Sunday came in for a visit and didn't want to leave her mom's lap.
No party quite like an ear mite party.
Wanted to share this jewel of a slab fracture, which is what happens when the enamel of the tooth breaks along the side. It certainly explained this patient's bad breath. You can even see the pulp cavity exposed and full of nasty material.
The specific tooth is the upper carnassial. When a dental abscess occurs, it is often this tooth that is the culprit. Also often because of fractures to the tooth due to chewing on hard bones.
Extraction of the tooth is the answer. With three roots to this tooth alone, it can be challenging. But with sharp tools, time, patience, and plenty of swear words it is a job that gets done.
When the drugs begin to take hold.
Little Rex wanted to show off his new smile after his dental cleaning! This friendly guy is now all ready to go to his forever home, but he still does not have one. Rex is a playful, cuddly senior that does well with other dogs, cats, and kids.

If you ask me, I think the Chicago Cubs have a new catcher.
Have you ever seen a microchip for pets? They are TINY!
.
They work for the whole life of your pet and make it *20 times* more likely that you will get your dog or cat back if they go missing.
.
We're gearing up for Check the Chip day next month and making sure all our pets are protected. Do your pets have microchips?

Good news, everyone! We just found our first tick of the season!
This is a cuterebra, or bot fly larva. For those that don't know, the larva crawls up onto the host, burrows its way in, and feeds off of the host. You can usually recognize it by the small, inflammed pore in the skin from which it breathes. If you are lucky, you might even see it moving.
So who needs to worry about this? Mostly those with pets that tend to go outside and sit in one spot for too long. As a result, cats are those typically affected because they will be still for a long time as they hunt. The adult fly will lay its eggs near the openings to rabbit holes, for example, which are perfect spots as cats usually will be in the area.
