It’s hot out today! The asphalt temperature is going to be significantly higher than the air temperature. Today the asphalt has reached 124 F. Boots will prevent your dogs from getting burnt paws. You can purchase cost effective ones at PetSmart and Amazon. Ruffwear, muttlucks are also good brands that will last longer.

I've noticed I have some new followers here! Welcome! I'm glad you're here!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Jennie Kate Carr. I use she/ her pronouns. I am disabled and am a service dog handler myself. I am married to partner, my husband, Matthew Carr for almost a year now.

I have a bachelor's degree in animal science from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville and I have experience in animal behavior, husbandry, education, and safe animal handling across multiple species. I am trained in multiple ways of dog training. I do practice LIMA training and will use aversive tools (prongs, e-collars, head collars, ect) when they are needed. However I am very picky about the kind, brand, and method of using and conditioning the dog to those tools.

As someone that helps people train their own service dog (and a service dog handle myself), I've seen the whole gamete of how people act when they see a working dog in public.

While we do work hard to train our dogs to work through it interaction can still be distracting, just like constant interaction is distracting for most people.

So if you are passing a working dog in public please just ignore it (don't stare, don't make sounds, etc), and if you are interacting with the handler please speak directly to us not to dog.

The reason I set individual goals for each dog is that each dog needs different things. Also each dog needs to learn different things. Service dogs needs to learn manners than pets need to learn. Each service dog trainer will have training unique to their handler. Each pet will have unique training to their home life and their background. Not every dog needs to learn to learn retrievals. Not all dogs will learn to sit when you stop walking. But most dogs can learn to sit, stay, and not pull on the leash. Contact me today for your unique training plan for your dog! What's the makes the a service dog so different from all the all other dogs? They have the desire to do kind that they want to do. They spend about 2 years learning to work their disabled human. Not only does this dog have advanced obedience down, they also can help make a disabled persons life easier.

Some service dogs only work in the home and those are real service dogs. Some go out into public and are with us most of the time and those are real too.

When people outside of the balanced dog training community they offer refer to this method as a punishment based method. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

The fact of the matter is that we, balanced trainers, use more positive reinforcement than correction. We aim for at least 80% positive reinforcement and no more than 20% correction.

Hi there! It's been a minute since I've introduced myself on this page! My name is Jennie Kate Clark Carr. I grew up here in Northeast Tennessee learning animal behavior from my dad and grandparents who had cattle dogs.

I do have a degree from The University of Tennessee - Knoxville in Animal Science as well as over 10 years experience in animal handling experience and animal behavior including AZA experience. I've worked at places like Seaworld and the Knoxville Zoo. I also have experience training working with tempermented dogs and pet tempermented dogs.

Holmes is doing a board and train with me this week!

Last week we worked on understanding leash pressure, clicker training, problem solving, and getting out from underneath chairs on command.

This week our goals out to gain more neutrality around humans (lots of field trips!) and working on leave it while still working on what he learned last week. He is only 4 months so we’re not taking things too fast.

SNOW DAY!!!

We’ve had several days of snow here in East Tennessee this week! This means that the dogs have gotten to play in it. It also means that I’ve been drying off dogs we’ve Im bringing them in. I’ve also been putting Emma’s boots on when we go to the store or places that have salt on the sidewalks so that her paws don’t get burnt. We’re doing more enrichment to keep the dog’s brains active as well. What are things you do with your dogs during snow days?

Training with your dog everyday is important. Training everyday helps with bonding and is what helps your dog understand that you are worth listening to. (I personally do not believe in alpha dog theory, maybe I’ll address this in another post) I work with clients to work a training schedule into their lifestyle.

With the holidays coming up dogs are being introduced to so many new things. This is just a friendly reminder to be kind to yourself and your dog when you encounter training setbacks. Your dog may not know how to handle something because it might be a brand new thing for them. Have grace for your fur family! Happy holidays from us to yours!

Foundations are important. If you hear the clicking, this first thing I conditioned Emma to was the clicker. She knows a click means that’s the correct thing. I always encourage people to market train their dogs. I’m a session we’ll talk more about that (I can also make a separate post about it). When you first get a dog the first things you do with them are the things that stick with them for the rest of their life. With puppies they’re the most moldeable at that point of their life. If you have a rescue then you have to build trust and teach them that you can be trusted and that they can trust your leadership. We then build up obedience from that foundation.

Yesterday Luther earned his Canine Good Citizen title. I have been working with him for a months and he's maturing into a great dog! His owner's are working hard with him between sessions to make sure that he succeeds.

Hi there!

I have exciting news! I have finished the course work, mentorship, and accreditation to evaluate trick dogs through Do More With Your Dog! This is great for my clients that have rescue dogs that love to train and love to learn new things. These titles are for registered and non-registered dogs alike. DMWYD titles can be transferred to the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC (not the CKC the registers mixed breeds)).

There are some new changes coming to Blue Dog Training in the new year!

We will be opening up slots for board and training on a limited basis! I will taking on one dog at a time for a board and train.

Just like with regular training we will have individualized training plans for each dog.

Bookings are a bit different have a 1 week and an upfront booking deposit. Discounts are given for bookings longer than 1 week. For booking board and trains please email [email protected]
