A bit of background on this litter.

In about 2004 I began training, trialing and breeding dogs with Brian Abingdon. As the years progressed our most consistent cross was Tip x Cookie. Many will remember the three littermates Brian (Reika), my daughter (Mollie) and myself (Kit) trained and trialed for years to come.

Early on we collected Semen from Tip, and about 2 years ago a client purchased some semen and artificially insemenated their female. From that litter Brian retained one male and one female of which I currently own the male~~Chip.

Chip is a “double bred” Tip meaning he has Tip in both his dad’s bloodline and his moms.

Through the years that followed I have line bred for the Tip x Cookie bloodlines. Cookie’s breeding went back to Broken Circle Sue.

The dogs I currently own all go back to the original Abingdon bloodlines of Tip and Cookie. The Dam of this litter is ChaCha ~~ her dam was Coco (Tip x Cookie).

I have been waiting for this cross for quite some time now. They were whelped 4/12/24 and I have taken my time to make the decision of which one to keep.

I currently have one female and two males available.

If interested please PM me so I can answer your questions.

Battle Mountain Complex expands to include the Monkey Creek Fire, total acreage increases to 30,272

UKIAH, Ore. – This morning, ODF Incident Management Team 3 added the 18,886-acre Monkey Creek Fire to the Battle Mountain Complex, which also includes the 3,887-acre North Fork Owens Fire and the 7,499-acre Snake Fire, bringing the total estimated acreage to 30,272.

“Each fire is in a different stage of operations,” said Operations Section Chief Eric Perkins. “We have a lot of crews beginning mop-up along large portions of the North Fork Owens Fire, and we’re constructing a lot of active fireline on the Snake Fire. We’re doing our best in very steep terrain and critical weather. Firefighter and community safety is our top priority.”

While firefighters are engaged on the Monkey Creek Fire, much of today will be focused on scouting and determining resource needs.

Overnight, crews focused most of their efforts on the Snake Fire protecting homes along the North Fork John Day River. They had little growth on the northwest side of the Snake Fire and focused dozer lines on the head of the fire along the south.

Overnight, firefighters were able to hold the North Fork Owens Fire within its current perimeter. Crews patrolled the lines and hand crews began cold trailing portions of the fire. Firefighters will continue mop-up operations. Residents can expect to see smoke from the interior.

Today (Sunday), crews will continue to focus on constructing and improving as much dozer and handline where they can on all three fires. Firefighters continue to face challenges of limited resources, difficult terrain and Red Flag Warnings with a chance of lightning in the evening.

Closures: A road closure remains in effect for Highway 395, between mile posts 50 through 90, beginning 35 miles South of Pilot Rock.
Evacuations: Level 1 (Be Ready) , Level 2 (Be Set) and Level 3 (Go Now) evacuations are in effect. For updated evacuation information, visit the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office page, www.facebook.com/UmatillaCountySheriff, or sign up for the Umatilla County Emergency Alert System at https://member.everbridge.net/index/2590041373147145.

The following has been shared by our dear friend Roy Sage~~ I was there the day this occurred and Brian and I laughed for years over this ~~ and so did many others as Brian retold this story multiple times 🤗🐶🤗🐶🤗

Thanks for the memory Roy ❤️❤️

I first met Brian at a Dog Trial. He was an easy person to become friends with.
He was one who believed in giving back some of his knowledge and good fortune in his life to others, mainly to boost you folks along in their lives whether it be team roping or training and trialing dogs.

What more can you offer in life then what you know best
Brian can be described best by a true story:

Brian enters the trial arena for the very first time ever on geese. He walks over to the take-out pen and
peers over the gate.
Looking back at him are 5 big African geese. He figures this can’t be too bad, so he opens the gate and sends his dog in.

Five geese just about fill the eight – By – Eight holding pen. So not much room or place for the dog to go, but “she walks in” and is immediately grabbed by the back of the neck by a goose which goes to flogging the dog.

Brian then enters the pen to rescue his dog. After a bit of a set -to he gets that goose off the dog, but the goose is having none of that and turns on Brian.

That !?:;! Grabs Brian by the belt buckle and goes to flogging him.

Well, he eventually gets the goose off and his arms in surrender, calls his dog, slams the take-out pen gate and leaves the arena.
Next thing you know, Brian is leaving the barn.

“Hey Brian, where ya goin”?
He says, “Goin to Walmart.”
“What ya going to Walmart for? “
“I’m getting an Athletic cup for tomorrow.”

I do not ever remember Brian having a bad thing to say about a trial, no matter how good or bad things went.

The Cherokee people had a saying about folks like Brian.
When interpreted to English it said:
“He was a true human being.”
Brian will be missed by All.

Submitted by Marybeth Brown Chaconas ~~ Thank you ❤️❤️

Juno came to us last October. We got him for my daughter, Kinny, who is a park ranger at Yosemite. To my knowledge, he was one of the last Abington Border Collie puppies to go to a home. He turns 1 on July 3rd and is a testimony to Brian’s skill at breeding his dogs. Juno is a delight and shows stock dog instincts at every turn.

