We had a blast with Pawlins this past Sunday at the annual Race to the Rescue 5K benefitting our local animal rescues! Big thanks to NolaGirl and Heavens Pets for putting on this amazing event! 🐾
🎀 This cutie pie is named Miya and she’s showing off how simple the freestyle libre application is with Dr. Wheeler! 💧 Miya’s pet-mama noticed new behavior at home: increased thirst and urination. Through further investigation with her vet, Miya was diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is a common disease in not only us humans, but also cats and dogs. The Freestyle Libre is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system applied by your veterinarian to monitor glucose levels. 📳 The sensor is gently placed onto the back of the neck and remains there for about two weeks. With this system, we’re able to eliminate the need for multiple office visits and blood-pricks since the veterinarian is able to track glucose levels in real-time via the freestyle libre mobile app! Such an innovative device we’re grateful to be able to use in veterinary medicine! 🐾 With the ability to monitor glucose levels this way, pet parents of diabetic patients and their veterinarian can make informed decisions about their pet’s diet, insulin dosage, and overall diabetes management, leading to improved health and well-being for their extra sweet companions. 🩷

🙀 We are so excited to tell you about Solensia. Many cats experience pain from osteoarthritis (OA) — you may notice your kitty hesitate before jumping, change the way they go up and down stairs, no longer chase toys, or just slowing down in general.
You might have chalked it up to normal age changes, but it could be pain and discomfort due to OA. Until this year, there was not a lot we could do about OA in cats…Now there is!
Solensia is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to control OA pain. Solensia works like your cat’s naturally made antibodies to reduce pain signals.
We are thrilled to offer this amazing treatment to our kitty patients and have already seen it work wonders, like here on Dr. Brignac’s patient, Mia, and even with Dr. Wheeler’s own cats!
Call or text us if you’re interested in learning more about Solensia for your whisker-baby! 😻
Sometimes belly rubs are a necessity during the physical exam!! Dr. Ben and Matt were happy to oblige for Pacha 💕

Curbside appointments at River Road Veterinary Hospital
We are here to care for your pets with curbside appointments! 🚙
Call us or book your pet’s appointment at RiverRoadVets.com. When you arrive, pull into a parking spot and let us know you’re here. A Vet Assistant will come to your car to discuss your pet’s needs, symptoms and questions for their appointment and bring them inside. Your pet’s Veterinarian will conduct their examination, and either they or their assistant will call you with their diagnosis or treatment estimate, and suggested vaccines for a wellness visit. You can either wait in the car during the appointment or come back to pick up your pet later. We make each pet feel comfortable and cared for while they are in our treatment room!
Let us know if you’d like to pick up any flea, tick, heartworm medicine, or food while you’re here. We can also have these items ready for curbside pickup if your pet doesn’t have an appointment scheduled. Call or email us at [email protected] to place your order.
Thank you for trusting us with the health and wellness of your pets! We look forward to seeing you for their curbside appointments!
Ear mites under Microscope at RRVH
🕷 If your pet is shaking their head or scratching at their ears, it might be mites! 🕷
Symptoms of ear mites include itching, dark crumbly discharge, or inflammation due to itching with the pet’s claws. If a pet scratches too long, it can even cause wounds or infection.
We can quickly treat ear mites with a thorough cleaning and a prescription treatment. Let us help relieve your pet’s itching!
Happy National Pig Day from one of our patients, Winnie! Winnie’s mom sent us this sweet video of him playing in the yard. 🐷
I'm looking for my forever home! I was hit by a car, had a surgery on my back leg (which I'm getting around perfectly on now!) and have no feeling in one of my front paws. As you can see by my tetherball skills though, it's not keeping this good kitty down! I'm approximately 19 weeks old, female, domestic longhair, FELV/FIV negative, vaccinated, and love to snuggle more than anything in the world. Please stop by to visit me and let's see if we are a good fit for each other!
P.S. You can see an adorable photo of myself, snuggling Mr. Seahorse, in the comments section below!
