🐾 Featured Friday 🐾

This week, we'd like to introduce you to Larry. Larry was born at the kennel in 2013 and has been a fantastic sled dog during his time with us. We'd love for him to have the opportunity to give house life a try.

Larry has what we jokingly refer to as "resting dog face" at the kennel because he always has a kind of mopey expression, his tail could be going a mile a minute, and his full body could be wiggling with excitement, yet his face will be totally neutral.

Larry is friendly, and affectionate, without being obnoxious about it. He often takes a minute to warm up to new faces, and consequently can come across as standoffish, but he does comes out of his shell fairly quickly when given the chance. In general, he is a calm dog that would be just as happy to go for walks as he would be to cuddle on a doggie bed at your feet while you work.

Larry gets along fine with other dogs. While he does gets along with children, they are not his crowd of choice. Larry much prefers older individuals, and those with calm energy. He would be a great companion for single person, or older couple.

🐶 It's Featured Friday 🐶

Please allow us to introduce you to adoptable sled dog Copper, aka Copper II. Since his arrival in 2019, he has been a fan favorite at the kennel. Between his charming good looks and friendly disposition, it's easy to see why.

Copper is an 11 year old sled dog who is ready to retire and give house life a try. This gentle giant still enjoys going on adventures and would be a great outdoor buddy. While he may technically be a senior, Copper is extremely strong and will need a home that can commit to working on leash etiquette.

During his time with us, Copper has always gotten along fantastic with children. He also gets along well with female dogs, but tends to be male dog selective. We don't have cats, or small animals, so we are unsure how he may do in a home with them.

Overall, Copper has been an "easy keeper" and is generally a low maintenance fella who is always happy to receive a treat and affection. He would be a wonderful family dog.

To learn more about Copper and/or our adoption program, howl at us today!

Happy Feature Friday!

This week, we would like for you to meet Missy! She travelled to us all the way from Illinois (along with 19 other kennel mates, and a cat) in 2015 when her owner sadly passed away from cancer. She is 11 years young and tends to be shy, and reserved, around new people which unfortunately has led to her being overlooked by many potential adopters.

Once Missy has a chance to get to know you, she is a wonderful companion. She enjoys calm settings, a quieter home without young children or rambunctious pets, would be optimal. She gets along well other dogs, and really enjoys getting out for adventures. She may be a senior, but she certainly isn’t sedentary. Missy would be an amazing walking / light hiking partner!

To learn more about Missy and/or our adoption program, simply howl us by sending a message.

** Happy Featured Friday ** A new weekly installment where every week during the spring we will be spotlighting an adoptable friend. To kick things off, we'd like to introduce you to Nulato!

Nulato is a 9 year old husky mix. This handsome fella is a certified good boy. He is smart, and submissive, which is a rare combination for a lead sled dog. He enjoys getting pats and is treat / food motivated. While he enjoys adventures, he is happy to relax and hang out as well.

Much to his displeasure, Nulato was retired early from dog sledding for showing signs of an "aging back" (ie: bone spurs and spinal degeneration). Nulato lives a normal, happy life, but for preventative health measures should no longer partake in pulling or weight bearing activities. Luckily being a cuddle buddy doesn't require either, and Nulato would love nothing more than to be your new best friend.

Nulato is currently being fostered by a staff member and reportedly has transitioned great at being an "inside dog." He is house trained, enjoys his crate when needed, and while still figuring out the hardwood stairs, is becoming more confident by the day.

To learn more about Nulato, or our adoption program, howl at us by sending a message!

Today may mark of the official start of spring for most of the US, but Coos and Andro are preparing to celebrate a season we affectionately call “fake spring” aka “mud season.”

Just like with all the other seasons, mud season and spring, bring their own set of unique challenges and needs. For those looking to support the sled dogs during the off season, we have put together an updated wishlist of the muddy buddies most used, and desired, seasonal items. Links to updated Amazon and Chewy wishlist are in the comment section below. 🐾

Adopted sled dog Ziva, and her four legged friends at the kennel, would like to extend a huge heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who participated in "spaying it forward" this February.

Between the sweatshirts for spays fundraiser ($610), the spay-en-fundraiser ($1,147.62) and Ziva's contribution ($1,030.76), the sled dogs raised: $2,788.38. The phase 1 spay goal was $2,695, which means not only was enough raised to cover the upcoming 6 senior spays this spring, but that there is $93.38 to put towards any unexpected costs that may arise and/or future spay / neuters as well!🥳

We are so grateful to have received this pawsome support (especially after such a bizarre winter season) and are excited to tackle this health initiative. The first two spays are scheduled to happen this March. We promise to report back how everyone does with their procedures this spring, many pathetic, yet cute, doggies wearing cones pictures to follow.

The sled dogs want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the pawsome supporters who purchased a sweatshirt as part of the “spay it forward campaign”. 25 sweatshirts were sold and $610 in proceeds were raised which will go towards our phase 1 spay fundraising goal of $2,695.

For those who ordered, be sure to keep an eye on your mailbox, Custom Ink notified us that sweatshirts should be delivered to buyers on, or around, March 4th!

For those who missed the opportunity to purchase the exclusive sweatshirt, but want to support the sled dogs spay initiative, we are still running the “spay-en-tine” donation program until the end of the month! (A participation link is in the comment section below).

Between the sweatshirt fundraiser ($610) and spay-en-tines
received both online ($1,463) and at the kennel ($100), we are so close! Only $522 left to achieve the overall goal of $2,695.

