Yesterday we were able to help a friend who had arrowed a buck and didn't like the sign at the hit sight or the sign on the arrow. Turns out the arrow either deflected or came off the string awkward for an unknown reason. Beau picked up on the hit site and about 2min and 200yds later we were standing over the buck. The shot was just forward of the shoulder in the base of the neck and the buck may not have been dead long. It had moved a few times as well.

Beau and I had an awesome and eventful weekend of tracks and good times.

Started off yesterday with a track that Beau aced and took it 1140 yards in just 16 minutes. The hunter could not believe it and we actually recovered another buck early in November that we found about 60 yards away from this one.

Then went to two other tracks that have already resulted in confirmations of life. On the 2nd one, Beau actually found the buck that the hunter now believes he hit in the chaos. Theres a whole other twist to this one but just not enough time to write it all.

After those two we drove another 90min and met up with some awesome guys from Wisconsin. They had a gut shot buck that they had bumped fearing that other public hunters would either bump or find it. After crossimg a large prairie it jumped a fence onto private leaving a long string of caul fat on the barbed wired. After electing to start there, Beau quickly got on it and took me 400 yards on a bloodless track to the expired buck after one short redirection. After celebration and the drag out these fellas offered to let me stay the night with them at hunt camp since it was 1am since I was 2hours from home. Needless to say my stomach still hurts from laughing so much and Beau was spoiled with lots of summer sausage 🤣.
I can't thank them enough. Thank y'all you so much Tom VandeYacht and Tyler Zeh.

While driving home this morning I got the call for another deer that was shot on some public land 20min from home so we made the pit stop. Just a couple minutes later after Beau tracked just 390 yards, we found the hunters doe and to our surprise it had been taken by another hunter. After putting Beau on the drag line he tracked it all the way to the parking area 420 yards away where we could see where it was loaded in a truck. This is a first for us but I know this type of thing happens pretty frequently in states that deal with smaller parcels of land.

The crazy and wild things that we get to see and experience is mind blowing.

Recovery #31 was an awesome 1150 yard track for a gut shot that was bumped twice and then grid searched by 4 people. Confident to say that they learned a lot and now know what a great tool a trained dog can be.

Jutta got to get on another track tonight thanks to Chris Sykes and Brad Forbus. She eventually worked her way to this doe but struggled in the middle of the 120 yard track. This girl is fast almost to fast. Going to have to work on slowing her down.

Very well said by one of the legends in the game. The rut is just rough.

Recovery #30 was for a young hunters first archery deer. After finding little blood and gut matter on the arrow they played it safe and decided to back out. Hunter felt the deer was perfectly broadside and with a right side entrance I felt we were looking at a liver/gut scenario. We gave the buck plenty of time and went in. As it turns out the buck was slightly quartering to and the shot placement was actually perfect. Taking out single lung, liver, and gut. Beau found this buck just 120yards away after a hotline restart. Congratulations to the young hunter.

Had to take a break from tracking and finally make time to hunt for myself. I take bow hunting very seriously and these last three seasons Beau and I have given so much of our time to others. Let's see if I can get it done this weekend.

Recovery #29 was a 175 yard track with very minimal blood. Beau took the line perfect but right at the end he got into a scent pool. I let him work out of it and then did a reset and from there he basically ran straight to the buck. It's been real tough the last two weeks but I can recall the previous two season this latter part of November for whatever reason just gets tough.

I'll say it again, if you don't put the arrow farther back on a decent or hard quartering away shot you likely won't have a positive outcome.
