Why it's wrong to kill snakes ...

See this? This is a yellow rat snake doing what snakes do best ― eating rodents and preventing disease. Some people think a wild snake will only eat once a week or so, but that’s a myth. They are opportunistic feeders and will often eat multiple prey items in one meal, such as entire nests of rodents!

This is why humans need snakes. This is why, no matter how you feel about snakes, you should never kill one. Snakes perform an invaluable service just by doing what they do ― asking nothing in return but to be left alone.

The only good snake is a live snake! (This one is multi-tasking.) 🙂

Pretty cool if you ask me hopefully they can make their goal of hatching 1000 baby’s a year!!

The fate of turtles is in all our hands.

Earlier this year at the Nagsankar Temple in Assam, India, 7 eggs hatched...
At the Shrine of Bayazid Bastami in Chittagong, Bangladesh, 36 eggs hatched...

Previously feared extinct in the wild, a TSA-driven education and "buy-back" program in Northeast India led to the confirmation of a population of critically endangered Black Softshell Turtles (Nilssonia nigricans) in the Brahmaputra River in 2019! In captivity, hundreds of these giant turtles live in temple ponds of India and Bangladesh.

The TSA India Program, with its primary conservation partners in the state, Help Earth and Assam Forest Department, has been advising the Nagsankar Temple’s Black Softshell Turtle recovery program since 2013. Simultaneously, our TSA-India research technician Gaurav Barhodiya has been working tirelessly in the North Bank Landscape to evaluate the current status of this critically endangered species in its rivers. It's our collective intent to embark on a future intensive reintroduction / population supplementation program for this species in Northeastern India.

Based on this year’s incubation methodology and success in Bangladesh, our partner the Creative Conservation Alliance now plans to scale up its project with the potential to hatch over 1,000 per year!

Support these conservation and reintroduction efforts for the Black Softshell and other turtles now and your gift will automatically be Doubled in December! San Diego Zoo Global and the TSA Board of Directors are offering matching funds up to $50,000!
