Here is a short video of the tail end of our 100th recovery. Enjoy.
Recovery #4 was for a new bow hunter. He and his wife had tracked this doe about 75 yards before losing sign. After describing to me the shot and sending me pictures of the blood I advised them to back out and that it needed a bit of time. It was definitely a liver shot. Wanting to salvage the meat on this doe I elected to go in at the 3 hour mark. In this video you can see just how dang thick it is in Kansas this year. But Beau did awesome fighting through it all and getting us to this doe.
With Beau still recovering, I was able to get Jutta out for some more training this weekend. She ran this 200 yard hooves in shoes track beautifully. It had about .5oz of blood which is a lot for this distance but I'm just building her confidence right now so not a concern. It was aged 2 hours. Her drive is super high and I can tell she is going to be a blast to work behind. Starting this weekend we will begin aging tracks up to 18 hours and then start adding distance in 200 yard increments getting up to 800 yards. I'm hoping to have her completing 18hr old, 800 yard tracks by the end of September. She won't be fully ready for season but we will definitely work her in on some known down deer tracks to see how she performs as well as continuing to build that confidence. Ran this track off lead because I'm still waiting on a harness to fit her.
This girl is doing amazing. Track 1 of the day.
Aged 2hours, hooves drags with a few drops of blood. 100yd to a 90deg turn then another 40 yards.
Here's is part 2 of the mock track. I gotta figure this GoPro stuff out 🤣
Well Beau has had 6months off and it's time to get back to training/work. Ran our first mock track since the end of season and beau hasn't lost a step. This was a fairly simple track that was 550yds, Hooves with approx 15 drops of diluted blood, 2x 90deg turns and a road crossing. Aged 12 hours through the heat of the day with very little humidity. It's time to up the difficulty for him so that he can be challenged and so that I can get even better at reading him.
We are super excited for this upcoming season.
GoPro split the video into two parts for some reason. Part 2 will be posted next.
