Dogs and Heat Stroke
Sharing because we a had a very close call with my Heeler last night. Had I not known the signs and how to cool her down immediately I may have lost her.
She's 8 years old and loves to play rough with Titan and herd him. Around 6:30pm, after 20 minutes of intense play, she pulled up from chasing him and layed down. She attempted to stand back up twice and collapsed.
I picked her up and rushed her in to the cool basement and layed her on the tile. We put a fan on her and a damp cool paper towel on her back and belly. It probably took an hour for her breathing to truly go back to normal.
She wouldn't drink so we watered down chicken broth to around 20oz worth.
that my dog is okay and back to normal today.

Tonight we spent some time with Miska the Malamute on her leash manners and evaluating her for dog reactivity.
She recieved a GOLD STAR and A+ on both.

This week we had our last lesson with Gaia. She was eager to please and quickly bought in to our guidance on Leash Manners, Counter Surfing, Dog Reactivity.

The first step of our civilian Personal Protection line started today with the acquisition of our Rottweiler baby Karma. This little girl has IPO titles and powerful puppies in her future.

Mike Winkler spent time with one of our Protection clients this evening. Diesel, an eleven month old German Shepherd has the drive and temperament to be a special dog in the Protection world.
We'll be assisting this client in the process of attaing Protection Titles for his amazing dog.

Leash work with Miska today. Yes, we can even get your Malamutes to stop pulling.

While we don't recommend Retractable leads, in this scenario we had a Malamute without a fenced in yard. So, we made an exception on the retractable and showed the owner how use the prong collar for walking on a short lead and then switch to the flat collar and long lead for "roaming" or "free" time.

Tonight we had the chance to stop in and do a tuneup on obedience with sweet Zoe. She also met Titan for some socialization work.

Congratulations to Meadow, SHE GRADUATED!!!!! Tonight was our fifth and final lesson with her.
When I first met Meadow she was nervous with strangers, barking and lunging at other dogs, and pulling on her leash.
From day one we worked on leash manners, rewarded desired behavior and corrected unwanted behavior, and introduced her to our non-reactive gentle giant Titan.
We slowly increased stimulus that caused her to react and would routinely have her walk next to Titan and experience distractions.
Tonight, at our final lesson she sat with Titan for 1.5 hours at an outdoor restaurant with lots of noise, people, and other dogs. She calmly layed next to Titan and observed everything going on with no issues.
Meadow has come a long long way in a very short time.

About Us

I am a professional Dog Trainer with a very simple philosophy. I believe that training dogs should be fun, innovative, and stress-free. All dogs (and occasional cats) involved in the process experience the benefits, including the humans involved! Put your best paw forward and let’s get started today. My experience as a trainer began in a "No Kill Shelter" (Unleashed Pet Rescue under trainer Rob Masters) that took in every imaginable breed and temperament of dog. As trainers we worked tirelessly to address behavioral issues with the dogs in the shelter to ensure the individuals adopting them weren't going to bring them back for difficult behaviors. This exposure to a wide variety dog breeds with various behavioral challenges provided me with invaluable experience that I would later take in to the private sector.

Several years later, I had the privilege to work and study under master trainer David Harris, owner of the world renowned company Protection Dog Sales (PDS). At PDS I was exposed to high end pure bred working dogs for the first time and during that time I raised and trained numerous German Shepherds for PDS under the tutelage of David Harris.
