Circe looking for forever home

Circe looking for forever home Sweet Circe (sur-cee) is looking for an active forever home. She's great with all dogs.

She's now in a foster home, and is learning her obedience & impulse control so she can be the best pet ever.

Impulse control style fetch(?)
She saw the flirt pole so runs over there for it😔😂. Did a little tug with it to build excitement over here trying to make her forget about it - I usually like to get her into it before raising the arousal with tug (cuz it makes it harder for her to drop), had to get her to attention tho. I forgot the hot dog so when I used food I gave her like 6 pieces (1 @ time, so it prolongs how long she's away from toy).

Tried a recall from the frisbee - yeah right. I was going to go get her & bring back, but she ended up coming once I got closer. Closing space & recalling can help.
Once she decides to come, you can't stay in "punishment mode", you have to be focused on the last behavior shown - I didn't reward but I did praise.
Then she ran back when I was starting recall games - you see toys are higher value then food to her! A squeaky will probably always get her back. By time I got leash to correct for the ignore, she started to come back, so again ...
I got smart & decided to put them up, she tried to run over there after told to get on bed, I caught get before going past so just pressure. Did good sit-stay, the reward made her break, on I don't like that with a stay (for everything else no biggie), so I reset her, then we got into the games.

Circe is silly.
Trying to keep the arousal down inside.
She likes to take her frustration (of not being able to act crazy) out on the bed.
She also likes to steal what others have, so I keep redirecting away, so she gets frustrated & wants to get mouthy.

Cool off walk & 2nd round play

Recall games. 🤣 She's working on handstands when she puts on the breaks🤣🤣

Impulse control style fetch. She's getting good at giving me eye contact

Now that we've settled the "I gotta get the heel outta here" mentality some, I've been able to use more food reward.
To get the calm at crate door, I first used the walkway 2 steps method (p-).
Then I added the close the door method (p-).
Then I was able to use food reward after each motion, as she stayed calm.
Now I've started dropping food toward back of crate to try to prevent/minimize the bolting out.
Her circling once out is less too (because I started leashing her in crate, now I can do it out of crate), she's still a little amped so I just stand there until she seems a little more chill, then we go to the door.
Here I had to initially use leash pressure (r-) to get her to settle a little, here I also used the close the door method, once they get the idea I start using food to build calm at the door.

Thanks to a reschedule we get an extra free time today.
Control the energy early. At night she's been getting wound up right about when we hit 3 hours.
That's kind of where she's stops listening & I have to separate for a min.
She came out hot, but settled ok, Crew & Raider are the obnoxious ones today

Heel drills & work

Took a walk to different environment. I think I narrated ok, probably said some stupud stuff too, but I'm tired of doing this today.

(yesterday)
Finishing of early outing - structure walk.
Impulse control: Ending walk with play, but she can't pull to get over there, I keep going till she stops & ideally she's looks (like she did here), then I release.
She's likes the new "frisbee". It flies funny

(yesterday)
Heel drills. This was the "calm down" exercise after playing recall games. I liked to alternate high arousal session & low arousal. Kinda getting that cc pattern into their brain.
Not real worried about her spinnig around to sit, I think the wild dog was down the way, at least she did it. I think on the early down she was looking at people in the apartments, so I tried the single clap to get her attention, needed a lower hand motion because of the distraction.

Impulse control: Looking for eye contact for "ok" & tug. I've been pulling the toy back with her because she jumps back up so fast (usually before I can get foot on leash), problem is that makes the toy more exciting. Tried going back to hot dog reward for "drop it", this time anyway.
Man, the circling😂. I keep thinking we got it in check, I guess it's mostly less tho.
Towards end, you can tell she's getting close to be overstimulated - she nips faster at the food in hand, takes longer to release. This is where you're r- (using pressure) helps bring her energy down.
Cue, she blows it off, "no, drop", she still bites at it, apply pressure, she releases, pressure goes away.

Play with Crew.
Trying to get a look before be staying play. So hard cuz everything she does is a bolt!
Calm at threshold, release, zoom!😁 She's getting there tho.
I put her on the shorter longline & just let her go. Holding the longer one got a get a couple rope burns, & as be long as he's there she's not running off anywhere.
Then Crew wouldn't knock it off if the free walk, so had to leash his butt up.

Circe's early out we had a bunny "chase"😁.

Her work outing were started with stagnant recall, had to give a couple boop-boop disruptors, but that's to be expected - new routine, she hasn't had the time to build engagement naturally, but we're trying to get to imitating real life at some point right? Recall is the thing I never allow an ignore.
I forgot in the first couple to be doing the release pat.
Building duration with leash grab & consecutive feed - one after the other, & varying the amount.

Heel drills. Initial corrections a little more than the boop-boops she's been needing lately, I'm guessing cuz we didn't do any energy draining exercises first, the encouraging part tho, is it didn't take many before we could get to food work.

Recall games.

Play time w/ crew
At one point she was clamping on a little too long - not terrible, I kinda think she was trying to keep up with them legs😁.
And once I think I was wanting crew to mellow.
Sometimes I just throw in a random stoppage to make sure they know I'm still there, usually when they look like picking up intensity (even if it's not terrible).

03/30/2022

The girl is a handful around others😁.
She is proof of why early structure is so important.

Afternoon free time she been doing real good, (1st 2) this is after 20-30 min walk/exercise before dinner.

The last 2 evenings, after dinner a nap & a 30+min walk/play, she's been wild!
I tightened her collar to try to keep it up high to help with walking, but since I can't keep inside lead on her it made the collar restraint more conflicting - I had to have perfect aim to get the martingale action part, if I got the other part it was a little tight so makes her fight it more & when that happens you have to hold in longer & that sucks.
So, if after 3 times getting her on the bed she amps right back up I put her behind the ex- pen till she cools off, I have her get on the bed sit or down, calmly release her in ... and of course she's at 90mph😁.
I was trying the massaging deal, & she stated getting mouthy, I kept hand by mouth cuz I want her to disengage from it, she started not responding to the eh-eh so I did the "hey!".

Correcting is just like rewarding, you do it till you don't need it - the more consistent earlier in the behavior you can be, the better will start cutting off at that point.

Update with the counter surfing temptation ...
She does good.
The key is her not being able to get something when not supervised!
If she can get her paws on but not get anything, that's minimally reinforcing.
But if she gets something then the behavior is rewarded - big reinforcement.
If she gets something & we chase her then tug with her to get it away - that's major reward & reinforcement!
The key would be to pursue but not chase, hold item say drop it (I've got to focus more on that in training time!), if she doesn't use the upward collar pressure until she complies.

Impulse control play, drop - I remembered my hot dog! But initially forgot to load my pocket🤪. That circling, man🤣.

Our new dance at the crate door. Trying to get eye contact before exit, the grab & feed trying to reduce the crazy run around, even tho she's been coming out calm, she picks up the pace so I want to prevent that practice. It's also good CC for the collar grab.

Using the bed to get her to chill while I set up.

Pre dinner free time yesterday, she was mostly super good, I think Crew was more obnoxious