Can you help the sled dogs raise $932 in 24 hours?
Over the past 13 days the sled dogs have been celebrating spay/neuter awareness month by raising funds to alter dogs at the kennel.

So far, the sled dogs have raised $1,763 which is pawsome, but they still need your help crossing the finish line to their final goal of $2,695.

Our phase 1 spay goal is to alter senior females at the kennel as they tend to be the group with the highest health risks of being intact. We currently have 7 procedures on the books over the next few months. Each procedure cost approximately $385 which is where the goal of $2,695 comes from.

The sled dogs currently have 2 different contribution options for those who want to help them achieve this goal:

Option 1 - A limited time, newly designed, sweatshirt is available for preorder now through Valentine's Day (it's anticipated to ship the first part of March). All sale proceeds go towards the effort of spaying. You help a four-legged friend, and get a cozy hoodie in return.

Option 2 - Be a "Spay-En-Tine" by contributing any monetary amount you'd like, all donors will be recognized by having a heart put up in the warming room with their name, and donation amount, for all visitors to see and be inspired by for the month of February.

Links to both donation options can be found using the links in the comment section below.

Woof, Bark, Howl! In the first 5 days of fundraising efforts, our amazing supporters have contributed $1,163 towards the sled dogs phase 1 spay goal of $2,695, that's almost half!

Our phase 1 spay goal is to alter senior females at the kennel as they tend to be the group with the highest health risks of being intact. We currently have 7 procedures on the books over the next few months. Each procedure cost approximately $385 which is where the goal of $2,695 comes from.

The sled dogs currently have 2 different contribution options for those who want to celebrate spay / neuter awareness month by donating towards their efforts!

We just know that you all can help us knock this goal out of the park in the next 9 days!

02/01/2024

In celebration of spay/neuter awareness month (and Valentine's Day) adopted sled dog Ziva is challenging you to help her spread the love (and raise husky bucks) towards spaying some of her favorite four-legged friends.

Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, both of which are often deadly for dogs. It can also decrease aggression and ultimately leads to a longer life expectancy.

While the benefits of spaying are priceless, the cost of the procedure is not!

On average, a spay surgery with pre-surgery lab work, cost us $385.

To kickoff our spay-a-palooza we are starting with the oldest intact doggies at the kennel as they are typically at the highest risk of complications. We currently have 7 spay procedures on the books over the next couple of months. At approximately $385 per surgery that means we're looking at an approximate cost of $2,695.

In support of her fellow senior gals, adopted sled dog Ziva has agreed to match the funds we can raise between 2/1/24 - 2/14/24, up to the cost of 2 spays, that's $770, which is a lot of husky bucks!

We invite you to come pledge your love, and show your favorite seniors some affection by donating towards their upcoming spay procedures!

All donors, and their donation amounts, will be recognized with a heart hung up in the warming room that visitors will be able to see during the month of February!

*If we should be so lucky as to exceed our goal of $2,695, any excess funds would be applied to future spay/neuter procedures.

With bellies full of treats, and the day coming to a close, the muddy buddies would like to say THANK YOU to all the wonderful folks who stopped by today for the Howliday Open House. They loved meeting several new faces, and always enjoy welcoming back repeat guests.

Now we all just need to keep our fingers, and paws, crossed for snow. The doggies are eager to start the season and hit the trails! 🐾💙❄️

Woof, Bark, Ruff! The sled dogs are howling with gratefulness and are truly humbled by the overwhelming generosity we have received from supporters recently. Christmas might technically be in another 24 days, but it has felt like it every day at the kennel lately. Over the past few weeks we have been spoiled with new houses, storage solutions, wish-list items, and countless treats. THANK YOU all for your kindness, your thoughtfulness has a larger impact than you can ever possibly know. 🐾

P.S.
Please know that Amazon has been really wonky with their gift slips lately, so if you have been kind enough to send something via Amazon, but haven't received a thank you, it is not our intention to appear rude, we just may not know how to reach you to tell you THANK YOU directly! 🫶

You’ve heard about “Elf On The Shelf” but what about “Husky At Your House”?

Unlike those seasonal elves, a retired sled dog would be happy to be in your home year-round! They are also excellent at creating their own mischievous scenes, no endless Pinterest idea lists necessary. (They won’t even tell Santa if you’re naughty.)

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

We are incredibly grateful for all the amazing support we have received in way of donations, adoptions, fostering, sharing posts for doggies in need, etc. Several of our projects, health initiatives and rescue efforts wouldn't be possible without you!

What are you grateful for?

PSA - Please remember that not all Thanksgiving foods, and seasonings, are safe for Fido! A few seasonal items that are sled dog tested, and approved, when enjoyed in moderation are: sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, and real pumpkin (not pie).

** COURTESY LISTING **

Meet Buddy! Buddy is a Siberian Husky mix and is approximately 7 years old. Buddy came from a sled dog kennel. This guy is looking for someone with the time and patience he needs as he needs some work on his manners and leash skills. He is looking for a special someone with a passion for huskies and someone who is looking for more of a project dog. This guy is treat motivated but very intelligent so he will be looking for someone extra special.

We do not know how much interaction he had with the other dogs in his previous kennel, though he has done well with other dogs here. We do recommend a slow and appropriate introduction to any resident pups. We do not know his history with cats or children so we recommend a slow introduction to both of these species.

Buddy is neutered and update on vaccines.

Buddy is currently located at - New Hampshire SPCA in Stratham, NH
