🌟📸 SOLDIER SPOTLIGHT 📸🌟
1st Lieutenant Noah Barr, a native of Urbandale, Iowa, has carved out a distinguished path of service and leadership. Growing up with three younger brothers and attending school in West Des Moines, Barr learned early the value of responsibility and teamwork. He went on to play football at Grandview University 🏈 where he pursued his degree. It was during his time on campus that he felt a pull toward military service. After a conversation with a recruiter, Barr decided to join the ROTC program. In true leadership fashion, he convinced his classmate, 1LT Tanner Vermaas who is currently a Platoon Leader in Bushmaster Troop, to join him that same evening, marking the beginning of their dual service in the Iowa National Guard. 🤝
Barr’s decision to serve was deeply personal. He was inspired by the example set by both his grandfathers—one who served in the Air Force, and the other who fought in the Army during the Vietnam War 🪖 This sense of duty and family legacy reinforced his commitment to serving his country. Barr’s leadership qualities, combined with his passion for service, made him a natural fit for the military.
Currently, Barr is in the process of moving back to Des Moines as his wife concludes her service in the Army. In addition to his military duties, Barr works as a Case Manager at Asuta Health, where he helps oversee patient care and supports the organization’s marketing efforts. His ability to manage multiple roles highlights his dedication both to his career and to helping others.
Family is at the heart of Barr’s life. He cherishes every moment spent with his wife and daughter, finding balance between work, service, and home life. Whether playing pickleball with his wife or engaging in any sport that involves a ball, Barr is always active.
A man of strong faith, Barr is deeply involved in his church community. He participates in men’s groups and serves as a youth ministry coordinator, guiding young people in their spiritual growth ✝️ His faith informs his leadership style, as he strives to serve both his Soldiers and his community with integrity and compassion.
Barr’s military career is filled with standout moments. Among his favorite memories is his baptism during ROTC Basic Camp, a significant personal milestone that also marked the beginning of his relationship with his future wife. Other highlights include working with his Platoon during XCTC prior to arriving at Bushmaster Troop, building lifelong bonds with his fellow soldiers, and completing the physically and mentally taxing Spur Ride—a testament to his endurance and leadership.
Looking ahead, Barr has set several personal and professional goals for himself. He aims to pay off his home and continue advancing his career. He is also preparing himself to develop in his new role as Executive Officer (XO) for Bushmaster Troop. Barr is committed to leading with honor and ensuring the success and well-being of his Soldiers.
His advice to his fellow servicemembers is simple yet profound: find your “why” for serving, something deeper than just the benefits, and use it to drive you through the toughest times. He believes that enduring hardship can provide hope and relief for others and encourages soldiers to seek meaning in their service. Barr also offers his support to anyone who needs it, letting them know they can always come to him for advice or just a listening ear.
Thank you for your service, 1LT Barr! 🇺🇸
