Well I finally caved and made the jump to Garmin. Found a killer deal on an Alpha 300 and two TT-25 Collars that was all brand new for $1200. The range on this setup is plenty good. Went to 9 miles and turned around to come back home. I'm sure it could have gone farther. These two damn dogs are expensive 🤣

With Beau still recovering, I was able to get Jutta out for some more training this weekend. She ran this 200 yard hooves in shoes track beautifully. It had about .5oz of blood which is a lot for this distance but I'm just building her confidence right now so not a concern. It was aged 2 hours. Her drive is super high and I can tell she is going to be a blast to work behind. Starting this weekend we will begin aging tracks up to 18 hours and then start adding distance in 200 yard increments getting up to 800 yards. I'm hoping to have her completing 18hr old, 800 yard tracks by the end of September. She won't be fully ready for season but we will definitely work her in on some known down deer tracks to see how she performs as well as continuing to build that confidence. Ran this track off lead because I'm still waiting on a harness to fit her.

I ask that everyone send some well wishes Beaus way.

We found two puncture wounds on Beau friday night and attempted at home care for them on Saturday morning. But this afternoon they didn't seem to be getting better and began to look infected. I took him to K-State to get looked at and there was some minor infection setting in. They cleaned up the wounds and gave him some antibiotics via IV and inserted a suture and two small stitches. He's coming off of the sedation and not a fan of the cone of shame. He will heal up just fine and will be relaxing for the next two weeks.

We aren't sure how he got them so that's the odd part. Please keep Beau in your thoughts.

Well folks 1 month out from the start of the 2024 Kansas deer season and we couldn't be more excited.

This morning Beau ran a perfect 1/2 mile mock track. Track was with 2nd or 3rd time used hooves and about 1oz of blood. He was focused and methodical working every bit of it out. We are so stoked for our 3rd season and I really feel Beau has matured into something truly special. Shout out to Tommy Duke for laying the track.
Video in comments.

Season can't get here quick enough.

Walking through the woods laying mock tracks at 10pm 🤣. Not sure how many spiders I took to the face and how many bugs I ate but it was enough

Beau ran a beautiful mock track tonight. Aged 14 hours and 800 yards. Hooves with maybe 10 drops of blood along the 1st hundred yards. A few 90deg turns, creek crossing and lots of thick stuff. 87 degrees and 15-20mph winds we we ran it. He only needed one correction but I guess that's expected when you bump a doe at 10 yards 😂

This girl is doing amazing. Track 1 of the day.

Aged 2hours, hooves drags with a few drops of blood. 100yd to a 90deg turn then another 40 yards.

Folks we took part in a great PodCast along with Rueben Breaux of Kansas Outlaw Deer Recovery. Give it a listen on your next drive or at home. We had a great time and stay tuned as we have a tracking specific PodCast in the works real soon.

Big thanks to Nick Koroluck for having us on.

Beau ran this 820 yard track perfectly. 14 hours old, 3rd time used hooves and no blood.. All in the wide open exposed to the temps of mid 80s today and low humidity. Anytime he's doing his work he is a happy dog.

Well tonight didn't end on a good note. Unfortunately we got the call to track a thoroughbred horse that had been clipped by a semi. They had people out searching all last night and all day today. After getting on scene and assessing what we were dealing with we were able to determine direction of travel based on the very faint horseshoe markings in the asphalt. I put Beau on one of the prints and he went to work leading us to 2 pieces of leg bone fragment about 50 into the track. We continued to track and about 400 yards later we found what we feared the most. It was heartbreaking and not something I hope to ever have to find ever again. Our hearts go out to the family. I'm just glad we were able to provide some closure.

Well folks I present to you "Jutta" with her first successful track 🤣.

In all seriousness, training begins this weekend with a few liver and hoof drags.

Here's is part 2 of the mock track. I gotta figure this GoPro stuff out 🤣

07/12/2024

Well Beau has had 6months off and it's time to get back to training/work. Ran our first mock track since the end of season and beau hasn't lost a step. This was a fairly simple track that was 550yds, Hooves with approx 15 drops of diluted blood, 2x 90deg turns and a road crossing. Aged 12 hours through the heat of the day with very little humidity. It's time to up the difficulty for him so that he can be challenged and so that I can get even better at reading him.

We are super excited for this upcoming season.

GoPro split the video into two parts for some reason. Part 2 will be posted next.

Well folks Beau-Dacious Deer Tracking now has a team mate and tracking buddy.
I introduce to you all "Jutta". She is a Wire Haired Daschund also known as a Teckle. She is settling in great and is taking to her new environment very well. I want to thank Mrs. Vicki Woods at Pioneer Pudelpointers for being so awesome in her care and dedication to these pups. Also want to thank Brad Shoemaker for lining me up with this litter. We are looking forward to bonding and training in the weeks and months ahead.

Stay tuned in as I'll be posting all our training videos to our FB page.

Stay tuned in folks. Beau-Dacious is adding to the team.

Unfortunately we had to get rid of Mia the bloodhound that we rescued due to some aggression issues towards one of our older dogs. She was such a sweet girl to us and the kids and we do miss her doopy doop personality around the house.

Well folks its been a while since season has ended and finally have gotten some rest. I want to say thank you to all the great outfitters and hunters that reached out to us for assistance in tracking their deer. It was a great season and we can't wait to see what 2024 has in store.

We we're called to 116 tracks. Of those we received 26 Confirmations of life throughout the season (22%).
That left 90 tracks that had a possibility of recovery. We recovered 48 of those for a 53% recovery rate (44 bucks, 4 does). Unfortunately we had 4 Unsuccessful tracks and these are the ones that every tracker wishes they could get back. I know Both Beau and I are young in this journey but nonetheless we strive for perfection.

The remaining 40 tracks we believe these deer are alive and well and suffered non fatal shots based on the sign and other factors. We learned a ton this season and can't wait for next season.

-Our oldest track was 40hrs old
-Our longest track was 2.1miles

In only our 2nd season we have now recovered 80 deer!

Again, thank you to everyone who called us for assistance. It truly is our honor to serve everyone.

Today is a special day as Beau turned 2 years old today.
