**🐾 Dogs and Cold Weather: How to Keep Your Pup Warm and Safe ❄️**

As winter hits, it’s important to make sure your dog stays safe and comfy in the cold. Just like us, dogs can feel the chill, and we need to look out for them. Here are some simple tips to help protect your furry friend:

1. **Know Your Dog’s Breed**
- Some dogs handle the cold better than others.
- **Cold-Weather Dogs**: Breeds like Huskies, Malamutes, and Saint Bernards have thick coats that help them stay warm.
- **Cold-Sensitive Dogs**: Smaller dogs or those with short fur, like Chihuahuas or Greyhounds, might need extra warmth.

2. **Limit Time Outside**
- Even if your dog loves playing in the snow, it’s best not to leave them outside for too long when it's freezing.
- If it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for them.

3. **Protect Their Paws**
- Snow, ice, and salt can hurt your dog’s paws.
- **Boots**: Try dog booties to protect their paws from the cold ground and rough salt.
- **Paw Balm**: You can also use a special balm to protect their paws from cracking and frostbite.

4. **Provide Warm Shelter**
- If your dog spends time outside, make sure they have a dry, warm place to rest.
- For indoor dogs, make sure they have soft bedding and a cozy spot to relax in.

5. **Feed Them More (If Needed)**
- Cold weather can make some dogs burn extra energy to stay warm. Talk to your vet to see if your dog needs more food during the winter months.

6. **Keep Them Dry**
- Wet fur makes dogs colder. After walks or outdoor play, make sure to dry your dog off, especially their paws and belly.

7. **Watch for Cold-Weather Problems**
- **Hypothermia**: If your dog is shivering, acting tired, or not interested in playing, they might be too cold.
- **Frostbite**: If you see pale or blue skin on their paws, tail, or ears, they might have frostbite. Get them to a warm place and call your vet.

8. **Keep Water Available**
- Dogs still need to drink water in winter. Make sure their water bowl doesn’t freeze and is always full.

9. **Winter Clothing**
- Some dogs might need a sweater or coat in cold weather, especially if they have thin fur or are small. Make sure the clothing fits well and covers their neck and belly.

Final Tip: Always pay attention to your dog’s behavior. If they seem uncomfortable, it’s time to bring them inside and warm them up!

Stay cozy this winter, and keep your dog safe and happy! 🌨️🐶💖

📢 Educational Post: Understanding Dog Matting and How to Prevent It! 🐶✂️

⭐️ Keeping your dogs hair long and fluffy can seem like a full time job! And matting can happen before you realize!

🐾 Let’s talk about this common issue many pet parents face—matting. Matting isn’t just a cosmetic problem; it can affect your furry friend’s health and comfort. Here’s what you need to know!

What is Matting?

Matting occurs when your dog’s fur becomes tangled and knotted. It can happen to any dog, but it’s more common in breeds with long, curly, or fine hair. Common areas for mats include behind the ears, under the legs, and around the tail.

Why is Matting a Problem?

• Discomfort & Pain: Mats can pull on your dog’s skin, causing discomfort or even pain.
• Skin Issues: Mats can trap moisture and dirt, leading to skin irritations, infections, or sores.
• Restricted Movement: Severe matting can limit your dog’s movement and cause joint pain.

The Only Cure for Severe Matting: Shaving

When mats become too tight and close to the skin, the only safe and effective way to remove them is by shaving. While it might seem drastic, shaving is often the best option to relieve your dog’s discomfort and prevent further health issues. Attempting to brush out severe mats can be painful and cause more harm than good.

Give us a call if you think your dog may have matting! We are here to help!

No judgement only fresh starts! 💕

Dematting Fee (25$) - This is applied when a dog is severely matted and needs to be preshaved before a bath. We do this because we cannot cut wet hair.  Matted hair can take hours (sometimes days) to dry. We preshave to get the bulk off then bathe, then we are able to do the groom. When we do this ...
