TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN (TNR) WORKS
Trap-neuter-return (TNR) is a program through which free-roaming cats are trapped, sterilized (males are castrated and females undergo ovo-hysterectomies,) and returned to the outdoor locations where they were found. If those locations are deemed unsafe or otherwise inappropriate, the cats may be relocated (barn/farmyard homes are often considered ideal.) Kittens young enough to be socialized and friendly adult cats may be placed in foster care for eventual adoption into homes as companion animals rather than returned to the outdoors.
TNR is the most widely implemented method of managing cat populations. The main goal of a TNR program is the reduction of the feral cat population, increased cat colony health, increased feral cat quality of life, and improved human-cat interactions in communities where we live and work.
Cats sterilized and vaccinated through the TNR process receive an "eartip." These cats are then easily identifiable for trappers and colony caretakers.

Why Do My Dog's Paws Smell Like Fritos?

Have you ever noticed that your dog's paws smell like Fritos or corn chips? The unique scent is a result of natural bacteria and yeast that live on your dog's skin, particularly around their paws. 🐾 Natural Bacteria: Dogs, like humans, have a variety of bacteria living on their skin. The most common culprits for the "Frito" smell are Pseudomonas and Proteus bacteria. These bacteria are naturally present on your dog's paws and produce a slightly ye**ty odor that can resemble corn chips.

🐾 Warm and Moist Environment: Dogs' paws often get warm and moist, especially after exercise or being outside. This environment is perfect for bacteria and yeast to thrive, amplifying the corn chip-like scent.

🐾 Sweat Glands: Dogs have sweat glands in their paws, which, unlike human sweat glands, don't produce the same kind of odor. Instead, the sweat can mix with the natural bacteria and yeast, enhancing the smell that many describe as similar to Fritos.

🐾 Regular Grooming: While the smell is usually harmless, it's essential to maintain regular grooming and hygiene for your dog's paws. This includes wiping them down after walks, trimming the fur around their pads, and checking for any signs of infection that could cause an unpleasant or more intense odor.

🐾 When to Worry: A mild corn chip smell is normal, but if you notice a strong, pungent odor, or if your dog is licking or chewing their paws excessively, it could be a sign of a yeast infection or other issue that may require a visit to the vet.
