Happy National Puppy Day! ๐Ÿพ There's no better way to celebrate than with little 9-week-old Rosie feeling so much better! ๐ŸŽ‰

Just a day after her family brought her home, Rosie developed diarrhea, vomiting, was lethargic, and wouldn't eat...which ultimately caused low blood sugar. Thankfully, after spending a couple days with our emergency team receiving treatment (and getting lots of snuggles), Rosie was feeling spectacular and ready to go home! ๐Ÿฅณ

Please help us in wishing Rosie a very HAPPY NATIONAL PUPPY DAY and a big CONGRATULATIONS on finding her forever home!!!! Cheers to a long, healthy, and happy life together! โค

Rosie is pictured taking a nice, snuggly nap on Dr. Sibley and getting some cuddles from CVT, Katie.

Today we are giving a huge SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to one of our life-saving blood donors, Lady (pictured on the left). This sweetheart never hesitates to step in and help when another dog needs it! And just a couple weeks ago, Mika (pictured on the right) was in need of a blood transfusion.

Mika was transferred to our emergency department where critical care specialist, Dr. Jon Bach began treatment. Mika had severe anemia (low levels of healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body) and leukocytosis (elevated white blood cell count). She was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA), an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys red blood cells. Mika needed a blood transfusion immediately and Lady proudly stepped in to save her life. โค After several days of treatment, Mika was able to get back home to her loving family and they report she is doing great!

Please help us in sending a great big CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES to Mika on her recovery and a huge THANK YOU to Lady for helping save another life! ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ’•Adorable Snuggles Alert๐Ÿ’•

River is a 2-year-old sweetie who is being treated for chronic kidney disease with Dr. Bongard in our internal medicine department. As you can imagine, a 2-year-old pup gets a bit rambunctious and just wants to play during his appointments instead of allowing our medical team to do what is needed for his recheck.

Thankfully, River LOVES snuggling with our internal medicine CVT, Mara...so that's what he does during his appointments. While Dr. Bongard checks him over and gets all the information she needs to keep him healthy, River snuggles up with Mara and doesn't even realize he's at an appointment. โค

Some days you just need an emotional support toy...or in Annie's case, that's every day. This sweet girl shows up to every one of her oncology appointments with a different toy and she carries it everywhere she goes, not once dropping it. ๐Ÿ’• At Annie's most recent recheck appointment, our oncology team had the distinct pleasure of meeting her friend, Lamb Chop. ๐Ÿ‘

Daylight saving begins on Sunday and as much as we are all look forward to longer days and warmer weather, the loss of an hour can really throw everyone off...especially our routine-following pets. โฐ Here are a couple ways you can help your pet adjust to the change.

๐Ÿ“…Keep in mind your pets are creatures of habit and thrive on routine, they use daylight to tell them when it's time to eat, sleep, and wake up.

โฐIf you have to make adjustments to your petโ€™s routine, do it gradually. Slowly shift their feeding and walking times each day.

๐Ÿ’ŠTalk to your vet about when to administer your petโ€™s medications. Some medications, shifting administration an hour isn't a big deal, but for others you may need to adjust a bit slower.

๐ŸถConsistency is key! Once the change happens, stick to the new routine as much as possible!

๐ŸŒž More daylight means more time for fun activities! Use this opportunity for some extra fun with your pet!

๐Ÿ˜ƒBe patient and stay positive! It can be difficult to adjust to any change in routine, even more so for pets.

โคHappy Update Alert!โค

We LOVE receiving updates on our patients and Maisie's made us extra happy! ๐Ÿ™‚ At just 4-months-old this adorable girl developed a rapidly growing mass on her zygomatic arch (a part of the skull that protects the eye and provides structure to the face). Maisie was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma. After a CT scan showed there were no signs that the cancer had spread, Dr. Shiu with our oncology department, recommended immediate surgery with the intent to cure Maisie's cancer...and that's exactly what it did! ๐ŸŽ‰

Maisie's family let us know that she is enjoying life to the absolute fullest...not even noticing her permanent wink. She plays and rough houses with her housemate, Matilda and doesn't ever miss an opportunity to play in the snow...never missing a beat. And that is EXACTLY what we like to hear!

Please help us in sending a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Maisie and her family! ๐Ÿ’•

After being treated for an ear infection a week prior, Linus became very ill, tilting his head, and unable to walk. His family immediately brought him into our emergency department.

A CT scan (or computed tomography scan) of his head showed a chronic middle ear infection that was in both ears and caused inflammation that progressed into the membranes around his brain (meningoencephalitis). Linus was transferred to our internal medicine team where they performed a procedure where his middle ears were flushed out under anesthesia. The team then immediately started him on an an extended course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Linus improved immediately and was able to go home to his family the following day! ๐ŸŽ‰ We were thrilled to hear from his family that he is feeling great and that superb cat balance is back to normal! Way to go, Linus! ๐Ÿ’•

Our friends at Fetch Wisconsin Rescue rescued a mama and her puppies several weeks ago. Unfortunately, living the harsh life of a stray had caused the mom to not receive the proper nutrients to produce enough milk for her puppies. The puppies were malnourished and spent several days in the care of our emergency team receiving treatment and learning how to bottlefeed.

We recently received an update from Fetch showing how well the puppies continue to bottlefeed and letting us know that their weight continues to increase. ๐ŸŽ‰ Way to go little ones! Cheers to a long, healthy, and happy life! โค

Thank you, Fetch for all you do to help pets find their people and live wonderful lives full of love and happiness.

If you're looking to add a furry friend to your family, please visit: https://fetchwi.org. These little sweeties won't be available for adoption for a few more weeks, but you can keep an eye out for them, or see all of the other pets looking for their forever homes. ๐Ÿ’•

Last week Barkley and his family celebrated him being in remission from lymphoma for 4 AMAZING YEARS!!!!! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ We were honored and thrilled when they visited our oncology department and let us join in the celebration...and give some well deserved snuggles! ๐ŸŽ‰

Barkley began chemotherapy treatment with our oncology department immediately after his lymphoma diagnosis in September of 2020. We are ecstatic to report that he has been in remission since completing treatment the following February! Barkley's mom, Dr. Mia Hospel, Founding Veterinarian of Passion for Paws Veterinary Clinic and Boarding/Daycare Facility let us know that Barkley is continuing to live life to the absolute fullest and is feeling great! ๐Ÿ’•

Congratulations, Barkley! We are so incredibly happy for you and your family! And, thank you for letting us take part in celebrating this tremendous milestone. โค
