Our paperwork shows a dismal average of 11 surrender applications per month, equivalent to roughly 3 per week, over the past 13 months.
This is in contrast to the 23 adoption applications received in the last 10 months.
(That includes families who have already adopted. Just wanted to give a comparison)
The weekly emails and texts I receive from individuals who did not submit an application only add to the urgency of the situation.
The situation is dire. Not just adoptions but.finances as well
Education is key. I'm working on articles to help with that.

Max and Zuko are at the vet for an urgent visit.
Max
can't seem to get to a healthy point. A healthy weight, no diarrhea etc. (Tested for coccidia, treated, retested and clear)
His fur doesn't grow like all other bins. When I give him a haircut his fur doesn't grow back for months. And although he is not emaciated he is skinny.
He eats hay, pellets and critical care.
Most of the time perfect poops and is urinating.
Usually he drinks his entire water bowl but didn't touch it last night.
He has been getting subq fluids during episodes of diarrhea and medicated with gas and pain meds as needed.
Zuko is still fighting the upper respiratory infe tion, even though all kinds of antibiotics even penicillin injections.
Also subq injections since he can't drink with his severe head tilt.
He has become more active and has figured out how to flip himself back upright.
We do therapy several.times a day.
And he gets his meds as prescribed by vet.

Every dollar makes a difference.
I know I'm going to get ALOT of flack for this; but honestly it just needs to be said.
Every rescue has at least thought of responding this way; well I finally did.
Hate me, unfollow me, cuss me out; whatever you need to do. But it's the damn truth.
We are exhausted, broke, heartbroken, overwhelmed, depressed, angry, and just plain OVER IT!
You might think you're trying to find them a better home, but yes; it's dumping your responsibility off on someone else.
The medical expenses are too much? Ok we get that, but now you want US to take over that burden? Because why? We're made of money?
Small rescues, such as ours, rely solely on the community.
Being generous, between 50-90% of monies come out of rescues own pockets.
Donations are down.
Adoptions are down.
Surrenders, dumps and cruelty/hoarding cases are at an all time high.
Your 8 year old bunny is just too much work now?
You moved to a no pets apartment/home.
You are moving cross country and just can't take them with you?
Your 10month old bunny is spraying everywhere.
The 24/7 caged baby has become aggressive and you no longer want them?
Your 3 year old is no longer interested?
Your 12 year old no longer cleans the cage and won't be responsible anymore?
You don't want to take our advice and suggestions and help you keep your baby?
We growl, cuss, yell and fall into depressions when we see and hear the things we do.
Most of us are or should be on medication. No one should see the things we do.
The lack of knowledge is fine, but not willing to learn and adapt because it's too much trouble?
That Is not ok. It makes you a heartless human being.
There are always extenuating circumstances which rescues are more than sympathetic to and always take into consideration.
I have taken on many bunnies that were homeless, having been homeless myself before can't help but empathize.
