Puppies explore their worlds with their mouths (and noses) so picking things up in their mouth is like human babies touching things. While it may be annoying (and painful!), it is a normal part of your dog's development. We cannot, and should not, expect dogs to not do it.

Although rawhide chews come in lots of fun shapes and sizes, your dog can chew off and swallow large pieces, leading to a potential choking hazard or intestinal obstruction. What’s even worse is how rawhide is created: rawhides are a by-product of the leather industry and are soaked and treated in chemicals like bleach, formaldehyde and arsenic‼️They are then glued together to make "pretty treats".
Please avoid them at all cost, no matter how attractively they market them! 🙏🚫👎

We should not expect every dog to love every other member of their species. Even the most friendly, social dog will eventually find some dogs they don’t like, just as even the most outgoing person you know doesn’t like some other humans.

It’s an unrealistic expectation to think every dog “wants to say hi” or will be friends with every dog they meet. And if we think this, we’re just setting our dog and ourselves up to fail.

Let's shift our thinking and think about dog sociability as a spectrum and different dogs will fall in different spots. Genetics, age, socialization and many other factors all play a part in this. Read more in this week's post.
