Today we got out into the real world to help Dixie build her confidence and focus through distractions and she did really well!

Given this being the first time we got out into a high distraction environment I wasn’t expecting too much from her. Just simple commands like sit, down, stay, and a short heel walk (All things we have already worked on in low distraction)

Knowing that Dixie is a bit fearful and skittish of people she doesn’t know, i simply asked anyone that showed interest to just ignore her. I wanted Dixie to have calm interactions around as many new people, places, sounds, and objects as possible. This helps to push her out of her comfort zone in a healthy and positive way. Showing her that she doesn’t have to be so anxious around things she isn’t familiar with.

Finnegan and I want to wish a happy National Puppy đŸ¶ day to all of us dog lovers out there!

Mans best friend is an understatement for many of our pups and today is a day to appreciate them just a little more.

Weezy had an amazing morning with a good walk on leash and greatly improved focus. So, i decided we should learn a new skill!

The focus and eye contact is key. Certainly still improvements to be made but for learning it just a few minutes before, i’d say thats great work a 7 month old pup!

Be sure to praise up your dog after a job well done đŸ‘đŸ»

‌TRAINING TIP‌ âŹ‡ïž

Once you have MASTERED minimal distraction focus. SLOWLY integrate distractions into your training!

It’s important to remember that going from indoor training then to the real world is like transitioning from practice to the championship game.

So, be patient with your dog, don’t ask for too much too soon, and remember to be a calm and confident leader!
