Proceeds are used to support area pets and homeless animals. Our animals are available for adoption through People Helping Paws Cat Rescue. Our fantastic staff is comprised completely of volunteers. Message us if you’d like to join the team! Please note, animals are never to be dropped off at our location. We are not a shelter. Our animals live in foster homes when not visiting the cafe. No one is
onsite during the hours we are closed to assist an animal. Admission is $5 per 30 minutes. Children are welcome; but a limit of two children per adult/legal guardian is enforced. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or have a signed waiver. Thursday night admission is adults over the age of 18 only.
As you shop Prime Day today and tomorrow, please pick up something from our list or anything you see on sale that you think we can use. Each item you donate gives us a little more money to spend on the cats. We go through supplies very quickly with so many cats in foster and here at the Cafe. We always appreciate your support! Very early on, the PHPCR volunteers realized just how special the cafe was. Obviously we had high hopes, both for our animals and our organization. But all the planning in the world doesn’t prepare you for that moment when you realize that what you’re doing is “SPECIAL special”, lol.
We had just opened and things were a whirlwind. Animals, patrons, so many new tasks to accomplish. We’re 100% volunteer, and we taught ourselves (and continue to learn!)
And one day, this family came in. The whole family was great, but what really stopped us in our tracks was the sweetest little boy, who came up to and rattled off a list of names of cats he wanted to visit.
And every cat he listed was one of our shy kitties, the kitties who were hiding, the kitties getting overlooked by people playing with our more social animals.
And those were the animals he spent time with.
Just an ordinary little boy with a heart holding space for the animals in our care who needed it the most.
And without the cafe, we would never have known, that that sweet kiddo was out in the world hoping for the best for our animals.
Every cat he visited that day has since found a home. But on the hardest days, as volunteers it’s moments like that which keep us going.
We’re looking for special hearts this weekend, as we do have some shyer cats in the lounge.
Even if it’s not to adopt, coming in with patience and hope and working with our animals get them closer to adoption.
And know that we, the volunteers see your patience and understanding. Our community continues to astound us with their grace and support.

What’s the cafe like? How does it work?
The cafe acts as our adoption center. Some cats live there full time, others come from foster homes for our open sessions. It’s $5 per person per 1/2 hour to come in. For our regular weekend sessions we recommend making a reservation, but you are also able to walk in, assuming we aren’t at capacity. The entry fee helps us pay the bills to keep the cafe open, but we keep them as low as we can. Some people come with adoption in mind, others come just to spend time with our cats. Others come because it’s such a fun experience for members of their families (We see you, grandparents!). You can interact with our animals cage free! For families with adoption in mind, this is a great way to meet our animals. It’s also a great chance to see how your family (kids especially) handle being around the animals. We know A LOT about our cats and their personalities, and we love educating the public about cats and their care. We are a licensed animal rescue and certified non profit, so any money you spend here keeps the doors open, as well as paying down our vet bills.
The best part is, our patrons are pretty fantastic. They come in happy and hopeful, ready to enjoy themselves. And our volunteers feel the same way, making the cafe a special place. We’ve managed to find homes for animals deemed unadoptable by traditional shelters. We get to educate people who care about animals and want to be great pet owners. And we get to be a haven for animal lovers who can’t have their own pets for one reason or another.
Every patron who visits helps us save more lives.

Breaking news! The cafe will be open from 11-4 on Thursday for the 4th of July. This is a family friendly open session that will replace our normal Fursday Night Live so all our volunteers can enjoy the fireworks with their families. We hope to see you Thursday!!!

In all seriousness, please don’t forget about us and all the awesome fur babies we have for you to meet. Shelters across the state have hit capacity and we have run out of fosters and kitten supplies. If you are considering adopting, now is the time, because every adoption frees up space in the cafe for the next needy animal. And if you aren’t wanting/able to adopt but still want to support us, please consider stopping by. It’s only $5 per person per half hour, and these fees are how we keep the doors to the cafe (our only adoption center) open!
Happy Monday Baristocats family!!!! Meet Rocky and River, two sweet boys from our Nature Kittens litter. These two are a hoot! Rocky is the ultimate snuggle bug, and River not only loves people but other cats! He keeps climbing into the crate with our Gemstones litter and we find him laying on top of them😂😂😍 These sweethearts grew up in foster care and they are extremely people oriented, friendly, and engaged. Two of the youngest kittens at the cafe currently, they would be a fabulous addition to ANY family. Please message us today about adopting them.

Ok. Maybe it’s a little more involved. But this is how to get started. Liking both pages is important because that’s how you’ll see whenever a new volunteer training meeting is coming up. Bonus points if you share the word with your friends. Come to a training meeting (no sign-up required). The initial meeting will cover our mission and goals, then segue onto the basic rules for volunteering. From there, we’ll partner you with senior volunteers to train you in different areas, like cat lounge, animal care, cafe, etc.
There are a TON of ways to help us save lives. Whether you can volunteer a little or a lot, as long as you can commit to our mission to provide the best care possible to the animals who rely on us, there’s a way to volunteer. Some volunteers will be great fits for the cafe. Some will decide to foster. Others will help with transport and the hundred other myriad of things that go into making Rescue possible.
18 and over can train for anything. Junior volunteers 15 and up can train to help wherever we can safely have minors helping and we need a parent to volunteer with you.
But it ALL starts with a training meeting. So it’s a good thing we have one coming up this week!

We are so excited to participate in JCMO Art Around Town Thursday, June 13. We will be open from 4-9 PM. Artist Lainie Strange with Surreal Studios will be set up selling her paintings. Whether you start with us (we’ll have maps and punch cards!) or end with us (because-cute kitties!) we hope to be your favorite stop!!!

Scared Not Feral- the day the Shamrocks came to Rescue.
Stella-Bella is soo pretty! This sweet Tuxie girl continues her search for a forever home! In the meantime however, she’d love to have a weekday foster home- basically, a temp family to pick her up from the cafe on Sunday evenings and drop her off at the start of the next weekend. It’s really the best of both worlds, as Stella gets a little more one on one time, but still gets to meet potential furever families! We have a ton of shyer kitties right now that need a lot of volunteer focus, you if you have ever considered fostering, Stella would be a fantastic “practice” Kitty, lol. We provide food, litter and vetting, you provide love (and hopefully some transportation though we could help with that too!). Message us today about Miss Stella!!
Nan is arguably the cafe’s shyest cat (we have some new ones giving her a run for her money right now, but since Nan has hung out on “her” shelf and refused to leave for quite a while now, I’d argue it’s her😅). So all the volunteers were THRILLED last night to see this!
