During the spring of 2014 Michael and I were in the market for a new project, after a few months of looking around we kept finding ourselves coming back to see the same property. We visited this place over 5 five times before we decided let’s make an offer- we knew exactly what we had and how far we could stretch our budget. We sent an offer out on a Tuesday with a 48 hour response, well Thursday
came and went and we didn’t hear a thing so we thought well it just wasn’t meant to be yet. Maybe there is another farm that we can purchase. Our realtor calls on Saturday afternoon to tell us that they accepted our offer, we were totally excited to finally start working toward our dream of finally owning our own farm. A year later and a total remodel of the 1880 cream city brick house we finally moved in… that’s when all the fun began!!! The property that we purchased has just recently came out of a 15 year conservation protection program(CRP), so needless to say the fields and pastures needed just as much work as the house!!! We decided that we were going to start in the front and work our way back. In the spring we added a new pasture in the front and in May 2015 purchased our first groups of cows, and since then have added to them- with the hopes of someday not only raising beef but also breeding our group of Herefords. As many of you know my love for egg chickens, I brought my hens over from our old place and purchased a ton more. In addition I have added a brooding house that opens up into the pasture where I currently have been raising our meat chickens and turkeys. Also this summer we decided that we would purchase some pigs for breeding, so that was another project for a pig pen and finished off the other pasture in the front. In addition to all of that the summer has gone really fast with sll the projects that we have done in the year that we have lived here. Although I always complain about how busy I am with the farm- it worth every minute of it- to finally be living our dream with the hopes that in the next few years have a larger operation that someday our children will take over. Not only is this a new business for us but it is also our life- our home- our happiness. We have built a life on hard work, trust honesty, faith, compassion, and love. We believe we can bring those same values to our business.
