My newest safety upgrade - I added a second door panel to my crate. In the event of an accident that prevents the opening of my rear door, I will now be able to get a dog out of the crate from the front seat.

Today was only the 7th hike in 2024! The warmer weather can't come soon enough.

Dog Parks and Daycare Aren’t for Every Dog!

We rescued Baron in November 2015. Prior to adopting him, I was told he had aggression issues with other dogs. I was determined to try to help Baron and give him a great life, even if it meant he’d be my only dog. His aggression prevented us from walking in our neighborhood, or anywhere else with a high probability of encountering another dog.

I began doing a lot of research on aggression, the anxieties that it can stem from and methods of training. I began working in the field of dog training, under Certified Trainers. I invested a great deal of time and effort to teach Baron that I would not put him in situations that (he was showing me) made him very uncomfortable. He learned that he was safe with me. He’d come a very long way. He could pass by another leashed dog, within 50 feet’, with only a fraction of the reaction he used to exhibit. It was at this point I decided to take him hiking.

We hardly ever took blazed trails. We spent our hikes on non-blazed trails, abandoned roads or overgrown footpaths. We got lost a lot, but we rarely encountered anyone. I’ve never seen Baron happier than he is when we’re in the woods. He sniffs, marks, explores, crosses streams, climbs rock formations and best of all he looks completely relaxed.

It was on a hike, in December of 2017 that the idea of providing a similar experience, for other dogs like Baron, began to take root in my mind.
