One of our many rescue babies. Young mama Pepper gave birth to 5 beautiful babies the night she came to us. She is a great mom but struggling to feed her kittens, so we are lending a helping hand with a bottle in it.

CINNAMON UPDATE
Our 911 baby Cinnamon is doing great. He doesn't know he had 2 broken back legs at only a pound and a half and was lucky to survive his trip in a car engine. Cinnamon is now almost 3 pounds and has been reunited with his mama. She was brought to us a few weeks ago by her caregiver. We named her Nutmeg - she is a young, single mom that was abandoned and relied on the kindness and help of a family in her community to get by. Nutmeg and Cinnamon will be adopted together and live the good life that they deserve. Message me if you would like to apply to adopt this sweet mom and her baby.
Cinnamon update
After only a few weeks of TLC our miracle baby Cinnamon is doing great❣ A big thank you to everyone who cared and helped us save him. This little guy has touched the hearts of everyone who meets him. Soon he will be ready to go to a forever home and live happily ever after 🐾🐱💗
Cinnamon is home from the vet and walking!
Big thanks to Dr. Negola's Animal Care, LLC for caring enough to save this baby, to Show Your Soft Side who covered most of his surgical cost, and to our wonderful supporters who are contributing to his continuing care. Cinnamon's road to recovery will involve follow-ups, medication, and physical therapy. It's amazing that this kitten is walking this morning with a broken femur at the hip and a broken knee.
We want to sincerely thank everyone for their generous donations and positive thoughts.
Smudge loves his baba❣
This tiny one got off to a rough start. He and one of his siblings had to be delivered C-section. Their mama, Skye, came to us very pregnant. After giving birth to one baby she was obviously having trouble birthing the others. Dr. Negola came to the rescue and saved mom and kittens. He was very concerned that the kittens would not nurse or mom would not have milk to feed them. Fortunately, this was not the case. The kittens latched on, started nursing and all was well. However at week four Smudge who had been competing with his 2 hungry siblings for their mom’s milk was not gaining weight. Being the runt is tough without the help of a friend. We started feeding him and will continue until he is weaned and eating kitten food on his own. Smudge and family are one of 19 litters of homeless moms and kittens that became Sunshine's Friends this season. The season is not yet over!
If you would like to be part of our effort to help homeless animals please consider volunteering, fostering, adopting, donating food, litter or money for supplies and medical expenses.
Our tiny nurse-aholic🐾
Angelito's Story, A Tail with a happy ending❣
We accepted a 6 week old kitten that came to us weighing 300 g (11 oz). We knew he was over 6 weeks old because his eyes had changed from blue to green but he was so small. Two days later his siblings were brought in and we realized Angilito (little angel) was the runt of a litter of 5. His siblings weighed more than twice as much as him. Mom was a street cat and did not have enough milk for her little family. Our new tiny guy had very poor body condition, was covered with fleas, and so anemic but with no obvious illness. He was alert, active and purring up a storm but he had no desire to eat. We tried bottle feeding, syringe feeding and hand feeding. Angelito wanted no parts of any of it. After getting him checked out, flea free, and stabilized with some fluids we put him with one of our nursing mom cats. Angelito is a total nurse-aholic. He started gaining weight immediately and has not stopped. He also has not started eating food and he should be. His siblings were eating when they came 2 weeks ago. We are working on getting him to like kitten food as much as the foster mom's milk. Angilito has been pre-adopted with one of his crate mates - foster mom's kitten. If all goes well he will go to his wonderful forever home with his human mom and dad in about 5 weeks.
Happy Monday Update #2
Our babies are growing beautifully. They will be two weeks old tomorrow. Their favorite past time, besides nursing, is climbing Mt. Mommy.
We had some great suggestions for naming these cuties but we all agreed on a Native American theme. The names submitted by Carol Hicks were: Angeni meaning spirit animal, Lakota - friend and Wapi - lucky.
We have contacted Carol and will post the watercolor painting of her favorite fur-baby when it is done.

Sunshine's Friends need your help
Sunshine’s Friends Needs Your Help.
When you see mostly “shares” and fewer posts, it is because we are so very busy this time of year saving the lives of mamas and their babies. We wear many hats, so posting and public relations take a back seat to our rescue and care efforts. In addition to the usual requests for help, we are inundated with calls to take in and find homes for mothers with newborn kittens and puppies.
Trapping/rescuing homeless cats and dogs is just the beginning for our organization. We provide them with a safe, clean, stress-free environment, and a nutritious diet. Kittens and puppies have no natural immunity to protect them, so keeping them healthy is a full-time job for our staff. All of our rescues need veterinary care, and some hardship cases require extra-special attention. Our normal routine includes vaccinating, deworming, and parasite control in their first few months of life. When the babies are big enough, we take them and their moms to our vets for spay/neuter, testing, and more shots. Meanwhile we work on finding awesome forever homes for them by taking pictures, posting them, and meeting with potential adopters.

ACAI'S HAPPY TAIL
Acai and her brother/bff, Leo, are ready for Santa and their wish is that all homeless cats and dogs are safe, warm and loved. Please help make their wish come true. Give a shelter pet a second chance for the life they deserve.
Acai's story had a sad beginning. In March of this year some heartless person put 5 beautiful, 4 week old kittens in a box and left them in a dumpsters to die. Here is the link to our original post. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1935593466754708&id=1377760289204698
These sweet babies were rescued, brought to to Sunshine's Friends and at 3 months old adopted to wonderful families where they are loved and will live happily ever after.
"HAPPY TALES"
Sampson became one of Sunshine's Friends in June of this year. The person who was supposed to be caring for him and finding him a new home posted a notice on a community bulletin board, Sampson would be euthanized if no one wanted to take him by Friday.
Our volunteer in the community asked if we would take Sampson. Of course we said yes. Sampson had been in one home with one person for about 10 years, since he was a kitten. It was the only life he knew. Sampson was first angry then depressed, he was suffering from seperation anxiety and a broken heart. He did not want to eat, started loosing weight and was jaundiced. He would die from fatty liver disease if we could not get food into him. Luckly for Sampson we had a new volunteer, a retired nurse, who came every day to hand feed Sampson and talk to him. After several trips to the vet, intense care and lots of love Sampson finally started eating on his own and even playing, we knew he was going to recover. It took three months but Sampson is in good health and can be adopted by a special person who will love him and monitor his eating and weight.
Won't You Give A Kitten A Chance?
It's kitten season and Sunshine's Friends has so many cute fur balls. Please come meet them at the Ellicott City PetSmart Adoption Event on June 16th or call Sunshine's Friends for an appointment to visit at the East Columbia/Jessup adoption center.
The RETURN part of T.N.R. - We trapped (T.) this feral mom cat a few months ago. She was very pregnant, so we held her until she had her kittens. Once they were a couple months old and weened, we took mom to the vet for spay/neuter (N.) and vaccinations. Today we returned (R.) mom to the place we trapped her. She knows where she lives and she is fed there and looked after by a local caregiver. The kittens will go to their adopters' homes as soon as they are spayed or neutered too.
