Vaccine Requirements at Camp Grace
🐶 At Camp Grace, the health and safety of every pup is our top priority. That’s why we require all dogs joining us for boarding, day stays, or PlayStay to be current on three important vaccines: DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella. These vaccines don’t just protect your own dog—they protect every furry camper who comes through our doors. ❤️
🐾 DHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
The DHLPP vaccine is a combination shot that guards against multiple highly contagious and often life-threatening diseases.
• Distemper attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems.
• Hepatitis (Adenovirus) can cause severe liver damage.
• Leptospirosis is spread through water or soil and can also affect humans.
• Parvovirus is extremely contagious and often deadly in unvaccinated dogs.
• Parainfluenza contributes to respiratory illness.
This vaccine is typically given in a puppy series and then boosted every 1 to 3 years, depending on veterinary guidance. We require it because these illnesses spread easily in group settings and prevention is the only protection.
🐾 Rabies
Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects both animals and people, and it has been nearly eradicated in the U.S. thanks to widespread vaccination. Because rabies is zoonotic (can spread to humans), vaccination is required by law in Oklahoma and across the country. Dogs receive their first rabies shot as puppies, followed by boosters that are either 1-year or 3-year, depending on your veterinarian’s schedule. Keeping rabies vaccines current protects your dog, your family, our staff, and our entire community.
🐾 Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Bordetella is one of the leading causes of kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads quickly anywhere dogs gather—like boarding, daycare, grooming, and dog parks. Symptoms often include a hacking cough and runny nose, but the illness can be more serious in young puppies or older dogs. The vaccine is available in oral, nasal, and injectable forms and is typically given every 6 months to 1 year. At Camp Grace, we require Bordetella to reduce the risk of coughs spreading among our guests, ensuring a healthier, happier environment for every camper.
