It’s National Volunteer Week, and we want to give a huge shoutout to all of our incredible volunteers! 💚 Whether you're doing laundry, walking dogs, cuddling cats, or helping at events, your time and compassion make a world of difference for our animals.

As we gear up for kitten season, we’re especially in need of cat volunteers during these times:
🐾 Every other Wednesday morning
🐾 Friday mornings
🐾 Some weekends

You’ll get the chance to snuggle sweet kittens and spend time with our wonderful adult cats, all while helping pets in need. Volunteer at the shelter and this could be you—lap full of kittens and heart full of joy! 🐱💕

Ready, set, run (or walk)! Sign up today for the 12th Annual Furry Friends 5K Run/Walk to support homeless pets at the Humane Society of Jefferson County!

📅 Saturday, May 17 at the Jefferson County Fair Park
🏃‍♀️ $35 for the 5K | 🧒 $15 for the KidK Obstacle Run/Walk

Enjoy a scenic, flat course that’s perfect for all ages and experience levels. Dogs are welcome, so bring your furry friend along for the fun! 🐶 The KidK Obstacle Run/Walk features hopscotch-style activities, color powder, a rail yard, and more.

Make a difference for pets in need and have a great time doing it!

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Joyce! 🌟

Joyce is a beloved member of our volunteer team who brings heart, dedication, and a deep love for animals to the shelter each week.

Why does Joyce volunteer at the HSJC?
"I want to be around people that loved my son Galen as much as me, and love animals. This is a great supportive and healing place for me, and it is also fun to meet more people."

Joyce’s son, Dr. Galen Heyne, was a compassionate veterinarian and a dear friend of the shelter whose legacy continues to inspire us.

From folding laundry and washing dishes to helping at events, Joyce makes a huge difference every single week. We're so grateful to have her on the HSJC Volunteer Team!

Volunteers like Joyce are essential to keeping things running smoothly. In addition to keeping supplies clean and ready, they help socialize the cats in our community rooms—and right now, we could use extra help at the following times:

· Tuesday mornings
· Weekend mornings
· Weekend afternoons

Still searching for your perfect match? Don’t forget to check out the pets in our Home-to-Home program! These animals stay in their current homes while waiting to be adopted, which is much less stressful for them than a shelter stay and it keeps space open at the shelter for pets in urgent need. You'll work directly with the current owner, giving you a unique opportunity to learn about the pet’s personality, habits, and needs—straight from the source!
