I was contacted about a stray mom with kittens (2 days old) & another stray kitten in active labor (who I'm working to trap) - both of these animals I'm being told neighbors were threatening to shoot or poison them.
The mother of the pictured kitten is skittish and scared, rightfully so. During transport, I noticed this kitten bleeding but couldn't tell from where. It appears mom being scared during being trapped may have interfered with its umbilical cord. I spent my morning doing CPR on a 2 day old kitten & holding it for comfort while it took its last breath.

This is the reality of rescuing. Emergently calling the vet to try and get him to help, crying on the phone to your husband bc he passed before you could even get him to the car, standing at the sink washing his blood off your hands bc there's nothing else you can do to help him.

All bc someone didn't spay or neuter their pet. This is not exclusive to outdoor only cats. This is your house cat that broke through a screen & escaped or the cat you tossed on the street after realizing kittens do in fact turn into cats.

Along with other community animal welfare organizations, we will be advocating for the animals as always! Come out and visit us for same day adoptions, pet food pick-up, HSCC merchandise and more!
