Dear community of Jasper, we are coming to you for aid once again. An individual driving a Honda Element (appearing to be gray or light blue in color) drove to the shelter early Sunday morning and, despite the shelter clearly being closed, tied a puppy to the door and drove off. Thankfully, he rattled the door handle and alerted a kennel maintenance staff member who was feeding and caring for the animals. He was able to find her abandoned and get her to safety before she was left to whatever elements came her way.
The City of Jasper Police Department is currently working on identifying the individual's license plate, which is visible in part of the video as he is backing out. However, if anyone recognizes this man, who appears to be a white male with tattoo sleeves and a beard, please reach out to the Police Department or the shelter to give us information! Dumping animals, even if it is at a shelter or rescue center is a CRIME under the State of Texas's animal cruelty laws. Not only is it inhumane to the animal, but it overburdens our already hard working staff members. One of our puppies, Marzipan, was displaced from her cage into a smaller one in order to make room for the new addition, meaning we are over capacity, and euthanasia is now imminent.
There are better ways to handle these things. Please, take the time to consider how your actions have a ripple effect. It is not as simple as just abandoning a stray because it is "not your dog" or leaving behind a pet because you "can't care for it any longer". There are resources and people always available to help out! Please stop and try before making the choice to irresponsibly leave an animal (especially a baby animal!) Where it may not get needed care in time! There have been many times where an animal has been left behind, and no one found it in time...
Edward loves to play!! He's always rolling around with a toy in his mouth, bouncy and ready to run! Even when he's waiting for his kennel to be cleaned, he's keeping himself entertained. He needs a boy or girl who will play with him and give him a home where he can keep being a sweet, playful puppy!! 🥺🥺

🐾Overflowing with puppy love and fur, ready to cuddle! ❤️🐾 We have 5 adorable Aussie puppies that were surrendered to us due to multiple calls from worried neighbors - that the puppies were repeatedly going into the street. The owners were unable to contain them in their yard so they're now safe with us and looking for their furever home & families! Typical adorable puppies - some are a little on the shyer side and some are more outgoing already. These little ones will go fast!

First and foremost, raising a puppy requires a lot of time, attention and effort on your part. Puppy training can be fun, but it takes a lot of patience and work. As your puppy develops, you'll need to consider things like puppy vaccinations, what to feed them and making sure you know how to potty train a puppy. If you're not prepared to put in the work (and have patience) with a puppy - please adopt an adult! We want to set our dogs & puppies up for success - some people just don't realize the work involved in having a puppy!

😢 PUPDATE 6.24.24 - Poor Cyrus! He's been at the shelter for two months and needs a rescue or adopter very soon! He was adopted but they returned him because he was just doing what big puppies do....tear stuff up - especially when they're not supervised!

No one would step forward to care for him, so the owner passed him over to the care of Animal Control. Cyrus is a wild puppy and he's already big! He will likely grow up to be a very big boy! Cyrus has a lot of energy to run, hike & play and will then save his last bit of energy to cuddle & snuggle with you! Will YOU be his hero?
