FRIDAY FURKID:
Check out this beauty we call Lily! The beauty is not just on the outside, she loves with her whole heart and soul. Lily is also a lot of fun; she’s funny; she’s loving and snuggly; loves to chase a tennis ball, then chew on it and then will bring it back to you. Sometimes she will even give it back for you to throw all over again! Lily is around a year and a half old and weighs a trim 32 lbs.

Instead of guessing the X-ray this week, we decided to showcase our Ultrasound capabilities. We have brand new machines at both our Ellijay and Jasper locations. Dr. Skrobot has undergone extensive advanced training and can perform referral-based ultrasounds that can be sent to board-certified specialists for interpretation. She is the only vet in North Georgia capable of full cardiac ultrasounds that get sent to cardiologists for pets with heart disease! In this video, we can see just how detailed the image is of a puppy fetus. Our machine is able to measure the puppy and get a very accurate estimate of age. This can help give an accurate “due-date”. Reach out to our office if you have any additional questions!

What got your first? The eyes or that adorable underbite? S***a (Show-tah) has
got a personality to match that cuteness. It’s going to take a DNA test to figure
out this blend of cuteness. We’re thinking that there is a bit of doxie. Who
cares? He is around 9 months old, 12 #, playful, snuggly, completely vetted
(including chipped) and ready for his forever and ever home!

Tonight Dr. Lewis was invited by the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association to speak to Veterinary students at UGA. The students got to talk with Dr. Lewis and learn about Wayside and all it has to offer being a mixed-animal hospital. They were also able to ask questions and get an inside knowledge on the world of veterinary medicine from an ownership side. It was a great night and we look forward to many more nights talking with future Veterinarians!

Meet our staff Monday!! Meet Jaspers manager, Keisha! Keisha originally joined our team as a veterinary assistant in 2005; but now is a manager at our Jasper location. Keisha chose this profession due to her passion for helping animals. Even as a child she was always trying to fix her pets; although her pets might disagree on younger years of “fixing skills”. Keisha’s favorite breed are “mutts” because they always show unconditional love. She has a soft spot for Pitbulls because she feels she can relate to them as they are both often misunderstood. However, she must confess deep in her heart she is a cat person because they always love no matter what. In her spare time, she enjoys playing in the mud! Keisha and her husband Michael have been married since 2009 and have twin girls, Jenna and Olivia who always keep them on their toes! They have several cats, a dog named Sunshine, and a few turtles.

Friday FURKID:

Are you able to resist that smile? How could so much cuteness and fun be all
wrapped up in only 23 pounds? Biscute, the little pug mix, enjoys zoomies in a
fenced-in area and will chase a ball AND even return it to you (when he’s ready!).
He’s a great little leash walker; a bit intimidated by large dogs and will walk a
wide berth to avoid being close.

This is Hank and he’s up for adoption at the Gilmer County Animal Shelter. Hank had a swelling on his leg and when we x-rayed him, this is what we found. Can you figure it out? Hank is also being treated for Heartworms, which is being covered by Ellijay Paws in Need. If you’d like to adopt him talk to the Shelter!

Meet our Staff Monday! Since we have recently expanded Wayside to Ellijay, our staff has gotten larger! Every Monday we are going to introduce a new staff member! For the first few weeks we are going to introduce our managers, then get into our technicians! For today’s post, meet Torrie, or “Mama T” as all of our staff calls her! Torrie is the manager of our Foothills location!

Torrie joined our team as a Receptionist in August of 1995! She became our Receptionist Team Coordinator in 2022. She has always been a nurturer (thus her nick name Mama Torrie). Therefore, it was only natural she find the idea of helping care for innocent animals very appealing. While Torrie does love all animals she has a soft spot for wire haired breads (hello scruffy dog!)

A fun fact about Torrie is that in high school she wanted to professional chef. However, that quickly changed upon visiting a school and she found out she had to wear long sleeves and chef’s hats in a hot kitchen!

Torrie resides with her husband Benny (married since 1994). They share three sons, Seth, Connor, and Grant. She is possibly the only person to work in a vet office and not have any personal pets of her own.

Today at our Ellijay location we had a haul-in, horse float! Allie and Dr. Imke did the float in our specifically designed, large animal area. The horse, as seen in the photo, is in our horse-chute. This ensures that the horse is properly contained with no risk of injury to us or them! Allie, is one of our large and small animal technicians in Ellijay, and she also has completed her certification in equine dentistry, allowing her to do many of our equine floats/dental work. This section of our new location is great for any large animal that is able to be hauled-in. We have a specific drive thru area for trailers, that is covered, which then leads to a fully fenced in area for these large animals. If your horse is in need of dental work, make an appointment with Allie, or if you would like to schedule a haul-in or farm call visit with our large animal team, please call our Ellijay location at 706-534-9065.

Check out those baby blues! Meet Leif, a 4 ½ month old Kelpie/shepherd mix who loves everyone he meets. He weighs around 35 lbs and imagine he has some growing to do. He is lonesome and is waiting for his forever family to find him.

Welcome Ellijay’s own Dr. Samantha Mosley to Wayside Animal Hospital!!

Dr. Samantha Mosley is a born and raised Ellijay local who has always dreamed of returning home to serve her family and community. Growing up showing horses in the Saddle Club and having an extensive career in the Gilmer FFA chapter, her sights have been set on becoming the town’s next large animal veterinarian since her childhood.
She graduated from Berry College with a degree in pre-veterinary animal science, and focused on getting as much hands-on experience with the horse, dairy, beef, and sheep units as possible. Additionally, during her time at Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, she earned her CVA’s (Certified Veterinary Assistant) and worked for several years in the world of small animal medicine as well.
Samantha’s specific passions lie in farm calls, urgent care, pocket pets and backyard poultry. She is more than excited to be able to fulfil her dream and serve all patients of every shape and size in any corner of the community. Welcome home, she will arrive in May.

Delivering high quality medicine to both large and small animals with excellent customer service.

FRIDAY FIRKID:

Meet Coors, the wonder(ful) hound mix! Coors has had the luxury of a foster home where he has become a star pupil with all that has been taught to him. He is house trained, gets along well with the resident dogs, is great with kids and cats! Coors loves leash walks, has learned patience, and is your proverbially happy, huggy hound! If you are a hound person; you’re gonna love Coors!
