🚨Heatstroke can be a deadly problem even in mild weather. Local veterinarians have already seen a number of these cases. Today will be hotter and more humid....meaning more dangerous for dogs.

🐶Our canine friends can only cool themselves one way. They use evaporation from their tongues and airways but in Oklahoma humidity, this doesn't work well. This means dogs can overheat very quickly.

🌡Symptoms of heatstroke include excessive panting, bright red gums, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures and collapse. Pets with these symptoms must be seen by a veterinarian immediately! Heatstroke can lead to blood clotting issues, kidney injury, liver damage and death.

🏖To minimize the risk of Heatstroke, walk or exercise your dogs only at dawn or dusk and keep them indoors in the air conditioning during the hotter parts of the day. Dogs who are outside must be provided adequate shade and air movement....and of course plenty of water.

If your pet does require urgent attention due to potential Heatstroke, take them to the nearest Emergency or Urgent Care Hospital. South County Animal Clinic recommends STATVet Animal Urgent Care