I got a Google reminder about 30 minutes ago that Brian Abingdon ‘s birthday is tomorrow ~~ not a very good evening 😢😢😢

Shortly after that I got the following message from Ruby Shea~~ It certainly made my heart smile.

Hi,
I'd like this shared on Brian's FB pg if that’s ok.

I love that people are sharing their Brian experiences here and keeping his memory alive.

I could listen to Brian's voice and stories for hours. He was a bit captivating you might say.
He was kind hearted and enjoyed helping others, especially kids.

I gave this piece of metal art to Brian on one of his birthdays (June 11, Happy Birthday Brian). It made me think of him living the Cowboy way of life. He rarely missed an opportunity to rope or work dogs. His heart was always in it.

Before he retired, he worked hard at work and then on his ranch. People would ask how did he do it all and he'd say not very well.

I was very sad to learn the day
this Cowboy Rode Away like George Straits song. I hope he's in heaven riding his grey horse and playing with dogs as he called it. Just Living The Dream! 🥰

Thanks Ruby ❤️❤️❤️

Dreams are true while they last, and do we not live in our dreams? Brian did! I met him thru my friends whom also came out for herding lessons. I loved every moment, cue, action he and the dogs did. I got it thru his passion for it. We loved and lived it while out there.
He knew it when he saw it, he got it. Any of us that read animals knows our kind. He was a one of a kind!
If there’s one thing I learned, is that no one is here forever. You have to live for the moment, each and every day, the here the now.
He lived his dream, go live yours!
RIP Brian

Thanks for sharing Brenda ❤️

What can you say about a guy that always has a smile on his face and a spark in his eyes. He always called you darling and made you feel important. He was so sick with Covid I made him a hamburger veggie soup he really liked it, he brought me flowers to the store. He will be missed.

Thanks Linda 🥰🥰

I first got to know Brian in 1996 when we worked together on Eugene Fire Station #6. I was running the electrical crew and he the plumbing. We kinda hit it off and became friends, visiting about cattle, horses and dogs in the job shack on breaks. I like to think it had nothing to do with the fact that I showed up with donuts every Friday, but it may have tilted the scales a little in my favor 😉. Once the rough plumbing was complete he was sent to a different jobsite, but not before he'd infected me with the cowdog bug and sold me on the Border Collie breed. When I got my first dog that same year I tried to hire him to train it but he just said "It ain't rocket science. You can do it yourself. I'll show you how." And he did just that. Over 25 years and probably a hundred dogs & puppies later I still use what he taught me every day. And now that it's too late, I can't stop thinking of how much gratitude I owe to that great man.
I occasionally helped him with electrical work over the years and any time I had a plumbing question he had an answer. It was funny, we'd finish working dogs at his place and before I'd leave I'd say, oh I have a plumbing question. He'd say to wait a second. Then he'd turn his baseball cap around backwards and say "OK now I'm ready" 😆.
I'm sure going to miss that Abingdon wit, not to mention his wisdom and generosity.
Brian, I hope we meet again, bye and bye, on that beautiful range in the sky.

Thanks Tom 🥰🥰

Thanks for the chuckle Chris Caldwell 🤗🤗🤗

“So, the first time I met Brian was at his place, back in 2003. Kelly Orr took the gang down as Brian was gonna take over doing lessons with all of us because Kelly was moving to ID. My first impression of Brian was he was pretty hard and spoke his mind. So if I remember he had some very dog broke goats ( Angora) and my Ruby was just a baby, maybe 12-14 weeks old. We put her in the goat pen with his red female and I can’t remember her name but she was bad ass. Brian said she wouldn’t let that pup get hurt. Well as it turned out, Ruby was scared sh*tless of those goats. No matter what we did, she did not show any interest whatsoever. Brian was very up front with me that this pup wasn’t worth anything and that she was basically a Zero. I felt horrible and really disappointed lol. Well fast forward about a year to year and a half and we were all down at the Fry’s. Ruby put on an absolute Clinic on cattle and sheep❤️ Brian comes up to me and says; Chris that’s one hell of a dog, she’s awesome! I said ; Brian, remember last year you said she was worthless? He paused and thought a minute then said, Chris, I was totally wrong and I am wrong every once in a while. We both laughed and we were good friends. He was such a great guy!”

Thanks Chris ~~it was always fun watching Ruby back then. I think his “go to” red female back then was Thong~~ she taught me A LOT 🐶🐶 — or it could have been Nan 🤔🤔

Brian and i met when we were 5 and 6 years old. We were friends over 60 years. As children we were not allowed to cross the street to visit. We would stand across the street and wave at each other. We were friends for 60 plus years. We fished together became eagle scouts together and grew up together. I finally was able to visit him once in Oregon the place he loved so dearly. A true friend and great man.
