HOPE IS READY FOR ADOPTION!
Hope is a kind, older girl who is looking for a final home to be loved and retire. Originally coming to NEAHS as a severe neglect case in 2024, Hope made a full recovery and has settled into a routine here, but we would sure love to find her a quiet place to spend the rest of her days. Estimated to be close to 27-years-old she moves around really well. She does have an enlarged front right knee but you wouldn't know it until she needs farrier work, then it is a little stiff but she shows no signs of any pain with it. Hope does love to eat and gets a soft diet twice a day but her teeth are good enough that she can eat hay and graze with the best of them. This kind senior loves to spend time with people and deserves the chance to find a family. She is polite on the ground, sound, barefoot, and just about as gentle as they come. If you can provide a loving home to Hope, please email us at [email protected]

From last night (1/19/25) in rural Jonesboro

There is a black dog that was just hit by a vehicle about 6:30pm on 751 also known as lost Creek Road. Across from about 4 or 5 houses. Closer to where 751 and KAIT 8 Road intersect. No collar, not sure of gender but unfortunately the dog is decreased.

It's cold out there and possums may be looking for a place to shelter from the cold like your shed or porch. They won't harm you but you may see more of them than you normally do because their hands, feet, and tails are bare and exposed to the elements.

While possums can be a controversial animal they do reduce the snake, mice and rat population by eating them. Here are a few other possum facts :

🐾 Opossums hunt, kill, and eat mice, rats, and snakes (including poisonous ones).

🐾 Opossums are scavengers and clean up dead animal carcasses.

🐾 Opossums have a natural resistance to rabies and botulism, so they aren't likely to spread these diseases.

🐾 Opossums are immune to the toxins in bee and scorpion stings.

🐾Opossums don't dig deep holes, but they will occupy burrows of other animals.

About NEAHS

Established in 1971, the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of all animals.

This dedication means the NEAHS is involved in a wide variety of activities and projects to serve the needs of pets and the people who care for them. These services include the care and shelter of homeless or distressed animals, low cost spay/neuter services, lost and found services, pet adoption, humane education and general community outreach services. We are also involved in a number of smaller projects and events, all designed to make the community a better place for pets and people to live together.

The NEAHS is supported entirely by donations, fundraising events, membership dues and adoption fees. We receive no tax money or United Way funds. Our modest budget is further enhanced by a very dedicated volunteer base which greatly increases our ability to serve our community.

Dog adoptions are $160, puppies are $200, kittens are $75 & cats are $50. Application is located here: https://neahs.org/online-adoption-application/ & may be submitted online. You may also fill one out in person at the shelter. Both dogs and cats receive all their vaccines here at the shelter, are dewormed a minimum of 5 times, dogs are heartworm tested if over 6 months and are on preventative. All pets are spayed and neutered before leaving the shelter and are microchipped!
