🐾🎄Hello all you wonderful pet parents! 🐾🎄

As we dive into the joyous holiday season, it's time to think about what tasty treats we'll be sharing with our families. But let's not forget about our four-legged family members! While it might be tempting to sneak our pets a little bit of our festive feast, it's crucial to remember that not all human foods are safe for dogs.

🐶🍽️ Here is a quick guide to help you navigate what foods your furry friends can and cannot eat:

✔️ Safe Foods:
🥕Carrots: These are a great low-calorie snack for dogs. They are high in fiber and vitamin A while being low in calories.
🍏Apples: Slice these up and remove the seeds for a sweet and crunchy treat packed with vitamins A and C.
🍗Chicken: Cooked, plain chicken is a great protein source for dogs.
🥦Green Beans: Either cooked or raw (but not canned ones with added salt), green beans are filled with vitamins and minerals, and they're also packed with fiber which is good for your dog's digestive system.

❌ Unsafe Foods:
🍫Chocolate: This is a big no-no as it contains theobromine which is toxic to dogs and can cause serious health issues.
🍇Grapes and Raisins: These can cause kidney failure in dogs, even in small amounts.
🌰Nuts: Many types of nuts, including macadamia and walnuts, are dangerous for dogs and can lead to vomiting, fever, and even seizures.
Remember, the best way to ensure your pet's safety is to stick to their regular diet and consult your vet if you have any doubts. Let's keep our furry friends safe, healthy, and happy this holiday season! 🎅🐕

Please share this post to spread awareness and keep all our furry friends safe!

Stay safe and have a pawsome holiday season, everyone🥳🎉🎄

📣 ATTENTION DOG OWNERS 🐾

Greetings from all of us here at Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic. We hope this message finds you and your four-legged friends in good health.

We wanted to share an urgent update regarding the health of our beloved canine companions. There has been a recent surge in cases of respiratory illnesses in dogs within Northern California and Nevada.

Symptoms to watch for include:

Coughing or gagging
Sneezing
Runny nose and/or watery eyes
Difficulty breathing
Reduced appetite
Lethargy

If your pet is showing any of these symptoms, please contact us immediately.

To ensure your pets' wellbeing, we recommend that you avoid areas with heavy dog traffic such as dog parks, pet stores, and other places where dogs frequently gather. We understand the impact this may have on your pet's social activities, but we believe it's a necessary precaution to curb the spread of these illnesses.

We also strongly encourage you to update your pets' respiratory vaccines. Vaccination is a key defense against many diseases and is especially crucial during this time.

To make an appointment for vaccinations or if you have any concerns about your pet's health, please call us at (530) 253-3190.

Please remember, the health and safety of your pets are our top priority. Together, let's ensure they remain healthy and happy.

Stay safe, everyone! And give your furry friends an extra hug from all of us here at Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic. 🐶❤️

Keeping our DOGS Safe with Fishing Season upon us!
The Lassen Sportsman’s Club Junior Fishing Derby will be held this summer and soon the creeks will be open, then we start enjoying the many lakes around us.
We want to remind all our pet parents of the dangers of our dogs ingesting RAW fish in our area. Dog owners in northern California are reminded to take precautions to protect their pets from Salmon Poisoning Disease by disposing of carcasses and internal organs after cleaning fish in a safe manner and monitoring pet’s off leash when around bodies of water, as they love to find the dead fish along the banks.
Salmon Poisoning Disease is a potentially fatal condition seen only in dogs after they eat certain types of raw or cold smoked fish like trout and salmon that are infected with a bacteria- organism, Neorickettsia helminthoeca, which is transmitted by the parasitic flatworm (or “fluke”) Nanophyetes salmincola. According to the CDFW, Nanophyetes salmincola occurs naturally in waters of northern California and most of the north state can be considered the native habitat for the fluke.
If your dog has eaten or is suspected of eating raw fish, watch for signs of the disease. (The parasite cannot survive in cooked fish.) Symptoms may include some or all of the following: a rise in body temperature, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, listlessness and/or rapid weight loss. If signs of the disease appear, promptly take your dog to a veterinarian. Salmon Poisoning Disease is treatable if caught in time. If untreated, death usually occurs within two weeks of eating the infected fish. Without treatment, ninety percent of dogs showing symptoms die.
While all fish caught or originating from streams in northern California could potentially be infected, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) cautions that trout stocked in some waters in CDFW’s North Central Region are more likely to be infected with the flukes that cause Salmon Poisoning Disease. Thompson Peak Vet Clinic has confirmed cases of Salmon Poisoning Disease from fish ingested from our local streams and lakes.
Have fun this summer but keep them safe!!

Elizabeth (Liz) has only been with us for 7 mo but is Dr Wayne’s right hand as a Large Animal Tech. I had to post both pics because she is super with the horses 🐴 but is willing to tackle anything ❤️. Liz was born and raised in Adin. Homeschooled and attending Shasta College part time. She is still very involved in showing sheep and mentors the younger groups. She has 4 legged children Bear a blue healer, Marty a Qtr Horse , Solomon an Arabian and a new kitty Binx. She is always willing to learn new skills in both large and small animal vet med. Thank you for joining our team.

Katie F. Is currently an Assistant Vet Tecnician but has been working towards her RVT through an online school. She originally was a music major but thanks to her dog Kimber her interest switched to Vet Medicine. Her road has been a long one as a student due to life events and motherhood but that is what is great about the online option. She is determined to get there and working at the clinic gives her the hands on skills needed for that dream to become reality. She is supported by her family husband Brandan, and two beautiful daughters Hailey and Lyla. They have 2 dogs Kimber and Charlie and 4 Chickens that keep their house busy. She is always the sweet smile greeting those pets and clients in the rooms.

Kattie B. Our RVT. 🐾
Kattie grew up in Lodi and after working for 3 years in a pet store decided with her love of animals to attend Vet Tech School in Stockton. She came on board Thompson Peak Vet 1 1/2 years ago and passed her Veterinary Board Certification soon after. She lives in Janesville with her extended family, her very loved dog Jinx, a new monster of a kitten Damian, and a betta fish Kai that has it’s own snail named Butler. We are glad she joined our team and her smile helps brighten our days.
