Tom & Desiree's Pet Sitting

Tom & Desiree's Pet Sitting The Johnstown area alternative to the traditional kennel, in your home & neighborhood! You'll be part of the family too. as well as be licensed, etc.

Since we were 7 years old, we've had and cared for cats, dogs, and birds. There's always more than one "furbaby" in our home. We both have years of experience caring for pets and have always been animal lovers. Currently we have 2 huskies (Kanan & Angel), a giant malamute (Steele), a Pitsky (B.B.), and 4 sassy cats (Dixie, Toralei, Boo, & Maize). In the past, we've had rabbits, a snake, and fish a

s well. We love the outdoors and walks with our pack (and maybe your pack soon, too!). We've trained all our dogs in regular obedience and some puppy training. In the past, we've also litter trained rabbits, as well as our cats. Our goal is to help you and your babies feel like family, give you peace of mind and comfort, as well as a much more personalized and warm pet care experience than traditional pet care services, while you have to be away. We hope to see you soon and have you become part of our "pack" as well! Pet care is very important to us and a large part of our schedule is dedicated to it. We strive to be very flexible to meet all your pet care needs! 😊

Pets are never left unattended indoors or out, while under our care. We have lots of different dog (and cat!) toys that we offer as needed to stimulate your pets mind and get them to have fun. We do play time and different activities to wear them out and get good exercise. Your pet will be treated like family (and royalty!) while they are cared for by us. We love all of our clients pets as if they were our very own. They will get a ton of attention and care, when they are under our watch! Your furbabies will experience much, much more personalized attention and care than traditional pet care services, when they are with us! They literally become "part of the family" with us. 😊

In order to book with us, we do require that your pets be up to date with all their required vaccinations (rabies, etc.) as applicable by law and have received current flea and tick treatment. We do not service any pets that are known to be aggressive or have hurt humans or other pets in the past. We also are insured and bonded through the Business Insurers of the Carolinas, have enhanced background checks and clearances, are certified in pet CPR/first aid, and have CPS-DW certification for extra peace of mind and to ensure you receive five star, expert pet care each time! We are also members of Pet Sitters International and are accredited with the BBB. Let us know ahead of time if your pet has any special needs or requirements, medical care needs, allergies, etc. and we will do everything in our power to accommodate you and your pet! We like to do an initial meet and greet and ask you some routine questions about you and your pet. I seek to make this experience as smooth as possible for you and your pets, as well as gain your trust and hopefully a lifelong friend!

❗️🐱 ATTN: CAT PARENTS!!🐱❗️
Did you receive Easter lilies from your church or perhaps a friend or family member sent them to you? If you are a cat owner, DO NOT bring the lilies into your home! Every part of an Easter lily is toxic to cats (including the pollen and water dish) & even a small amount can cause kidney damage.

⭐Why should you only use a professional pet sitter?⭐

The growing need for pet care has prompted many tech companies and venture capitalists to enter the industry in recent years to launch pet-care apps and similar platforms, and individuals have joined the gig economy to earn extra cash as an occasional pet sitter or dog walker.

However, for pet parents who want the best care for their pets, selecting a professional pet-sitting or dog-walking company is a must!

Seeking out the services of a local professional pet-sitting business ensures you are utilizing the services of a local professional that is rooted in your community, involved in local pet-related efforts and is contributing to your local economy

PSI advises pet parents to do their due diligence to ensure they are hiring true professionals. The association offers a few tips:

1️⃣Schedule an in-person meeting. 👉PSI advises pet parents to schedule an in-person meeting with any potential pet sitter they are considering. This “meet and greet” or “initial consultation” gives pet parents an opportunity to meet the pet sitter, see them interact with their pets, and review their services as well as their credentials and policies.

2️⃣Ask the right questions. 👉PSI’s free Pet Sitter Interview Checklist includes important questions every pet parent should ask—from whether the pet-sitting company is bonded and insured to whether they use a pet-sitting services agreement or contract.

3️⃣Ask for recommendations if needed. 👉Don’t delay booking your professional pet sitter. Many professional pet sitters find that their summer schedules get booked up quickly. If the professional pet-sitting service you contact is booked, be sure to ask them for a recommendation, as most are happy to provide referrals to other reputable pet-sitting companies in your area.

This week is National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which is a project of the National Dog Bite Prevention Week Coalition.

As a pet parent, keep these tips in mind to help prevent dog bites this week—and all year long:

1. Share information about your dog’s history with your pet sitter. If you are using the services of a professional pet sitter or dog walker, remember they are tasked with keeping your pet safe and with trying to avoid problems when they encounter other people or pets. Let your pet sitter or dog walker know about any aggressive tendencies your dog has shown before, anything that stresses or freaks out the dog, and any other relevant information.

2. Do not interact with a dog without permission. Dog lovers may be tempted to pet any dog they encounter, but they should exercise restraint. Many pet sitters don’t allow interaction with the pets in their care, so ask before approaching any dog.

3. Keep your dog on a leash and stay alert. If you are walking your dog, make sure to obey all local leash laws, and understand that even where off-leash walking is permitted, it can be dangerous. Off-leash dogs can present a danger not only to a dog in a pet sitter’s care, but also to the pet sitter. The off-leash dog could even be the victim if it runs up to a dog that does not want to socialize.

National Pet Day is celebrated on April 11th each year to honor and appreciate the joy and companionship that pets bring to our lives. It’s also a day to raise awareness about animals in shelters that are in need of loving homes.

It’s the perfect time to spoil your furry, feathered, or scaly friends with extra treats, playtime, and cuddles! Many people also use this day to donate to animal shelters, adopt a pet, or spread awareness about responsible pet ownership.

Are you planning anything special for your pet on National Pet Day? 🐾💕

March 2nd-March 8th is Professional Pet Sitters Week!

So, in honor of this week, let's bust a myth:

Pet sitting is too expensive!

Not entirely true. Actually, it can be a surprisingly valuable investment. Let's compare options:

🐾 Friend/Family: May be free, but are they experienced? Trained? Insured? Reliable? What if something goes wrong? Are they trained in pet first aid or CPCR?

🐾 Boarding Kennel: Stressful environment for many pets. Limited individual attention. Risk of illness.

Often, neither one provides you with regular updates on your pet, so you have no clue what is going on.

vs.

🐾 Professional Pet Sitter: Personalized care in your pet's home. Experienced, insured, and bonded, as well as trained/certified in the latest and most up-to-date best practices in the business. Often has first aid/CPCR training (we do! 😁) Regular report card updates with photos, so you know exactly what is going on with your pet! Peace of mind for you.

Think about the true cost of pet care. Professional pet sitters offer exceptional value and peace of mind for your money.

For example, I recently completed the Aggressive Cats and How to Handle Them Pet Sit Pro Mini Course, and am excited to apply all I have learned to our business. Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your pets!

🐾We haven't done a Pet of the Week in a while since we've been so busy, so here's to trying to get back on track with it. 😃

Meet Zeus. He's a Cane Corso and one of the most lovable boys you will meet. He loves to play tug-of-war, fetch, and be brushed. And let's not forget, he LOVES to go on his daily trail walk! He will also attempt to be the biggest lap dog 😄 and if he likes you enough, you may even get some doggy kisses. 🐶

Thanks for being part of the pack, Zeus! 🥰
