UPDATE: Still looking for a special home for Sasha! We had a couple of people express interest but unfortunately it didn't go anywhere and she's still with us. We would love to see her find a home in time for Christmas. She so deserves a life outside of the kennel. Thanks in advance for another round of sharing and helping spread the word!

Hey folks! We're asking for help with finding Miss Sasha, the German Shepherd, a new home. She was abandoned at the kennel after her owner turned down multiple opportunities to work directly with a local rescue. The owner was given referrals and links for more help, etc. and then decided to just shirk all responsibilities. And of course Sasha is the one to pay for it. I'll stop my rant there and share some info about her:

Sasha is about a year and a half old, intact, purebred, bi-color German Shepherd (no papers). She is all black with some tan "pencil marks" on her feet and lower legs. Sasha has been around other dogs, but we are unsure about young kids or cats. Sasha loves women, she makes friends very quickly, coming in easily for loving and snuggling. Her biggest concern is men, she is fearful. She will eventually warm up, but it can take her time to do so. It's not something that can be pushed or forced, she's just going to need however long it takes. If she goes to a family with a man/men, patience is required. That patience will be rewarded though! She is not a high energy or high drive dog but does have good food drive for training. She will bond quickly to her new BFF.

We aren't asking a fee for her, instead we'll have an adoption contract that she be spayed by the new owner (she is not a breeding prospect). We will include a training package (free) to help her settle in. Thanks in advance for sharing and feel free to DM me if interested. -Jessie

Hey Folks! We are approaching our peak boarding season and the time when we are most likely to see or hear about Upper Respiratory Viruses. For those of you already familiar - rest assured - we continue to monitor, quarantine buildings as needed and do everything we can to prevent spread. For those of you unfamiliar with these Viruses we have a page dedicated on our website: www.honeycreekpetresort.com as well as a handout at our desk. These detail how the viruses spread, vaccine issues, what we do, and what you can do to help too. If you have further questions or concerns, particularly about your own dog, please contact your regular Veterinarian.

Thank you - we look forward to seeing many of you for your dog's summer vacation!

UPDATE! The kind folks at Mo-Kan Border Collie Rescue (www.mokanbcrescue.org) stepped up to offer Prince a senior dog foster home while he waits for a new family. If you are interested in Prince, or know someone who may be, please contact the rescue directly to begin the application/screening process. Thank you to all those who responded and shared this post on behalf of this sweet boy!

Prince needs a senior dog friendly home! Prince and his original family have been clients of ours for years - he's boarding with us currently so we're helping them reach out to find a home.

When Prince's original family's living situation changed, they had to find a new home for him. Unfortunately, over time, that home neglected him - he became infested with fleas, had chewed his hair out and had a skin infection as a result. He had lost 15 pounds, weighing only in the mid 20's when he should be about 40 or so. Fortunately, his original family was notified so they could take him back and get him the much needed Vet Care to address this. Since they are still unable able to keep him, he's been boarding with us - we're getting him back in shape and continuing his meds. He looks and feels so much better physically and mentally.

Prince is about 13 years old, no major health issues, super sweet and friendly - loves getting petted and treats, of course! Even at his age, he's still all Border Collie :) - he's smart and alert. He has lived with dogs in the past with no issue, has not been exposed to cats. He has been around kids of all ages as well. He would likely do best in a home where he can chill out, help you in the yard and go for short walks and play for a little bit. Other adult dog(s) in the new home may be fine (puppies/young dogs may be a little much for him).

Please feel free to share and PM if you are interested or have questions for his owners. We'll pass along that info to them! Thanks everybody for helping find this sweet old boy a family and home where he can happily live out the rest of his time.

Hey Folks! Peak vacation season often also means kennel cough/upper respiratory season. More dogs gathering means better opportunities for dogs to share their “germs” be it with us, at the groomers, Vet Hospital, doggie daycare or dog park. We share everyone’s frustration, especially when there is no vaccine to cover all strains.

We are taking care of pets because we love them like you and do not want to see pets under our care getting sick. We understand that for some pet owners it can be hard to see past the fact that their pet visited somewhere and later showed signs of a virus. So, to that point, we wanted to address the common nature of these viruses and the painstaking steps we take to not contribute to the spread or expose other dogs. We also include in our information what we ask our clients to do to help as well – first thing on that list is: please do not assume we know there’s a virus going around - we ask clients to let us know if their dog shows signs of a virus after being here. Between the dogs shedding the viruses without showing any symptoms and the incubation time, it can be weeks before we see a dog showing symptoms while here.

There are several ways we try to educate and get information out:
• Website: we have a full page dedicated to the most common things that dogs can share when congregating, along with external links for more info. First on the page is upper respiratory viruses in detail: http://www.honeycreekpetresort.com/viruses.html
• Handouts: at the desk, where clients drop off and pick up pets, we leave a handout with the most pertinent information and website info. We make these available year-round since a virus can be brought out at any time.
• Pet Care Agreement: in our contract, we do address our commitment to take every reasonable precaution to keep dogs safe and healthy during their stay, but understand that we cannot control who or when someone may bring something contagious with them to the kennel.

We invite you to visit our website so that you have some preparedness for viruses, no matter where your dog goes. And as always, if you have questions or concerns`, please contact your regular Veterinarian.
