Preface: I AM NOT THAT OLD!

I remember pumping and breastfeeding in bathroom stalls at many professional conferences.

Hiding near the back of the room in case the baby made a sound.

Setting alarms to make sure milk gets stored up for the next week, setting up a sanitation station in a hotel room. Begging the front desk to freeze my ice packs.

And if you’re reading this and thinking, that’s no reason to stay home…you’ve never mentally prepared yourself to engage professionally at a conference while also lugging around gallons of milk and making sure you have enough ice in your cooler to keep it safe.

A childcare room and mother’s space may seem so simple and, to some, unnecessary.

But it’s practical, progressive inclusion that makes it possible for parents of young children to engage, attend and lead.

One young person in the throes of raising babies attended American Association of Bovine Practitioners annual conference, saw this room and thought, “I can do this.” And that’s worth everything!!! Bring those babies to BP, we have a room for you!

✨ I’m a working mom. My life is wild, busy, and sometimes flat-out chaotic. But through it all, my family is always my priority. Always.

Today, another mom said to me:
“I could’ve had a great career too, but I chose my kids.”

As if I didn’t.

Here’s the truth: motherhood is honorable no matter how you live it. Choosing to stay home is sacred, hard, beautiful work. Choosing a career alongside motherhood is sacred, hard, beautiful work too. In a world that wants your opinion to be one side or the other, there’s a whole lot of middle that’s not wrong.

As if being a mom with a career means my kids ever came second.
As if every late night, every early morning, every car seat in the back of my truck on the way to a farm wasn’t proof that I chose them too.
As if showing my kids what passion, grit, and hard work look like… isn’t choosing them.

I chose my family. I chose my kids. I also chose to keep a part of myself alive in the work I love. And those choices don’t cancel each other out—they build on each other.

To every mom—whether you’re home full-time or balancing career and kids—your love shows up loud. And that’s what matters most. 💜

Come at me. I said what I said. If you like soaking in a hot bath to relax? That’s awesome! But it’s not detoxing your body. You have vital organs doing that hard work! Thank goodness!
