV, or feline immunodeficiency virus.

Cats with FIV can live long, happy lives (even with other cat friends around!) and Arthur is waiting to share his love with a family. He’d love for you to come see him in Cat Group Room 1 at JHS - be prepared to get LOTS of head nudges and snuggles.

Meet Pacer - Jacksonville's Cutest Pet of 2025! 🥳

Pacer, the 13-year-old shop dog at Gotham City Limit, was the grand prize winner of our fifth annual Jacksonville's Cutest Pet photo contest, sponsored by Subaru Jacksonville! Pacer was adopted at JHS as a puppy back in 2011 and has spent his life spreading joy throughout the city.

Throughout the month of January, Pacer will appear on Clear Channel Outdoor digital billboards across Jacksonville. Has anyone spotted him yet? Let us know!

With the new year comes exciting news: after 13 incredible years, our CEO Denise Deisler is retiring.

Denise joined JHS at a pivotal moment, helping to transform Jacksonville into a no-kill city and leading the charge to build our state-of-the-art facility. Once those goals were achieved, she asked, “What’s next?”—and launched programs that have improved lifesaving for pets statewide. Denise’s leadership, innovation, and dedication have left an indelible mark, and we’re endlessly grateful for her mentorship, vision, and friendship. While stepping down as CEO, Denise will stay on for one year as an executive advisor to support the transition.

Stepping into the CEO role is Lawrence Nicolas, who joined JHS in 2021 as COO/President. Lawrence joins us with more than 15 years of experience in our field, working for Best Friends Animal Society, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, and Denver Dumb Friends League before joining JHS. Lawrence brings a wealth of expertise and a deep passion for animal welfare.

Friends... Piper JUST found her reindeer ears. 🤦😫 She's really been milking her disappointment. She demands we tuck her in, give her extra treats, and call her a good girl at least 3 more times than every other dog. Can someone reassure Piper that Santa was able to deliver presents without her? Or better yet, come ADOPT HER at JHS? We can't submit to her cuteness much longer! 😉❤️
